Baskets for You top finished

Afgelopen zaterdag nam ik naar The Log Cabin, naast de Antique Sampler, ook de top mee van de Baskets for You quilt die helemaal klaar was. Wie de blog van Sis (klik) leest, heeft daar al een foto kunnen zien van deze quilt.

Het is een patroon van Sue Daley en hoewel ik altijd roep dat ik geen quilts maak, met tig keer hetzelfde patroontje, was deze mandjesquilt een genot om aan te werken.

Last saturday I took with me to the quiltshop, beside the Antique Sampler, also the quilt top Baskets for You that I finished. Who the blog of Sis (click) reads, has already seen a picture of this quilt.

The pattern is from Sue Daley and I always said that I won't make a quilt with all the same pattern, ... this basket quilt was such a fun to make.

De quilt top zonder de rand maakte ik (met de hand) in 34 dagen, daarna bleef hij even liggen omdat ik last van mijn armen had. Afgelopen vrijdag heb ik de rand eraan gezet en de randstof die ik eigenlijk bestemd had voor een andere quilt, maakt deze quilt helemaal af. De quilt is nu 170 x 170 cm.

I made the quilt top (without the border) in 34 days, all by hand, but then I had to put it away because I got some troubles with my arms. Last friday I put the border on and the borderfabric, a fabric that I eventually bought for another quilt, makes this quilt completely finished, I just love it. The quilt is now 67" x 67".

De rozenpelargonium (Pelargonium graveolens), beter bekend als de citroengeranium staat ook weer in bloei. Heerlijk om er even met je handen aan te zitten want ze ruiken dan naar citroen.

The Pelargonium graveolens is blooming. I just love to take the leaves in my hands, because then your hands smells like lemon.

Een van mijn favoriete planten is het nagelkruid. Ik hou van zijn mooie warme oranje kleur.

One of my favorite plants is the geum. I just love his warm orange color.

Double celebration

Op 2 mei hebben we altijd dubbel feest. Het is namelijk onze trouwdag, maar het is ook de dag dat dochter Lindy jarig is. Vandaag wordt ze alweer 28 jaar. 

 Lindy gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag !

On may 2 we always have a double celebration. Its our wedding anniversary, but its also the birthday of daughter Lindy. She turns 28 today.

De applicatie op het middenblok voor de mandjes quilt is ook af en ik vind hem zelf erg leuk geworden.

I finished the applique for the middle block for the basket quilt and I like it very much.

Inmiddels ben ik druk bezig om alle blokken aan elkaar te zetten. Ook heb ik de randstof er even los aangelegd om te zien hoe hij uiteindelijk gaat worden. Ik ben tevreden ;-)

I already started with sewing the blocks together. I laid out the border fabric besides the blocks so I can see how it is going to be. I'm satisfied ;-)

Applique

De stofjes voor het geappliceerde middenblok van de mandjesquilt waren zo uitgezocht. Links ligt de randstof die rondom de quilt komt.

I choose my fabrics for the applique middle block for the Basket quilt. On the left you see the border fabric that is going all around the quilt. 

 

Inmiddels ben ik druk bezig met het appliceren van dit blok en ik hoop het vandaag of morgen af te krijgen.

I'm busy with the applique on this block and hope to finish it today or tomorrow. 

 

Buiten is het nog nat van de regen die gisteren viel, Bowy ligt nu heerlijk op de bank te slapen.

Outside its all wet from the rain that fell yesterday, Bowy is now sleeping on the couch.

 

 Deze plant blijft gewoon mooi als hij bloeit. 

This plant is so beautiful when its blooming.

The last baskets

Gisteren was het precies 1 maand geleden dat ik met het maken van de mandjes begon.

Yesterday it was exactly 1 month ago that I started with making the baskets.

Gisteren was het ook de dag dat ik het allerlaatste mandje maakte voor deze quilt.

Yesterday was also the day that I made the last basket for this quilt.

In totaal heb ik nu 128 mandjes gemaakt in 1 maand tijd, omgerekend is dat 4 mandjes per dag. Niet slecht toch?

In total I made 128 baskets in 1 month, converted is that 4 baskets per day. Thats not too bad isn't ?

Nu kan ik beginnen aan het middenblok. Hierop komen bloemen geappliceerd en als dat klaar is, dan kan ik de quilttop in elkaar gaan zetten.

Now I can start with the middle block. I have to applique some flowers on it and when that is ready I can sew the quilt top together.

King's Day

Vandaag is het voor de 1e keer Koningsdag en dat vonden de mandjes zo bijzonder dat ze graag op de foto wilde bij de oranje bloemen van het nagelkruid.

Today its King's Day (click) for the first time in the Netherlands. Before we had Queen's Day, but since last year we have a King. The baskets found this so special that they want to take their picture by the orange flowers of the geum.

 

Zelfs de goudvissen met hun oranje kleur laten zich vrolijk zien.

Even the goldfish with their orange color swim happy in the pond.

 

Nu de zon steeds meer gaat schijnen, gaat het hard met de bloemen in de tuin. De roos laat al 2 bloemen zien.

Now that the sun is shining more often, the plants in the garden grow fast. The rose already is showing 2 flowers.

De tuin geranium staat volop in bloei.

The garden geranium is in bloom. 

 

Mevrouw merel is druk aan het spitten in de tuin op zoek naar voedsel.

Mrs blackbird is busy in the garden looking for food.

Nog een keer het mooie oranje nagelkruid, samen met het blauw van de vergeet-me-nietjes en het rose van de tuin geranium.

