ADVENTuresome Wrap

Op 2e kerstdag kon ik dan eindelijk alle draadjes instoppen van de ADVENTuresome Wrap. Daarna heb ik hem een badje met eucalan gegeven en geblokt.

On Boxing Day I could finally weave in all the ends from the ADVENTuresome Wrap. Then I gave him a bath with eucalan and blocked it.

ADVENTuresome Wrap - Ambah O'Brien
Yarn: Het Wolbeest Adventskalender (24 blue/petrols colors)
(75% merino - 25% nylon)
Each mini ball is 20 gr. (85 m/93 yards)
Used 24 x 7.5 grams = total 180 grams
Yarn: Merino from Mrs Robinson's Hand-dyed Yarns (no color name)
(100% merino)
Skein is 100 gr. (440 m/481 yards) - Used 50 grams
Circular bamboo needle 3.25 mm (US 3)

De ADVENTuresome Wrap is gebreid met 2 verschillende garens. Allereerst heb ik de 24 kleuren gebruikt van Het Wolbeest advent kalender 2019. De witte gespikkelde kleur is van Mrs Robinson's Hand-dyed Yarns, maar heeft geen kleurnaam.

The ADVENTuresome Wrap is knitted with 2 kind of yarns. First are the 24 colors of the Het Wolbeest advent calendar 2019. The white color speckled is from Mrs Robinson's Hand-dyed Yarns, it has no color name.

De advent kalender had 24 kleuren en elke bal was 20 gram (85 m.), daarvan hield ik ongeveer 12.5 gram over per bal. Dat betekent dat er 24 x 32 m. = 768 m. in de sjaal zit.
De witte streng was 100 gram en had 440 meter. Ik had daar 50 gram van over, dus daar is 220 m. van gebruikt. Het totaal aantal meters voor deze sjaal is 988 meter.

The advent calendar had 24 colors and each little ball was 20 gram (85 m.) and I had 12.5 gram left over from each one. That means that I used 24 x 32 m. = 768 m. in this shawl. 
The white skein was 100 gram but had 440 meter. I had 50 gram left over, so I used 220 m. In total I used for this wrap 988 meter.

De sjaal is gebreid op naald 3.25  en hij is 240 x 30 cm.

Gisteren, tijdens onze 2 uur durende rit naar schoonmoeder in Haarlem, heb ik de laatste naalden gebreid aan mijn ADVENTuresome wrap van Ambah O'Brien.

Yesterday, during our 2-hour drive to mother-in-law in Haarlem, I knitted the last needles on my ADVENTuresome wrap from Ambah O'Brien.

Advent day 24

Er zijn heel veel lekkere kerstdranken. Denk maar aan glühwein, anijsmelk, Zweedse eggnog, warme punch, Deense glogg of gekruide appelcider. Maar zelf vind ik de warme chocolademelk nog het lekkerst, zeker als er bovenop wat marshmallows liggen, daarna een toef slagroom dat besprenkel is met wat cacao. 

There are many, many delicious Christmas drinks. Just think of mulled wine, anise milk, Swedish eggnog, hot punch, Danish glogg or spiced apple cider. But I personally think the hot chocolate is the tastiest, especially if there are some marshmallows on top, then a dash of whipped cream that is sprinkled with some cocoa.

Gisteren heb ik flink kunnen doorbreien en ik kon kleur 22 en 23 breien. Hopelijk krijg ik vandaag kleur 24 gebreid.

Wij wensen iedereen een hele fijne kerstavond.

Vanavond om 19 uur gaan we weer naar het Nederweert War Cementary om daar met vele andere de kaarsjes aan te steken op alle 362 graven (van Engelse soldaten). Even stil staan bij diegene die het leven lieten voor onze vrijheid.

We wish everyone a wonderful Christmas Eve.

Tonight at 7 o'clock we are going again to the Nederweert War Cementary to light the candles with many other people on all 362 graves (from British soldiers). Let us take a moment and think of those who lost their lives for our freedom.

En als we dan terug komen, dan pak ik mijn December garen van Schibot Garne voor mijn Christmas Eve cast-on. In de breiwereld beginnen veel breisters op kerstavond met een nieuw werkje. Ik ga beginnen met de "All is Calm" sokken van Kay Jones (van de Bakery Bears). 

Het patroon staat niet op ravelry. Dit was een freebie vorig jaar voor alleen de patreons van hun podcast. Dit jaar hebben we weer een ander patroon gekregen.

