The Sunlight of Solstice shawl

Wat is dit een ontzettend fijn patroon om te breien. Dit is de tweede keer dat ik deze sjaal heb gebreid. Begonnen op 3 januari en af op 30 januari.

This is such a wonderful pattern to knit. This is the second time that I knit this shawl. I started it on January 3 and finished it on January 30.

Yarn: Merino single (color Grey-Pink)
(100% Extrafine merino)
Skein is 100 gr. (400 m/437 yards) - Used 86 grams = 344 m/376 yards
Circular needle 3.5 mm (US 4)

The Sunlight of Solstice sjaal is gebreid met een merino single. De streng heeft geen kleur naam maar is grijs-roze en is van Ratty Yarns, tegenwoordig bekend als @amimonology op Instagram.

The Sunlight of Solstice shawl is knit with a merino single. The skein has no color name but it is grey-pink and it is from ratty Yarns, nowadays know as @amimonology on Instagram.

Het patroon ziet er misschien moeilijk uit, maar in werkelijkheid is het best een makkelijk patroon om te breien.

Although the pattern looks maybe a bit different, it is really a easy pattern to knit.

De sjaal is gebreid op naald 3.5  en hij is 175 x 30 cm.

The shawl is knitted on needle 3.5 (US 4) and it's 175 x 30 cm.

Mijn blogbericht over de reis naar Engeland komt er binnenkort aan. Ik heb de laatste weken dat ik weer thuis was heel erg rustig aan gedaan, omdat direct na thuiskomst ik enorm last kreeg van de fibromyalgie. Ik was zo moe en ik heb niets gedaan dan films gekeken en wat gebreid. Tot nu toe heb ik nog geen fut gehad om alle foto's die ik daar gemaakt heb door te kijken.

My blog post about the trip to England is coming soon. The last few weeks that I was home again, I took it very easy, because immediately after returning home I was suffering from fibromyalgia. I was so tired and I did nothing but watch movies and knit. So far I have not had the energy to look through all the photos I have taken there.

 

Ik kan ondertussen wel mijn breiwerkjes laten zien. Begin januari was ik begonnen met The Sunlight of Solstice sjaal van The small bird workshop. Ik heb deze al eens gemaakt en het is een geweldig patroon om te breien.

In the meantime I can show you my knitting projects. I started The Sunlight of Solstice shawl from The smallbirdworkshop at the beginning of January. I already made this shawl before and the pattern is a delight to knit.

Het garen is van Ratty yarns, maar na verandering van naam, is het nu @amimonology op Instagram. Ik kreeg de sjaal af op 30 januari, maar ik moet er nog foto's van maken.

The yarn is from Ratty yarns, but after changing her name she is now called @amimonology on Instagram. I finished the shawl on January 30, but still have to make pictures.

Twee dagen geleden kwam ook mijn januari wolletje van de Warme Voeten club van Atelier Het Wolbeest binnen. Thema dit jaar is Beatrix Potter. Erbij zat weer een mini streng, thee en een stukje caramel. Ook 2 stitchmarkers ( een theekopje en een iced bun van Chapel view crafts). Deze maand is het Mrs. Tiggy Winkle.

Two days ago I recieved my January yarn from the Warme Voetenclub (warm feet club) from Atelier Het Wolbeest. Theme this year is Beatrix Potter. Also included is a mini skein, tea and some caramel and 2 stitchmarkers (a teacup and a iced bun from Chapel view crafts ). This month it is Mrs. Tiggy Winkle.

En op 1 februari kon ik ook mijn 3e maand wolletje open maken van Schitbotgarne.

On February 1 I also could open my 3th month package from Schitbotgarne.

En op 1 januari vergat ik helemaal het 2e maand wolletje te laten zien.

On January 1 I totaly forgot to show you the second month package.

Een paar dagen geleden ben ik ook begonnen met de Bits and bobs cowl van Kay Jones van de Bakery Bears. Een zeer verslavend patroon om te breien. Let niet op de rode draad, dat is mijn lifeline (voor het geval je verkeerd breid en dan is het makkelijk steken oppakken vanaf de rode draad). 

A few days ago I started with the  Bits and bobs cowl from Kay Jones from the Bakery Bears. A very addicted pattern to knit. Don't pay attention to the red yarn, that is my lifeline.

