New shawl and blanket and update covid revalidation

Vier jaar geleden had ik een paar granny squares gehaakt met dit garen maar ze waren veel te los gehaakt. Twee weken terug heb ik alles uitgehaald en ben ik opnieuw begonnen.

Four years ago I had crocheted a few granny squares with this yarn but they were crocheted way too loosely. Two weeks ago I ripped everything out and started again.

Het garen dat ik gebruik is 3 cento van Lana Grossa in de kleuren 001, 003, 006 en 007.

Het patroon dat ik volg is een tutorial van de perfectly squares van Kay Jones van de Bakery Bears. Het verschil met een gewone granny square is dat je na elke toer je werk omkeert, zodat je granny square ook echt vierkant zijn.

The pattern I'm following is a tutorial of the perfectly squares by Kay Jones from the Bakery Bears. The difference with a regular granny square is that you turn your work after every round, so that your granny squares are really square.

De eerste 6 rijen zijn af (48 grannies). Van alle vier de kleuren is de bol nu bijna opgehaakt. Gelukkig heb ik 2 bollen per kleur. Voor de rand moet ik daarna iets anders verzinnen, want het blijkt dat dit garen nergens meer te krijgen is.

The first 6 rows are finished (48 grannies). The balls of all four colors are now almost finished. Luckily I have 2 balls per color. I have to come up with something else for the border, because it turns out that this yarn is nowhere to be found anymore.

Naast de Dust of Snow sjaal, waar inmiddels kleur 3 in zit, ben ik afgelopen zaterdag ook begonnen met de Lacy Business sjaal van Ambah O'Brien. Voor deze mooie lace sjaal gebruik ik 2 kleuren van Crealien Design. Als eerste de kleur Joy.

In addition to the Dust of Snow scarf, which now contains color 3, I also started the Lacy Business scarf from Ambah O'Brien last Saturday. For this beautiful lace scarf I use 2 colors from Crealien Design. First the color Joy.

Deze combineer ik met de Advent 2021 kleur, die ik bij haar advent kalender gekocht had. Ik was een paar sokken begonnen met deze streng, maar hij combineerde zo mooi met bovenstaande kleur dat ik de sok uitgetrokken heb.

I combine this with the Advent 2021 color, which I bought with her advent calendar. I had started a pair of socks with this skein, but it combined so beautifully with the above color that I ripped the sock out.

Het wordt een driehoeksjaal en de eerste naalden zijn al gebreid.

Afgelopen zaterdag kwamen ook nog een paar strengen van The Woolly Chicken uit Duitsland. In het echt zo mooi zachte kleuren. Ze had er ook een mooie stekenmarkeerder bijgedaan.

Last Saturday a few skeins of The Woolly Chicken also arrived from Germany. Really nice soft colors. She also added a nice stitch marker.

De 2e streng van links, Penny Peaches, ligt inmiddels klaar. Deze ga ik gebruiken voor de Lattice Topped socks van Kay Jones.

The 2nd skein from the left, Penny Peaches, is now ready. I'm going to use these for Kay Jones' Lattice Topped socks.

Voor de rest gaat hier alles zijn gangetje. De fysio komt nog steeds 3x per week aan huis. Het lijkt wel of de vooruitgang wat lopen betreft even stil staat. 's Morgens en in het begin van de middag gaat het lopen "redelijk", maar hoe later het op de dag wordt, hoe slechter het lopen gaat. Schijnbaar heeft het met de moeheid van het lichaam te maken.
De connectie tussen de hersenen en de gevoelszenuwen in de benen werken dan bijzonder slecht. Normaal verzet je je benen zonder na te denken, maar als ik me bv. wil omdraaien om te gaan lopen en ik denk niet bewust daarbij aan mijn benen, dan blijven mijn benen gewoon op de plaats staan. Dit is zo'n rare gewaarwording.
Ik moet echt bij elke stap mij focussen op mijn benen. Fietsen zit er nog steeds niet in, maar ik ga wel af en toe met Michiel mee boodschappen doen. Ik kan dan achter de winkelwagen lopen en me daaraan vasthouden. Een mens moet toch wat 😁.

