July and August update

Ik zou al na een paar dagen de volgende update schrijven, maar er kwam weer van alles tussen. Inmiddels zijn er weer een paar weken voorbij, dus hoog tijd om een nieuw blogje te schrijven.
Op 2 juli waren we wezen midgetgolfen bij Midgetgolf de peelpoort. Dankzij mijn nieuwe rollator kan ik nu beter en langer uit de voeten.
Dit keer had Michiel gewonnen, maar er komt snel een revanche aan. We hadden in elk geval ontzettend veel lol.

I was going to write the next update after a few days, but things got in the way again. A few weeks have now passed, so it's high time to write a new blog.
On July 2 we played miniature golf at Midgetgolfdepeelpoort. Thanks to my new rollator I can now get out of my feet better and longer.
This time Michiel won, but a revenge is coming soon. Anyway, we had a lot of fun.

Na het midgetgolfen hebben we daar in de buurt nog zo'n 40 minuten gewandeld. Veel vlinders gezien, maar ze lieten zich helaas niet fotograferen.
Bij thuiskomst genoten van pannenkoeken (gebakken door Michiel) met fruit.

After playing mini golf we walked around for about 40 minutes. Many butterflies seen, but unfortunately they did not allow themselves to be photographed.

In juli en augustus kreeg ik 3 paar sokken af.
Op 6 juli had ik deze sokken af, wat was dit een fijn patroon om te breien.

Op 27 juli had ik de Fairground sokken van Kay Jones af. Ook weer een heerlijk patroon om te breien.

Op 13 augustus had ik deze sokken af. Het is de kleur Roodborstje van West Yorkshire Spinners. Ik kocht deze in januari 2020 toen we op kraambezoek waren in Engeland bij mijn eerste kleindochter Lana.

On August 13 I finished these socks. It is the color Robin from West Yorkshire Spinners. I bought this in January 2020 when we were visiting my first granddaughter Lana in England after she was born.

In july had ik ook 4 delen gebreid aan My favourite blanket.
Kay Jones  is een project van een jaar gestart met de naam My Favourite Blanket en gebruikt 2 x 50 gram voor elk onderdeel (wordt met dubbele draad gebreid).
Kay verft het garen voor elk onderdeel zelf en neemt een bloem of plant van die maand als inspiratie, maar ik ga garen uit mijn voorraad gebruiken dat me doet denken aan iets uit de natuur.
De tweede kleur doet me denken aan krokussen. Hij is van Schibotgarne kleur February 2020 (bot socks club winter).

In July I also knitted 4 parts of My favourite blanket.
Kay Jones  has started a year long project called My Favourite blanket and it uses 2 x 50 gram for each part (2 strands holding together).
Kay dyes the yarn for every part herself  and takes a flower or plant of that month as inspiration, but I'm going to use yarn from my stash that reminds me of something from Nature.
The second color reminds me of crocuses. It's from Schibotgarne color February 2020 (bot socks club winter).

De derde kleur doet me denken aan deze fuchsia. Hij is van Piratenwolle kleur Fliederblute (jaar abo 2020).

Op 16 augustus zijn we naar De Kwegt geweest om vogels te spotten. Michiels favoriete hobby. Het weer was prachtig en zelfs aangenaam warm in de zon.

Op 19 augustus zijn we naar de weversmarkt in Geldrop geweest. Super gezellige markt ondanks de regenbuien. Twee mooie bollen gekocht bij Thedutchcottage en bij Het breipunt kocht ik garen voor het gehaakt truitje.
Daarna zijn we wezen mini golfen in Geldrop en jahoor, Michiel was weer de winnaar.
Als afsluiter heerlijk gegeten bij Sphynx in Heeze.
Voorgerecht gebakken champions in wijn en knoflook, hoofdgerecht Tournedos van zalm met roomsaus en verse basilicum (ik was al begonnen met eten), nagerecht hazelnoot en vanille ijs met slagroom.

On August 19 we went to the weavers market in Geldrop. Super cozy market despite the rain showers. Bought two beautiful balls at @Thedutchcottage and at Het breipunt I bought yarn for the crocheted sweater (is this the correct word?)
Then we went mini golfing in Geldrop and yes, Michiel was the winner again.
Finally, a delicious meal at Sphynx in Heeze.
Starter baked champions in wine and garlic, main course Tournedos of salmon with cream sauce and fresh basil (I had already started eating), dessert hazelnut and vanilla ice cream with whipped cream.
Today we are going to visit the south of Limburg.