Het garen is een sokkenlap van Joyance fibre arts die ik al een hele tijd in mijn voorraad had. Ik heb de sokkenlap opgedraaid tot een cake, dat vind ik iets prettiger werken.

I'm using a sock blank from Joyance fibre arts that I had in my stash for quite some time. I turned the sock blank into a cake, which is a bit more pleasant to work with.

The Sunlight of Solstice - The Small Bird Workshop

Yarn: Fino from Manos del Uruguay (color 419 Brass Button)

(70% merino - 30% silk)

Skein is 100 gr. (450 m/490 yards) - Used 340 m/372 yards

Circular needle 4 mm (US 6)

The Sunlight of Solstice is gebreid met Fino van Manos del Uruguay in de kleur Brass Button (419). Het garen is een mengeling van merino wol en zijde.

The Sunlight of Solstice is knit with Fino from Manos del Uruguay in the color Brass Button (419). The yarn is a mixture of merino wool and silk.

Heerlijk garen om mee te werken en het is echt super zacht. Ik kocht deze streng bij Het Breipunt (klik).

Delightful yarn to knit with and it feels so super soft. I bought this skein at Het Breipunt (click).

De streng was 100 gram (450 meter) en ik had nog 24 gram over. Dat betekent dat er 340 meter in de sjaal zit.

The skein was 100 gram (490 yards) and I had 24 gram left over. That means that I used 372 yards in this shawl.

De sjaal is gebreid op naald 4 (opzet met naald 4.5) en hij is 170 x 40 cm.

The shawl is knitted on needle US 6 (begin rows on US 7) and it's 170 x 40 cm.

Mijn super model vindt hem ook heerlijk zacht ;-)

The sun is shining

Gisteren was het een prachtdag, de zon scheen heerlijk en het was genieten in de tuin.

Yesterday we had a wonderful day, the sun was shining and we enjoyed being in our garden.

Verschillende planten bloeien al, maar het meest geniet ik nog van de kleine viooltjes die zomaar op verschillende plaatsen in de tuin te voorschijn komen.

Several plants are already blooming, but the most I enjoy those little violets, that pop-up on many places in the garden.

Dan nu een korte uitleg over de zonnewende:
De zonnewende  is de gebeurtenis waarbij de zon, gezien vanaf de aarde, de noordelijkste of zuidelijkste positie bereikt. Naarmate de zon schijnbaar in de richting van de Kreeftskeerkring beweegt, worden de dagen op het noordelijk halfrond langer en op het zuidelijk halfrond juist korter. Wanneer de zon schijnbaar naar de Steenbokskeerkring beweegt, is dit andersom.
De zonnewende is het moment waarop de zon precies boven de betreffende keerkring staat. Er kunnen een zomerwende en een winterwende worden onderscheiden. Op het noordelijk halfrond vinden ze respectievelijk plaats in juni (meestal 21 juni) en in december (meestal 21 december), op het zuidelijk halfrond is dat andersom.

Then now a brief explanation of the solstice:
The solstice is the event where the sun, seen from the earth, reaches the northernmost or southernmost position. As the sun is moving towards the Tropic of Cancer, the days on the northern hemisphere become longer and on the southern hemisphere are shorter. When the sun moves apparently to the Tropic of Capricorn, this is the other way.
The solstice is the moment when the sun is exactly above the tropics. There is be a summer and winter solstice. In the northern hemisphere they occur in June (usually June 21) and in December (usually December 21), in the southern hemisphere, that is the other way around.

Waarom deze uitleg? Omdat Catherine Knutsson van The Small Bird Workshop, The Sunlight of Solstice (Het zonlicht van de zonnewende) KAL organiseerd op Ravelry (klik om naar het patroon te gaan).  Ik had nog een streng Fino van Manos del Uruguay liggen met een gouden kleur die er perfect voor was.

Why this explanation? Because Catherine Knutsson from The Small Bird Workshop, The Sunlight of Solstice is running as a KAL on Ravelry (click to go to the pattern). I had still a skein Fino from Manos del Uruguay in my stash with a golden color and I thought that would be perfect for it.

Inmiddels is het eerste stuk al gebreid en het gaat lekker. Ik vind het altijd heerlijk om een ajour patroon te breien.

I already have knit a piece and it is going well. I always enjoy knitting a lace pattern.
