Ik maak mijn templates in 90% van de gevallen met freezerpaper, zeker in quilts waar elk blok een ander patroon heeft. Voor mij is dit de prettigste manier van werken. Er waren enkele lezers die me mailde met de vraag hoe ik dit nu precies doe, dus hier volgt een uitleg.
Als eerste neem je een stuk freezerpaper en legt dat op het patroon wat je wilt maken. Teken daarna met een potlood het blok over op freezerpaper. Hier zie je mijn 3e diamantje.
For 90 % I always make my templates for a quilt with freezerpaper. There where some readers who wrote me and ask how I do that so I will explain.
First you take a piece of freezerpaper and trace the pattern with a pencil onto it. Here you see my 3th diamond.
Ieder stukje van het blok dat in mijn boek staat geef ik een cijfer en die cijfers zet ik ook op mijn getekend patroon zoals je ziet, net als de draadrichting. Aan de hand van de cijfers kun je ook zien op welke kleur je welk deel moet strijken. Hierna knip ik elk patroondeel los zodat je allemaal losse stukjes krijgt. En in dit blok zitten erg kleine stukjes van soms maar 1 cm.
Each piece I give a number (I also do this in my book) and then I can see on which color I must iron each piece and also where every piece is placed in the block. Then you cut all the pieces loose. In this block are very small pieces as you can see, some are only 1/2 inch.
Daarna strijk je de stukjes op de kleur stof die je hebben wilt.
Then you iron all the pieces onto the fabric you want to use.
Als je dat gedaan hebt dan snij je elk deel uit met naadtoeslag. Trek daarna met een potlood met fijne punt elk patroon deel om zodat, als je later het freezerpaper eraf haalt, je de potloodlijnen ziet staan. Dit is namelijk je naai lijn.
When you have done that, then you cut all the pieces out with a seam allowance. Then you trace around the freezerpaper with a fine pencil so, when you take the freezerpaper of in a later stadium, you see the pencil line. This is your sew line.
Leg daarna alle patroondeeljes voor je neer zoals ze in elkaar gezet moeten worden. Handig is dan om dan naar je blok in het boek te kijken en je ziet direct waar welk nummer moet komen.
Then you place all the pieces in front of you. Look at the block in your book and you can see how to assemble the block, those numbers come in handy now.
Daarna kun je het blok in elkaar gaan zetten. Neem steeds twee stukjes die aan elkaar moeten komen en haal dan pas het freezerpaper eraf, net voordat je begint met naaien.
Then you can begin withing sewing the block. take two pieces and just before you start sewing them, you take off the freezerpaper.
Als de kleine blokjes klaar zijn, naai ik de rijen aan elkaar.
When those little blocks are ready I sew each row together.
En voor ik het weet is het middenstukje al klaar. Zoals je ziet is dit gedeelte maar 7 cm. breed.
And before I knew it, the middle piece was ready. As you can see this part is only 3 inch.
Als laatste komen de 4 witte zijkanten eraan zodat het een diamantje wordt. En wat kan een blokje dan veel naadjes hebben. Die krijg ik nooit allemaal in de goede richting gelegd, dus wat doe ik in dat geval? Gewoon in een keer de strijkbout erop en maar zien welke kant ze neergeplet worden. Werkt elke keer weer hihihi ...
The last part is to sew on the 4 white pieces so that it looks like a diamond. You can see that this block has many seams and I know I don´t get them all in the right direction, so what do I do? I take the iron, place it onto it and thats fine by me. It doesn't matter which way the seam is falling because the block is so small.
Nu willen jullie uiteraard ook de goede kant van de diamant zien nietwaar? Ik zelf vind hem weer aardig gelukt.
Now you want to see the good side of the diamond right? I myself think it looks okay.
Afgelopen vrijdag is ook schoonmoeder aangekomen voor een bezoekje van 1 week want Michiel is komende donderdag jarig en daar wil ze uiteraard bij zijn. Bovendien is het altijd reuze gezellig als ze er is.
Ik denk dat ik de komende dagen wat blokjes ga maken voor mijn antique sampler van Sue Daley want die ligt me toch te schreeuwen om afgemaakt te worden. Ik kan hem geen ongelijk geven want het laatste blokje is al maar dan 7 maanden geleden gemaakt (

Last friday my mother in law has arrived for staying for 1 week because Michiel has his birthday on thursday. its always fun when she is here.
I think I will make some blocks for the antique sampler from Sue Daley in the next few days because the quilt is screaming to me. I can't blame it because I made my last blocks for this quilt some 7 months ago ( HERE you can see them) ... oops !