Everything else runs smoothly here. The physio still comes at home 3 times a week. It seems that progress in walking has come to a standstill for a while. In the morning and early afternoon walking is "reasonable", but the later in the day it gets, the worse walking gets. Apparently it has to do with the fatigue of the body.
The connection between the brain and the sensory nerves in the legs then works particularly poorly. Normally you move your legs without thinking, but if I want to turn around to walk and I don't consciously think about my legs, my legs just stay in place. This is such an odd sensation.
I really have to focus on my legs with every step. Cycling is still not an option, but I will occasionally go shopping with Michiel. I can then walk behind the shopping cart and hold on to it. A person has to do something to get out of the house 😁

First week of January

De eerste week van januari is omgevlogen. In deze week begon ik met het breien van de Dust of Snow sjaal, een patroon van Curious Handmade (Helen Stewart). Ik gebruik de 2021 advent kalender strengetjes van Crealien Design en kleur 3 ligt al klaar om opgedraaid te worden. Ik brei een paar naalden meer  tussen de ribbels zodat de sjaal iets langer wordt omdat in het patroon gebruik wordt gemaakt van een gewone draad samen met een mohair draad en die mohair draad gebruik ik niet.

The first week of January has flown by. In this week I started knitting the Dust of Snow shawl, a pattern from Curious Handmade (Helen Stewart). I use the 2021 advent calendar skeins from Crealien Design and color 3 is already ready to be wound. I knit a few more rows between the garter rows to make the shawls a bit longer because the pattern uses a regular thread together with a mohair thread and I don't use that mohair thread.

Ook keek ik deze week alle afleveringen van The Witcher, een fantasy serie op Netflix. Nu wachten op het nieuwe seizoen. Daarnaast las ik mijn 1e boek van 2022 uit. De Wilde Stilte van Raynor Winn, het vervolg op Het zoutpad. Ook dit was weer een mooi boek om te lezen.

I also watched all episodes of The Witcher, a fantasy series on Netflix this week. Now waiting for the new season. In addition, I finished my 1st book of 2022. Raynor Winn's Wild Silence, the sequel to The Salt Path. This was also a nice book to read.

Ik maakte ook groentensoep tijdens de koude dagen in de eerste week van januari. Momenteel is de temperatuur weer omhoog aan het gaan. Een echte winter hebben wij hier nog niet gehad, maar een goedgevulde soep gaat er altijd in.

I also made vegetable soup during the cold days in the first week of January. The temperature is currently rising again. We have not yet had a real winter here, but a well-filled soup is always welcome.

De december Harry Potter Mysterie set van Nicole C Mendez kwam laatst december ook binnen. Dit is een 3 maanden abonnement met zelfstrepend garen. De kleur is is Quidditch World Cup.

Ik heb het garen tot een bol opgedraaid zodat je een beetje ziet hoe het streeppatroon verloopt.

Booklist 2021

Aan de rechterzijkant heb ik altijd een lijst staan met daarin de boeken die ik in dat jaar gelezen heb. Die lijst plaats ik nu hier, zodat ik de lijst leeg kan maken en er de boeken in kan zetten die ik dit jaar ga lezen.

Het mooiste boek wat ik gelezen heb het afgelopen jaar? Dat zijn er 3. Tot mijn verrassing zijn alle drie de boeken geschreven door voor mij nieuwe schrijfsters. Het geheim van de thee van Roberta Marasco (boek 7), De geheime Bed & Breakfast van Federica Brunini (boek 29) en De theewinkel vol geluk van Manuela Inusa (boek 45). Echte aanraders !
Hebben jullie veel boeken gelezen in 2021?

All 48 books were again very nice to read. Most of the books I read were by Jenny Colgan and Nicola May and next to these 2 writers Debbie Johnson, Sherryl Woods and Robyn Carr are in my top 5 most read writers.
The best book I've read in the past year? There are 3. To my surprise, all three books are written by new writers for me. Le regole del tè e dell'amore (original Italian title) by Roberta Marasco - book 7, Due sirene in un bicchiere (original Italian title) from Federica Brunini (book 29) and Der kleine Teeladen zum Glück (original German title) by Manuela Inusa - book 45. Highly recommended but so far I didn't see them translated into English.