And when we come back, I take my December yarn from Schibot Garne for my Christmas Eve cast-on. In the knitting world, many knitters start a new piece on Christmas Eve. I'm going to start with the "All is Calm" socks from Kay Jones (from the Bakery Bears).
The pattern is not on ravelry. This was a freebie last year for only the patreons of their podcast. This year we have had a different pattern.

Advent day 23

Hoeveel rendieren heeft de Kerstman, hebben ze allemaal een naam en wat eten zij zoal?
De Kerstman heeft 9 rendieren. Ze heten Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen en natuulijk Rudolph. Rudolph is toch wel de bekendste. Hij is te herkennen aan zijn helderrode neus. De rendieren eten meestal toendra gras, maar de kerstman geeft de rendieren soms ook rendier koekjes. Want net zoals je eigen dieren mogen Rendieren alleen eten krijgen dat speciaal voor hen gemaakt is. En in de 2 weken voor de kerstnacht krijgen de rendieren ook het speciale vliegstof.

How many reindeer does Santa have, do they all have a name and what do they eat?
Santa Claus has 9 reindeer. They are called Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Thunder, Blitzen and of course Rudolph. Rudolph is the best known. He can be recognized by his bright red nose. The reindeer usually eat tundra grass, but Santa sometimes also gives reindeer cookies. Because, just like your own animals, Reindeer can only receive food that is specially made for them. And in the 2 weeks before Christmas night, the reindeer also receive the special fly dust.

Tot slot wil ik nog even dit boek aanraden. Het nieuwste boek van Reina Crispijn is er weer een die je niet weg wilt leggen als je er eenmaal in begint. Haar boeken staan erom bekend dat, als je eenmaal begint met lezen, je er niet meer van los komt. Dat bewijst ook weer het boek Droomplek.

Finally, I want to recommend this book. The latest book from Reina Crispijn is another one that you don't want to put away once you start in it. Her books are known that once you start reading, you can't stop reading. The book Droomplek proves that again. As far as I know, her books are not translated into English.

Advent day 22

Winterhard en groenblijvend: wat is het verschil?
We spreken over een winterharde plant als deze zonder bedekking de winter overleeft. Als de bladeren in het najaar uitvallen, zal de plant het jaar erna weer uitlopen. Het is dus niet altijd zo dat een winterharde plant zijn bladeren gedurende de winter behoud. Bij een groenblijvende plant is dit wel zo.
Van groenblijvende winterharde planten kun je het hele jaar door genieten. Deze behoudt zijn groene bladeren gedurende de hele winter. Een winterharde plant is dus niet altijd groenblijvend, maar andersom geldt dit wel: een groenblijvende plant is altijd winterhard.

Hardy and evergreen: what is the difference?
We are talking about a hardy plant if it survives the winter without cover. If the leaves fall out in the fall, the plant will sprout again the following year. It is therefore not always the case that a hardy plant retains its leaves during the winter. This is the case with an evergreen plant.
You can enjoy evergreen hardy plants all year round. This retains its green leaves throughout the winter. A hardy plant is therefore not always evergreen, but the reverse also applies: an evergreen plant is always hardy.

Advent day 21

Het is nog steeds niet echt koud in ons land, maar als het straks begint te vriezen en of sneeuwen, dan vinden vogels het altijd fijn als ze wat voer in onze tuinen kunnen vinden. Als je voederhuizen vult, strooi dan ook wat voer op de grond, want daar zoekt het roodborstje altijd zijn voer. 

Iedere vogelsoort heeft zijn eigen voorkeuren. Mezen eten bijvoorbeeld graag pinda’s, merels komen eerder af op appels, en roodborstjes zijn gek op ongekookte havermout. Mussen zullen een handje zonnebloempitten niet onberoerd laten.

It is still not really cold in our country, but when it soon starts to freeze and / or snow, birds always like it when they can find some food in our gardens. If you fill feed houses, then sprinkle some food on the ground, because the robin is always looking for its food there.

Day 19 of the ADVENTuresome wrap

Gisteren kwamen ook 3 strengen sokken wol binnen die ik besteld had bij Piratenwolle in Duitsland. Tot mijn grote verbazing was er een extra streng (de linkse) bij gedaan om daarvan iets te maken voor mijn kleindochter Lana, wat ontzettend lief ! Ook zat er nog een hert stekenmarkeerder bij.

Yesterday also 3 skeins of wool came in that I ordered from Piratenwolle in Germany. To my great surprise an extra strand (the left one) was added, to make something for my granddaughter Lana, how very sweet! There was also a deer stitch marker included.
