Socks for granddaughters

De kerstdagen zijn heel gezellig verlopen. Eerste kerstdag hebben we door gebracht met zoon en dochter en hun gezinnen in het huis van mijn dochter.Ze had voor de 3 meiden een etagere met allerlei lekkers erop neergezet.

The Christmas holidays went very pleasantly. We spent Christmas Day with our son and daughter and their families in my daughter's house. She had placed a tiered display with all kinds of sweets on it for the 3 girls.

Je snapt wel dat ze dat heel lekker vonden.

You can imagine that they really liked that.

Na al dat snoepen werd er ook volop gespeeld, Lana en Yara liepen rond met hun mooiste juwelen

After all that snacking there was also plenty of playing, Lana and Yara walked around with their most beautiful jewelry

terwijl Loïs met haar toverstaf liep te zwaaien.

Schoonzoon Kyle en onze dochter hadden een Engels diner gemaakt. Dit bestond dan uit een biefrollade, 2 verschillende kiprollades, veel groenten zoals wortel met pastinaak, spruitjes met spekjes,bloemkool en broccoli, witte kool, aardappelpuree en geroosterde aardappels, heerlijke jus, 2 soorten stuffing (dit zijn kruidenballetjes, de een was met salie en de ander was met cranberries) en Yorkshire pudding (foto van internet, ik was vergeten foto's te maken). De tafel stond bomvol en bijna alles is opgegeten.

Son-in-law Kyle and our daughter had made an English dinner. This consisted of a beef roulade, 2 different chicken roulades, many vegetables such as carrot with parsnips, Brussels sprouts with bacon, cauliflower and broccoli, white cabbage, mashed and roasted potatoes, delicious gravy, 2 types of stuffing (these are herb balls, one was with sage and the other was with cranberries) and Yorkshire pudding (photo from the internet, I forgot to take pictures). The table was packed and almost everything was eaten.

Als toetje hadden we IJstaart d’arancio- & vanille ijs (Sinaasappelijs met pure chocolade gecombineerd met klassieke vanille) en die was me toch lekker.

For dessert we had ice cream cake d'arancio & vanilla ice cream (orange ice cream with dark chocolate combined with classic vanilla) and it was delicious.

 

Ik had voor de 3 kleindochters ook sokken gebreid. Het garen dat ik gebruikt had was van Flotte Socke Melody in de kleuren 3020, 3023 en 3024. De maat was van alle drie 26/27 want ze hebben nagenoeg dezelfde maat.

I also knitted socks for the 3 granddaughters. The yarn I used was from Flotte Socke Melody in the colors 3020, 3023 and 3024. The size of all three was EU 26/27 because they are almost the same size.

 

Ze konden niet wachten om ze aan te trekken en ze hebben ze verder ook de hele dag aangehad. Hier op rij van links naar rechts Loïs, Yara en Lana.

Twee weken geleden kwamen ook deze 2 strengen binnen van Crealien Design.

Het zijn zelfstrepende garens.

They are self-striping yarns.

 

En net voor kerst kwam het januari pakket binnen van S7ors. Een streng van 50 gram en 5 mini's van 20 gram met een paar extra dingen.

Ze zijn allen weer mooi, maar dit jaar springen die van Crealien Designs en Atelier Sopra er voor mij boven uit. Met die van Crealien Designs ga ik na nieuwjaar de Dust of Snow wrap breien van Helen Stewart. De quilt stofjes vind ik ook erg mooi.

They are all beautiful again, but this year the one from Crealien Designs and Atelier Sopra stand out for me. After New Year I will knit the Dust of Snow wrap from Helen Stewart with the one from Crealien Designs one. I also like the quilt fabric very much.

Happy birthday and Merry Christmas

Vandaag op 1e kerstdag wordt deze knappe jongen 1 jaar. Hij zit nog steeds vol kattenkwaad en sloopt alles wat hij tegen komt. Mees gefeliciteerd !

This handsome boy turns 1 today on Christmas Day. He is still full of mischief and destroys everything he comes across. Congratulations Mees!

Vandaag mocht ik ook nog een paar pakjes open maken. Als eerste  nog een strengetje van Crealien Design.

Dan had ik nog een volle 100 grams streng van Little Bishes Stitches voor kerstdag die Merry and Bright heet. Ze had er ook een mini streng bij gedaan.

