Op 1 oktober begon Sockoween (dat betekent halloween kleuren en/of halloween patroon), georganiseerd door de Bakerybears. Ik ging de Wizardy sokken van Kay Jones breien in de hoofdkleur Whimsical Cookies van Het Wolbeest . De contrastkleuren waren van Wolmetverve (oranje en groen) en Het wolbeest (paars).

Sockoween (which means Halloween colors and/or Halloween pattern) started on October 1, organized by the Bakerybears. I was going to knit the Wizardy socks from Kay Jones in the main color Whimsical Cookies from Het wolbeest. The contrast colors were from Wolmetverve (orange and green) and @Het wolbeest (purple).
Op 4 oktober kwam de 3e zending van mijn Opal abonnement van 2023 (4x per jaar 6 bollen) binnen en de kleuren waren dit keer weer prachtig.
On October 4 the third shipment of my Opal subscription of 2023 (4 x a year 6 balls) arrived and the colors are so beautiful this time.
7 oktober zijn Michiel en ik naar de Dag van de wol geweest in Boxtel. Verdeelt over 2 hallen was er genoeg te zien. Ik kocht een mooie streng bij Het wolbeest en bij Badcattooyarn, 4 strengen bij Wat wollie (ik kon echt geen keus maken), een zauberball bij Thedutchcottage en een klein etuitje van Emma Ball bij trollenwol.
October 7 Michiel and I went to Wool Day in Boxtel. Divided over 2 halls, there was plenty to see. I bought a beautiful skein from Het wolbeest and Badcattooyarn, 4 skeins from Wat wollie (I really couldn't make a choice), a zauberball from Thedutchcottage and a small notion pouch from Emma Ball at trollenwol.
Op 8 oktober zijn we wezen midgetgolfen (ik verloor weer), daarna eventjes op bezoek bij de kleindochters en daarna heerlijk gegeten bij Horeca Heidehof. Inmiddels is ook mijn 1e Wizardy sok voor Sockoween is af.
On October 8 we went to play mini golf (I lost again), then visited the granddaughters for a while and then we had a delicious meal at Horeca Heidehof. My first Wizardy sock for Sockoween is now also finished. Will cast on my second sock tomorrow, today it's the rainbow sampler's turn.

Op 13 oktober waren we net in het ziekenhuis in Maastricht toen we te horen kregen dat de afspraak verzet was naar 's middags omdat de professor een spoedoperatie had.
De professor vertelde me 's middags dat uit de mri scan blijkt dat het restant tumor dat er nog zit, zich netjes heeft gedragen en niet veranderd is tegenover vorig jaar. Goed nieuws dus.
De knobbel op de ruggenwervel die me elke dag een zeurige pijn bezorgd, blijkt de schroef te zijn die het plaatwerk op zijn plaats houdt, daar waar de 3 ruggenwervels zijn verwijderd. Helaas is hier niets aan te doen en zal zo blijven.
On October 13 we were just at the hospital in Maastricht when we were told that the appointment had been moved to the afternoon because the professor had an emergency surgery.
The professor told me in the afternoon that the MRI scan shows that the remainder of the tumor that is still there has behaved properly and has not changed compared to last year. So that was good news.
The lump on the vertebra that gives me a nagging pain every day turns out to be the screw that holds the sheet metal in place where the 3 vertebrae were removed. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about this and it will remain that way.
Ook de andere beperkingen, zoals niet te lang rechtop kunnen zitten of staan, pijn aan schouders bij iets optillen, duwen, trekken of rekken, zal zo blijven, maar dat vermoeden had ik al.
Langer lopen dan 5 min gebeurd al met de rollator en dat gaat uitstekend. Hij vroeg me zelfs nog of ik problemen had met breien. Neehoor dokter, dat lukt gelukkig goed.
Volgend jaar hoef ik pas weer in de mri scan. Flink kunnen breien aan een sok vandaag.
The other defects, such as not being able to sit or stand upright for too long, pain in the shoulders when lifting, pushing, pulling or stretching something, will unfortunately remain the same, but I already suspected that. Op 21 oktober ontving ik de sokset die ik gewonnen had bij de Selfstripingkal van de Bakery Bears afgelopen maand. De kleuren zijn echt schitterend.

Op 25 oktober gaven we de laatste les van de workshop Sokken Breien op de rondbreinaald bij Tante Tuttebol. Er was weer hard gewerkt (en gelachen) en de dames hadden allemaal hun sok af op het einde.

26 oktober: Mijn Wizardy sokken voor Sockoween waren af. Wat een leuk patroon om te breien was dit.

Op 30 oktober had ik mijn pakket voor de #dutchadventswap2023 weggebracht, want ook dit jaar doe ik weer mee. Ik had er vorig jaar van genoten. Er zit 20 x 10 gram sokkenwol in en 4 andere cadeautjes.
On October 30, I dropped off my package for the #dutchadventswap2023, because I am participating again this year. I enjoyed it last year. It contains 20 x 10 grams of sock wool and 4 other gifts.
31 oktober hadden we een Beiproeverij met High Tea bij Tante Tuttebol. Een tafel vol bollen met mooie wintercollectie van Katiayarns en Langyarns. Wat veel bollen om uit te proberen! In het begin even de draai, slag of steek vinden maar eenmaal gaande werd er flink op los gebreid en gehaakt.
On October 31 we had a Knit tasting with High Tea at Tante Tuttebol. A table full of yarn from the new beautiful winter collection from Katiayarns and Langyarns. So many balls to try out! In the beginning it took some time to find the one you wanted to try, but once started, there was a lot of knitting and crocheting.
Een tafel vol heerlijke theeën en heerlijke hapjes, hartig, zoet, chocolade, de High Tea werd verzorgt door Wendy van Ut muueletentje. Het was een heel geslaagde avond.

In een reactie bij mijn vorige post vraagt een zekere Petra of het niet eentonig is om alleen maar sokken te breien. Mijn antwoord daarop is NEE in hoofdletters. Het blijft enorm leuk en ik draag ze allemaal.
Bovendien doe ik ook andere dingen tussendoor, zoals haken en aan een deken of sjaal breien.
In a response to my previous post, a certain Petra asks whether it is not monotonous to only knit socks. My answer to that is NO in capital letters. It's still great fun and I wear them all.
I also do other things in between, such as crocheting and knitting a blanket or shawls.