Again the orange geum, together with the blue of the forget-me-not and the pink of the garden geranium.

 
En niet te vergeten meneer Bowy die, zoals gewoonlijk, zit te genieten in het zonnetje.

And don't forget Mr. Bowy who is, as usually, enjoying the sun.

 

Een fijne Koningsdag iedereen ! 

Only 12 to go ...

De mandjes die de afgelopen dagen gemaakt zijn, heb ik inmiddels weer aan elkaar gezet tot een groter blok.

The baskets I made the last few days, I sewed together.

 

Met deze 4 mandjes erbij staat het totaal nu op 116. Dat betekent dat ik er nog 12 mag maken. 

With these 4 baskets the total is now 116. That means I only have to make 12 baskets.

Baskets in the hawthorn

Gistermiddag heerlijk in de tuin mandjes zitten maken, terwijl het zonnetje vrolijk scheen.

Yesterday afternoon I was sitting in the garden making baskets, while the sun was shining. 

 

Achter me hoorde ik de solitaire bijen zoemen, die druk bezig waren in het bijenhotel om hun eitjes te leggen voor volgend jaar.

 

Behind me the solitair bees where busy to put eggs in the holes of the bee hotel. 

 

Ondertussen ook luisterend naar het zachte gekrabbel van het water op de waterval. Pure meditatie zulke momenten.

Meanwhile listening to the soft sound of the water of the waterfall. Pure meditation such moments.

 

Zelfs Bowy geniet van deze momenten, zittend bij de vuurkuil ;-) 

Even Bowy is enjoying such moments, sitting by the fire pit ;-) 

 

Twee mandjes werden er 's middags gemaakt en voor heel even mochten ze hangen in de meidoorn.

I made two baskets in the afternoon and for a short moment I hang them in the hawthorn. 

 

Ook 's avonds heb ik nog 4 mandjes gemaakt.

In the evening I made again 4 baskets.

 

Yellow in the garden

Helemaal achter in de tuin knalt het geel je tegemoet.

In the back of the garden you see all yellow. 

Het zijn de gele bloemen van de koolzaadplant die daar spontaan opgekomen is.

That are the yellow flowers of the rapeseed, that spontaneous is growing there.

 

De plant is zo hoog dat hij met gemak de meidoorn raakt. Prachtig dat rose met geel samen.

The plant is so high that it easily reaches the hawthorn. Beautiful the pink with yellow together.

 

Nu de zon weer vaker schijnt is Bowy vaak in de tuin te vinden. Hij vindt het heerlijk om daar te zonnebaden ;-)

Now that the sun is shining more often, Bowy is a lot in the garden . He love to sun bading ;-)

 

Gisteren heb ik ook weer een paar mandjes gemaakt.

Yesterday I made again some baskets. 

 

Ik moet er nu nog 22 maken en dan zijn alle mandjes af.

I only have to make 22 baskets and then they are all finished. 

 

 

Back home

Zoals ik al vertelde in mijn vorige berichtje stonden de afgelopen dagen in het teken van iets anders en dat was dat we op vrijdag vertrokken om een paar dagen naar Haarlem te gaan, gezellig op bezoek bij schoonmoeder Wil.

De overbuurvrouw van Wil kwam nog een heerlijke cake brengen in de vorm van een paashaas ...

As I said in my previous post, the last few days I was doing something else. Well ... we went visiting my mother-in-law Wil in Haarlem for a couple of days.

A neighbor of her brought a delicious easter bunny cake ...

 

Jullie begrijpen het vast wel ...

Op zaterdagmorgen gingen we ook even naar quiltwinkel The Sampler, want die gaat dicht en ze hebben nu volop aanbiedingen. Ik kocht een aantal mooie fat quarters.

Saturday morning we went to a quiltshop that is closing his doors and I bought some nice fat quarters. 

 

Ook stond er een hele grote rieten mand met restanten waar je heerlijk in kon grabbelen ... ik heb mijn best gedaan ;-)

They also had a basket with leftovers in all kind of sizes and I search for some beautiful ones. You can't have enough of these ;-)

 

Terwijl Michiel op zaterdagmiddag een klusje deed voor zijn moeder, zat ik buiten heerlijk in het zonnetje te werken aan .... juist ... de mandjes !

While Michiel did some work for his mother in the afternoon, I was sitting in outside in the sun working on ... right ... my baskets !

 

Natuurlijk zijn we ook een aantal keren wezen uitwaaien in de Waarderpolder bij de "Mooie Nel".

We also went for a walk a couple of times nearby a little lake.

 

Bowy kan daar heerlijk achter zijn bal rondrennen.

Bowy can freely chase his tennisball.

 

Met als resultaat dat hij daarna toe is aan zijn middag dutje.

The result is that when we got home he has to take a nap. 

 

Wil gaf me ook nog twee schoollapjes mee die ze vroeger op school gemaakt heeft. Het rood-blauwe stekenlapje maakte ze rond 1942 op 8 jarige leeftijd.

Wil gave me some pieces she made at school when she was young. This red-blue one she made in 1942 when she was 8 years young.

 

Dit smocklapje heeft ze ook op school gemaakt maar ze wist niet meer precies hoe oud ze toen was. 

This piece she also made at school but she can't remember how old she was. 

 

Na een paar super gezellige dagen in Haarlem, zijn we op maandagavond weer terug naar Limburg gereden. In totaal heb ik daar 4 mandjes  gemaakt.

After some lovely days in Haarlem, we drove home on monday evening. In total I made 4 baskets there.