Vanmiddag gaan we naar mijn dochter en haar partner en onze kleindochters Lana en Loïs en we gaan daar een heerlijke Engelse Sunday Roast eten.
Morgen gaan we eten bij mijn zoon, schoondochter en kleindochter Yara.
Het is voor het eerst dat wij beide kerstdagen ergens anders gaan eten. Op zich vind ik dit wel heerlijk omdat ik zelf nog steeds niet goed uit de voeten kan, hoewel de covid revaladatie steeds beter gaat als ook de oedeem therapie. Het probleem zit hem nog steeds in de zenuwen van mijn benen die verkeerde info naar de hersenen doorgeven en ik daardoor vaak mijn evenwicht niet kan houden. Maar ook dit komt wel goed !

Wij wensen iedereen hele fijne feestdagen.

This afternoon we are going to visit my daughter and her partner and our granddaughters Lana and Loïs and eat a delicious English Sunday Roast with them.
Tomorrow we will have dinner at my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter Yara house.
It is the first time that we eat somewhere else on both Christmas days. In itself I think this is wonderful because I still have trouble with walking, although the covid rehab is getting better and better as well as the edema therapy. The problem is still in the nerves of my legs that transmit wrong information to the brain and because of that I often can't keep my balance. But this too will be fine someday!

Advent day 24

 Vandaag op kerstavond maak ik weer pasteitjes met zelfgemaakte championragout. Deze traditie heb ik van mijn moeder overgenomen en een kerstavond zonder dit pasteitje is voor ons geen kerstavond.

Today on Christmas Eve I'm making pies again with homemade champion ragout (I don't know how this is called in English but i will post a picture at the end of this post). I inherited this tradition from my mother and a Christmas Eve without this pie is not Christmas Eve for us.

De datum weet ik nog goed, want dat was de dag dat mijn dochter met haar gezin terug naar Nederland verhuiste vanuit Engeland. Links staan mijn zoon en schoondochter met Lana (dochter van mijn dochter), in het midden Michiel en ik en rechts mijn dochter en haar partner met op haar armen Yara (dochter van mijn zoon).

I remember the date well, because that was the day my daughter and her family moved back to the Netherlands from England. Ik moet nog een kleine stukje van sok 2 en dan zijn mijn sokken klaar. Foto volgt na de kerstdagen. Voor mijn Christmas Eve cast-on ga ik vanavond deze kerst streng gebruiken die ik bij de advent kalender van Crealien mee besteld had. Het patroontje Merry and Bright dat ik ga breien is er een die Kay van de Bakery Bears voor ons tekende van de week.
Morgen mag ik nog 3 pakjes open maken en dan zijn alle advent kalenders leeg. Foto met de inhoud van mijn garenkalenders volgt ook na de feestdagen. Ik wens iedereen een hele fijne kerstavond.

I still need to knit a small piece of sock 2 and then my socks are ready. Photo will follow after Christmas. For my Christmas Eve cast-on, I'm going to use this Christmas skein tonight that I ordered with Crealien's advent calendar. The Merry and Bright pattern I'm going to knit is one that Kay from the Bakery Bears drew for us this week.
Tomorrow I can open 3 more packages and then all advent calendars will be empty. Photo of my content of the yarn calendars will follow after the holidays. I wish everyone a merry Christmas Eve.

 

Advent day 23

 Gisteren kwam vriendin Francien gezellig een middagje handwerken. Ze wilde graag weten hoe een projecttasje werd gemaakt, dus daar zijn we mee bezig geweest.

Yesterday friend Francien came over for an afternoon of sewing. She wanted to know how a project bag was made, so we worked on that.

Deel 10 heet Butter making (boter maken).
In de winter is de boter niet zo geel als in de zomer en daarom "kleurt" ma de boter in de koude maanden. Pa maakt voor haar een rasp waar ze een wortel op kan raspen, omdat deze gebruikt wordt om de boter te kleuren. De geraspte wortel wordt samen met de melk verwarmt en daarna door een doek gezeeft zodat de wortel achter blijft en de gele melk opgevangen wordt om daar boter van te maken. De zachte wortel rasp vinden Mary en Laura een lekkernij.