De volgende dag, 20 augustus, reden we eerst naar Stein om daar te midgetgolfenn (helaas verloor ik ook deze ronde weer, maar we hadden wel volop plezier).
Daarna reden we verder het zuiden in en stopte op verschillende plaatsen om vogels te spotten.  Ook maakte we een stop in Slenaken om een heerlijke ijs van De Helenahoeve te eten die heerlijk was.
Al met al weer een dag met een gouden randje. De komende dagen is het wel rustig aan doen, maar het was het waard.

The next day, August 20, we first drove to Stein to play mini golf there (unfortunately I lost this round again, but we had a lot of fun). Then we drove further south, stopping at several places to spot birds. We also made a stop in Slenaken to eat a ice cream from De Helenahoeve which was delicious. All in all another wonderful day.

en ik deed mee aan de Summer of Socks van WolmetVerve. Je kreeg dan 6 soksets van verschillende materialen.

Alles zat in een mooie linnen tas en er zat een notitieboek bij.

Ook wordt er tussendoor soms een (kleine) granny square gehaakt van een restje sokkenwol. Ze gaan allemaal in een zakje en zullen in de toekomst eens aan elkaar gehaakt worden.

Sometimes a (little) granny square is also crocheted from a leftover sock wool. They all go in a bag and will be crocheted together in the future.

De volgende update over de maanden september en oktober komt er heel snel aan, let maar op ...

Lots to tell and 2 pairs of socks finished

Begin april maakte ik de Christmas Tree socks af. Het patroon is de Heel toe do si do van The crazy sock lady en het garen kwam uit de Countdown to Christmas box 2021 van Nicole C. Mendez.
De naam van de kleur is Christmas Tree en de contrast kleur is Orchid van Lamingtonlass.

At the beginning of April I finished the Christmas Tree socks. The pattern is the Heel toe do si do by The crazy sock lady and the yarn came from Nicole C. Mendez's Countdown to Christmas box 2021.
The name of the color is Christmas Tree and the contrast color is Orchid from Lamingtonlass.

Op 9 april mochten we ook de extra cadeau's open maken die in de paas wol swap zaten en ik werd goed verwend door Liane en Yvon. Ze waren vergeten mijn naam te delen met een swap partner en toen hebben zij beide dit voor mij samengesteld.

On April 9, we were also allowed to open the extra gifts that were included in the Easter wool swap and I was spoiled by Liane and Yvon. They forgot to share my name with a swap partner and then they both put this together for me.

Ook mocht ik het eerste bolletje wol openen, de start van mijn paas wol swap sokken. Ik heb eerst de zalm kleurige bol van de cadeau's genomen en een paar naalden boord gebreid, daarna de boord afgemaakt met de kleur Lime van Irish Fairytale yarns. Vanuit daar heb ik alle 14 bolletjes wol, waarvan ik er elke dag 1 opende, in de sok gebreid. Het is een vrolijk paar geworden en ik ben er super blij mee.

I was also allowed to open the first ball of wool, the start of my Easter wool swap socks. I first took the salmon-colored ball of the gifts and knitted a few needles cuff, then finished the cuff with the color Lime from Irish Fairytale yarns. From there I knitted all 14 balls of wool, of which I opened 1 every day, into the sock. It has become happy socks and I am very happy with it.

Begin april kwam ook de Opal Abo binnen van maart, dit is het 4e jaar dat ik meedoe en ik ben elke keer weer verrast hoe mooi de kleuren zijn.

At the beginning of April the Opal Abo also arrived from March, this is the 4th year that I participate and I am surprised every time how beautiful the colors are.

In de winkel van Tante Tuttebol kwamen ook de Vincent van Gogh kleuren van Opal binnen. Ik had er 3 uit deze serie en kocht de ontbrekende 5 er meteen bij.

The Vincent van Gogh colors of Opal also arrived in Tante Tuttebol's shop. I had 3 from this series and bought the missing 5 immediately.

Op 5 april heb ik ook nog de super leuke workshop Dubbel breien gevolgd van Mr. Knitbear, gehouden bij Tante Tuttebol.
Anja, de eigenaresse, had zelfs een Mr. Knitbear thee samen laten stellen die bijna zo zwart is als motorolie. Het moest tenslotte een stoere mannelijke thee zijn en hij was me toch lekker. We kregen ook allemaal een zakje mee en het mooie boek.