Net als voorgaande jaren plaats ik een overzicht van de werkjes die ik in 2021 heb gemaakt. Onder de foto's staat een link naar het betreffende project.

Er is 1 project minder afgemaakt dan vorig jaar, in totaal 11 projecten. Niet erg veel, maar er waren veel dagen dat ik niet of nauwelijks iets aan quilten of breien deed door vermoeidheid en hierover ook niets heb geschreven. Wel heb ik tussendoor ook aan de Jelly Roll deken gebreid, strikjes in elkaar gezet voor de Bowtie quilt en aan nog wat andere projecten die nog niet klaar zijn of half klaar (1 sok). Dus alles bij elkaar ben ik er heel tevreden over.
Weten jullie hoeveel werkjes jullie in 2021 gemaakt hebben?

One less project was completed than last year, a total of 11 projects. Not very much, but there were many days when I hardly did anything about quilting or knitting due to fatigue and I didn't write anything about it either. In between I did knit the Jelly Roll blanket, put together bows for the Bowtie quilt and some other projects that are not yet finished or half finished (1 sock). So all in all I'm very happy with it.

A mystery and a disaster

Laten we maar als eerste met een mysterie beginnen. Woensdag zat er bij de post een envelop en toen ik die opende zat er dit boek in. Het kleine huis in het grote bos van Laura Ingalls Wilder, het eerste deel van deze serie. Wie had me dit gestuurd? Het is via een winkel op bol.com schijnbaar besteld en die hebben het naar mij gestuurd, maar er zat geen briefje bij wie dit nu voor mij gekocht heeft.
Uiteraard ben ik hier echt super blij mee en ik ga ook proberen om de hele serie bij elkaar te krijgen. Maar ik zou zo graag diegene willen bedanken die dit voor mij gedaan heeft, maar omdat ik dit niet weet zeg ik het maar hier: Super bedankt voor dit mooie boek, ik ben er echt blij mee.

Let's start with a mystery first. On Wednesday there was an envelope in the post and when I opened it, it contained this book. The Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the first part of this series. Who sent me this? It was apparently ordered through a shop on bol.com and they sent it to me, but there was no note with who bought this for me.
Of course I'm really happy with this and I'm also going to try to get the whole series together. But I would really like to thank whoever did this for me, but because I don't know this I'll just say it here: Thank you so much for this beautiful book, I'm really happy with it.

Het ene moment (woensdagmiddag) heb je tranen in je ogen van geluk doordat je zo'n mooi boek cadeau hebt gekregen, het andere moment (woensdagavond) tranen in je ogen vanwege deze ramp. Deze deken gehaakt met de mooie mini bolletjes van Opal hing op de armleuning van mijn stoel en op een gegeven moment hoorde ik iets en keek omlaag. Mees lag erop en was bezig met de deken te vernielen. Het huilen stond me nader dan het lachen kan ik je vertellen, ... zucht. Ik heb de deken maar boven bij mijn garen neergelegd, geen idee of ik hem nog gemaakt krijg.

One moment you have tears in your eyes of happiness because you received such a beautiful book, the next moment tears in your eyes because of this disaster. This blanket crocheted with the beautiful mini skeins of Opal hung on the armrest of my chair and at one point I heard something and looked down. Mees lay on it and was busy destroying the blanket. The crying was closer to me than the laughter I can tell you, ... sigh. For now I put the blanket upstairs with my yarn, I have no idea if I can fix it.

En hier is de bandiet, sinds gisteravond gedeeltelijk uitgeschakeld door tabletten tegen de vuurwerkknallen, want hij wordt er helemaal hyper van en blijft aan het blaffen. Hij kreeg donderdagmorgen zijn jaarlijkse inenting en toen hebben we meteen medicatie gevraagd om hem rustig te houden tijdens oud en nieuw.

 

And here's the bandit, partly knocked out by tablets against the firecrackers since last night, because it makes him all hyper and he keeps barking. He received his annual vaccination on Thursday morning and we immediately asked for medication to keep him calm during New Years.

 

De kerstdagen waren heerlijk verlopen en ik had voor de kleinkinderen naast een boek en iets van speelgoed, deze houten hangers laten maken. Ik probeer elk jaar iets leuks voor ze te vinden dat ze in de boom kunnen hangen, zo krijgen ze een mooie collectie bij elkaar.