Part 10 is called Butter making.
In the winter the butter is not as yellow as in the summer and therefore ma "colors" the butter in the cold months. Dad makes her a grater that she can grate a carrot on, because it is used to color the butter. The grated carrot is heated together with the milk and then sieved through a cloth so that the carrot remains behind and the yellow milk is collected to make butter. Mary and Laura find the soft carrot grater a delicacy.

Advent day 21

 Bij december hoort ook elk jaar het WK darten dat in het Alexandra Palace in Londen wordt gespeeld. Inmiddels zijn er al een paar Nederlanders door naar een volgende ronde. Elke avond zitten Michiel en ik samen de wedstrijden te bekijken onder het genot van een kop heerlijke thee of een mok chocolademelk (uiteraard met marshmallows en toefje slagroom bestrooit met cacao).

Every year December also includes the World Darts Championship that is played at the Alexandra Palace in London. A few Dutchmen have already advanced to the next round. Every evening Michiel and I watch the matches together while enjoying a cup of delicious tea or a mug of chocolate (of course with marshmallows and whipped cream sprinkled with cocoa).

Gisteren kwam ook mijn Opal ABO weer binnen. Mijn 8e zending alweer. Ik ben met dit abonnement begonnen in maart 2020. Ook dit keer zijn de kleuren weer zo mooi en vanwege kerst kregen we er een gratis streng bij.

 Yesterday my Opal ABO came in again. My 8th shipment already. I started this subscription in March 2020. Also this time the colors are so beautiful and because of Christmas we got a free skein.

Dit keer had ik ook 4 uni kleuren erbij besteld, ze kunnen dan in dezelfde doos verpakt worden en je betaald geen extra verzendkosten.

This time I also ordered 4 uni colors, they can then be packed in the same box and you do not pay extra shipping costs.

Ik blijf vragen krijgen over wat het Opal abonnement is. In het kort: Je krijgt 4 keer per jaar (in maart, mei, septenmber en december) 6 bollen die alleen voor het abonnement gemaakt zijn. Het kan zijn dat na lange tijd een bepaalde kleur in het assortiment opgenomen wordt als daar veel vraag naar is. Je abonnement loopt gewoon door tot je het per email opzegt. Je kunt alleen per bankoverschrijving betalen en niet met paypal. Omdat ik indertijd wat vragen hierover had, heb ik me ook aangemeld per email en niet via de website. Je kunt ze in het Duits of Engels mailen. Ik weet niet naar welke landen ze allemaal verzenden, in elk geval niet naar Amerika. Geen idee of ze naar Engeland versturen. I keep getting questions about what the Opal subscription is. In short: 4 times a year (in March, May, September and December) you will receive 6 balls made only for the subscription. It may be that a certain color is included in the range after a long time if there is a lot of demand for it. Your subscription will continue until you cancel it by email. You can only pay by bank transfer and not with paypal. Because I had some questions about this at the time, I also registered by email and not via the website. Advent day 20

 Ik hoor net dat allen uit 1962 nu de booster kunnen gaan halen. Hoera dacht ik, maar toen ik de afspraak wilde maken, kreeg ik te zien dat, als je in de afgelopen 3 maanden positief getest bent, je 3 maanden moet wachten.  Dat betekent dat ik dus pas na 28 januari mijn booster mag krijgen. Echt balen !

I just heard that all from 1962 can now get the booster. Hooray I thought, but when I wanted to make the appointment, I saw that if you have tested positive in the past 3 months, you have to wait 3 months. That means I can only get my booster after January 28th.

Vandaag achter het raampje van de kalender gekregen van mijn petekind Amy een foto die gemaakt is in februari van dit jaar. We hadden Mees toen net in huis met zijn 8 weken oud en aanstaande zaterdag wordt hij al 1 jaar.

Deel 8 van de sokken is nu ook af en heet Dance at Grandpa's.
Ze komen allemaal bij elkaar in opa's huis met hun mooiste kleren aan, want er wordt volop gedanst op de muziek die onder andere gemaakt wordt door de pa van Mary en Laura die op zijn viool speelt.

Part 8 of the socks are finished and is called Dance at Grandpa's.
They all come together at Grandpa's house in their best clothes, because there is plenty of dancing to the music, among others, made by Mary and Laura's dad,  who plays his violin.

Het patroontje stelt het op en neer gaan van de rokken voor, van de vrouwen die allemaal aan het dansen zijn.

The pattern represents the swirling of the skirts of the women who are all dancing.