On April 5th I also followed the super fun Double Knitting workshop from Mr. Knitbear, held at Tante Tuttebol.
Anja, the owner, even had a Mr. Knitbear tea put together that is almost as black as engine oil. After all, it had to be a tough masculine tea and it taste really good. We all got a bag of tea and the beautiful book.

De opzet vond ik even moeilijk, maar de volgende dag nog even flink geoefend en ik had het daarna snel onder de knie. De rest ging me goed af, maar ik zag wel dat ik naald 2 verkeerd had gebreid. Al met al ontzettend genoten.

I found the set-up difficult for a while, but I practiced a lot the next day and I quickly mastered it. The rest went well for me, but I saw that I had knitted row 2 wrong. All in all really enjoyed it.

Een week of twee terug won ik ook nog een streng bij Nicole C. Mendez. Je kunt elke maand meedoen aan haar year long knit-along. Heb je een paar sokken met haar garen gebreid dan gebruik je een bepaalde hashtag op instagram en zij kiest elke maand een winnaar uit. Ik was met bovenstaande Christmas Tree sokken gewonnen. De kleur die ik als prijs uit koos heet Celebrations en heeft een 8 kleuren streep patroon.

A week or two ago I also won a skein from Nicole C. Mendez. You can participate in her year-long knit-along every month. If you have knitted a pair of socks with her yarn, you use a certain hashtag on Instagram and she chooses a winner every month. I won with the above Christmas Tree socks. The color I chose as a prize is called Celebrations and has an 8 color stripe pattern.

Waar ben ik nu nog mee bezig? Ik had deze kleur uitgekozen uit de Vincent van Gogh serie van Opal om daarmee de Chicky Lace sokken te breien van Pien Roggeveen, een freebie te vinden op Ravelry. Ze is ook bekend als @sokkenvanpien op instagram. De kleur is nummer 5437 en heet Das Restaurant de la Sirène in Asnières.

What am I still doing? I chose this color from the Vincent van Gogh series by Opal to knit the Chicky Lace socks by Pien Roggeveen, a freebie which you can find on Ravelry. She is also known as @sokkenvanpien on instagram. The color is number 5437 and is called Das Restaurant de la Sirène in Asnières.

Inmiddels is de eerste sok af en tijdens het breicafe afgelopen dinsdag bij Tante Tuttebol startte ik de tweede sok. Ik wil deze graag af hebben voor 2 mei want dan begint de Summer of Stitching bij de Bakery Bears en Kay Jones heeft een mooi sok patroon voor ons in petto.

The first sock is now finished and during the knitting cafe last Tuesday at Tante Tuttebol I started the second sock. I would like to finish this before May 2, because then the Summer of Stitching starts at the Bakery Bears and Kay Jones has a nice sock pattern in store for us.

Verder ben ik ook begonnen aan de Owl and Hare Hollow quilt, een blok van de maand, die 6 maanden lang verschijnt in het Homespun magazine. De ontwerpster is Natalie Bird. Ik maak deze quilt tussen het breien door en heb er geen haast mee.

I also started the Owl and Hare Hollow quilt, a block of the month, which appears in Homespun magazine for 6 months. The designer is Natalie Bird. I'm making this quilt in between knitting and I'm in no rush to do it.

 

Lancaster Diamonds and more

Lancaster Diamonds? Wat zijn dat ook alweer zul je je afvragen. Dat zijn de blokjes van de Lancaster Diamond Sampler van Ann Holte. De laatste die ik liet zien waren de diamantjes voor rij K en dat was in april 2018. Hoog tijd dus om ermee verder te gaan en in 2 weken heb ik rij L helemaal af. 

Lancaster Diamonds? What are those again you may ask. Those are the blocks of the Lancaster Diamond Sampler by Ann Holte. The last one I showed were the diamonds for row K and that was in April 2018. So it was high time to continue with it and in 2 weeks I finished row L.

Er zijn ook nog een paar dingen waarover ik het nog niet gehad heb, zoals Mees die op 29 augustus slaagde voor de cursus Brugklas. Hij heeft nu 2 cursussen gehad en beide goed afgesloten.