The Christmas holidays went wonderfully and I had these wooden hangers made for the grandchildren in addition to a book and a toy. Every year I try to find something nice for them that they can hang in the tree, so they get a nice collection together.

Mijn Christmas cast-on (kerstavond opzet project) was deze sok met de grote streng van Crealien die ik bij de advent kalender had meebesteld. Ik ben voorbij de hak, dus hij schiet lekker op. Als contrastkleur heb ik een lila kleur van Opal gebruikt.

My Christmas cast-on was this sock with the large skein from Crealien that I ordered with the advent calendar. I'm past the heel, so he's getting along nicely. As a contrast color I used a lilac color from Opal.

Deze streng van Little Bishes Stitches die ik een tijd terug besteld had, heb ik ook klaar liggen om mee te beginnen. Het is de kerst kleur Run, run Rudolph. Hier wil ik de Skyppy Stripes sokken mee breien, een gratis patroon op Ravelry (klik). Als contrastkleur gebruik ik de groene kleur, Dark mint 2133, van Durable Soqs.

I also have this skein of Little Bishes Stitches that I ordered a while back to start with. It's the Christmas color Run, run Rudolph. I want to knit the Skyppy Stripes socks with this, a free pattern on Ravelry (click). As a contrast color I use the green color, Dark mint 2133, from Durable Soqs.

Jullie denken vast na het zien van al die garens uit de advent kalenders, dat ik geen garen meer besteld heb? Mis ! Vorige week kwamen net voor kerst mijn 3 strengen binnen van Crealien. Ik had al een paar keer misgepakt op de zelfstrepende streng met de naam Christmas Cookies, hier links op de foto. Telkens was deze kleur met een paar minuten uitverkocht. Bij haar laatste update had ik eindelijk gelukt en gelukkig maar, want ook deze keer waren ze in een paar minuten weer uitverkocht. Erbij kocht ik Frozen Lake en Joy, beide ook kerstkleuren.

After seeing all those yarns from the advent calendars, you must think that I haven't ordered any more yarn? Wrong ! Last week just before Christmas my 3 skeins arrived from Crealien Designs. I got my eyes on the selfstriping skein Christmas Cookies, every time with her shop updates I was too late and it was sold out again. On the photo on the left. This color was always sold out in a few minutes. With her last update I finally succeeded and luckily, because this time they were sold out again in a few minutes. I also bought Frozen Lake and Joy, both also Christmas colors.

En gisteren kwam er nog een pakket uit Duitsland van Little Bishes Stitches. Zij had een mooie aanbieding met flinke korting ruim 2 weken geleden en dus heb ik nog wat kleuren besteld die ik niet had en die ik mooi vind. En ja die gele rechtsboven is echt een Neon gele kleur. Hoe ouder, hoe gekker is het toch?

And yesterday another package came from Germany from Little Bishes Stitches. She had a nice offer with a big discount over 2 weeks ago and so I ordered some colors that I didn't have and that I like. And yes, that yellow one at the top right is really a Neon yellow color. The older, the crazier it is, right?

De Harry potter streng van december is ook binnen gekomen maar die moet ik nog even tot een bol opdraaien. Dan wil ik jullie allemaal een fijn oudjaar wensen en voor het nieuwe jaar de beste wensen en een goede gezondheid, want dat is toch wel het belangrijkste, nietwaar?
Over 2 dagen post ik uiteraard weer alle projecten die afgekomen zijn in 2021 en ook mijn boekenlijst met de gelezen boeken van dit jaar.

Ze zijn allen weer mooi, maar dit jaar springen die van Crealien Designs en Atelier Sopra er voor mij boven uit. Met die van Crealien Designs ga ik na nieuwjaar de Dust of Snow wrap breien van Helen Stewart. De quilt stofjes vind ik ook erg mooi.

They are all beautiful again, but this year the one from Crealien Designs and Atelier Sopra stand out for me. After New Year I will knit the Dust of Snow wrap from Helen Stewart with the one from Crealien Designs one. I also like the quilt fabric very much.