There are also a few things that I haven't mentioned yet, such as Mees who passed his first grade exam (secondary school) on August 29. He has now had 2 courses and both completed well.

Wanneer ik bij de dierenwinkel ben geweest, dan kan ik het niet laten om iets lekkers mee te brengen voor Mees. Zo lag hij op 7 september, een heel zonnige dag, te genieten op zijn handdoek in de tuin van zijn lekkernij.

When I've been to the pet store, I can't resist bringing Mees something tasty. For example, on September 7, a very sunny day, he was enjoying his delicacy on his towel in the garden.

Eind augustus had ik ook mijn 4e rij van de Jelly Roll blanket van Kay Jones af, die ik hoofdzakelijk brei met Fabel van Drops. De lengte is 150 cm.

At the end of August I also finished my 4th row of Kay Jones' Jelly Roll blanket, which I knit mainly with Fabel from Drops. The length is 150 cm (60").

Op 6 augustus ontving ik deze mooie streng met 2 mini's. Ik had dit gewonnen bij Rosygarn op Instagram. Natuurlijk moest ik direct een paar sokken opzetten, want ik wilde graag zien hoe het eruit ziet als het gebreid is. Dit worden de Promenade sokken van Kay Jones.

On August 6, I received this beautiful skein with 2 minis. I had won this at Rosygarn on Instagram. Of course I immediately had to cast on a pair of socks, because I wanted to see what it would look like when it was knitted. These will be the Promenade socks from Kay Jones.

En ook dit wolletje van vmcjknitwear (op IG) wilde ik even uitproberen, het is alpaca met Peruaanse hoogland wol en polyamide. Het patroon is Clementine sokken van Kay Jones. De stekenmarkeerder is ook van vmcjknitwear. 

And I also wanted to try this wool from vmcjknitwear (on IG), it's alpaca with Peruvian highland wool and polyamide. The pattern is Clementine socks from Kay Jones. The stitch marker is also from vmcjknitwear.

Aan beide sokken ga ik binnenkort verder, want op 1 september moest ik aan de slag met iets anders. De school begon namelijk weer op Hogwarts, dus tijd om een paar Back to Hogwarts sokken te breien.
Het garen is van de Harry Potter club van Nicole C Mendez in de kleur Fawkes (Felix de Feniks).

I will soon be working on both socks again, because on September 1 I had to get started with something else. School started again at Hogwarts, so time to knit a pair of Back to Hogwarts socks.

Op 14 september had ik 1 Back to Hogwarts sok af, maar ook 1 Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans sok. Deze laatste is gebreid met Supersocke 4-fach van Online in de kleur 2679. De 2e van beide sokken wordt ook binnenkort gebreid.

On September 14, I finished 1 Back to Hogwarts sock, but also 1 Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans sock. This last one is knitted with Supersocke 4-fach from Online in color 2679. The 2nd of both socks will also be knitted soon.

Volgens mij heb ik nu alles laten zien wat ik nog niet gepost had. Wat staat er allemaal nog op de planning? Ik wil nog wat diamanten maken voor de Lancaster Diamond en komende week wil ik beginnen met een kerstquilt. Ik kocht afgelopen week bij Patch and Stitch een panel van Beatrix Potter (met 2 FQ's die ik ga gebruiken voor project tasjes). Het panel was razend snel uitverkocht (sorry voor de wat donkere foto's).

I think I've now shown everything I hadn't posted yet. What else is planned? I want to make some more diamonds for the Lancaster Diamond and next week I want to start a Christmas quilt. Last week I bought a panel of Beatrix Potter at Patch and Stitch (with 2 FQ's that I will use for project bags). The panel sold out very quickly (sorry for the some what dark pictures).

Gisteren en zaterdag was ik bezig met het bedenken van allerlei ontwerpen voor de kerstquilt, maar uiteindelijk vond ik een simpel patroon (biesjes rondom elke afbeelding) toch het mooiste. Aankomende zaterdag ga ik stofjes kopen voor de rest van deze quilt en dan kan ik beginnen. Hier nog wat foto's van de plaatjes.

Yesterday and Saturday I was busy coming up with all kinds of designs for the Christmas quilt, but in the end I liked a simple pattern (sashings around each image) the best. This Saturday I'm going to buy fabrics for the rest of this quilt and then I can start. Here are some more pictures of the drawings.
