Terug naar het gewone leven, alle kerstspullen zijn weer verdwenen naar zolder en mijn beren staan weer op hun eigen plaats. 

Back to normal life, all Christmas things have disappeared to the attic and my bears are back in their own place.

Gisteren ook weer controle bij de longarts gehad en na de uitgebreide blaastest zag ze dat mijn longen toch weer iets achteruit gegaan zijn. Schijnbaar pakt mijn huidige inhalator toch niet voldoende mijn kortademigheid aan. De benauwdheid blijft er goed mee weg, maar de longarts kan maar niet verklaren waarom ik wel last van kortademigheid blijf houden. 

Yesterday I also had check-up at the lung doctor and after the extensive breath test she saw that my lungs had deteriorated. Apparently, my current inhaler does not sufficiently take my shortness of breath away. For the tightness the inhaler is good, but the lung doctor can not explain why I still continue to suffer from shortness of breath.

Röntgen foto's en allerlei scans wijzen geen bijzonderheden aan en zien er goed uit. Ze heeft me nu voor 1 week prednisolon voorgeschreven om te zien of dit wat voor me doet. Aankomende vrijdagavond belt ze me op om te horen of ik er resultaat mee heb.

X-rays and all sorts of scans show no details and look good. She has now prescribed prednisolone for 1 week to see if this does anything for me. Upcoming Friday evening she calls me to hear if I have any result.

Dit alles betekend niet dat ik stil blijf zitten hoor, want er zijn genoeg dingen die ik wel nog gewoon kan doen. Er gaat ook steeds een breiwerk mee als ik controles heb in het ziekenhuis 😀. Gisteren was het de Selago Sunset sjaal die ik donderdag was begonnen.

All of this does not mean that I will sit still, because there are plenty of things that I can still do. There is always a knitting with me, when I have checks in the hospital 😀. Yesterday it was the Selago Sunset shawl that I started on Thursday.

Het garen (van Cowgirlblues) en patroon zijn van de 3e levering van 2018 van de Strickmich Club (klik) van Martina Behm, dus de hoogste tijd om deze eerst te breien, aangezien in februari weer de 1e aflevering van dit jaar komt. Dit is het 3e jaar dat ik met haar club mee doe en ik geniet er nog steeds van om op die manier ook nieuwe garens te ontdekken.

The yarn (from Cowgirlblues) and pattern are from the 3rd delivery from 2018 of the Strickmich Club (click) from Martina Behm, so it is high time to knit this first, since in February the 1st shipment of this year is coming. This is the 3rd year that I participate with her club and I still enjoy to discover new yarns that way.

De "When de frost is on the pumpkin" quilt gaat ook lekker. Alle diagonale lijnen van linksboven naar rechtsonder heb ik afgekregen. Nu moet ik ze allemaal nog in tegenovergestelde richting maken.

The "When the frost is on the pumpkin" quilt is going very good. I have obtained all diagonal lines from the top left to the bottom right. Now I have to make them all in the opposite direction.

Afgelopen jaar had ik de eerste twee delen gelezen van Tricia Goyer en Sherry Gore uit de serie "De taartenwinkel van Pinecraft", die zich afspeelt in en om de taartenwinkel "Eigen taart is goud waard".

 Last year I had read the first two books of Tricia Goyer and Sherry Gore from the series "Pinecraft Pie Shop", which takes place in and around the cake shop "Me, Myself, and Pie shop".

Ik was dan ook blij verrast dat ik afgelopen week het derde deel zag liggen in onze bibliotheek. Het boek wat ik op dit moment aan het lezen was, ging even aan de kant, want ik wil eerst dit boek nu lezen.

I was therefore pleasantly surprised that last week I saw the third part in our library. The book that I was reading at the moment went aside for a while, because I want to read this book first.

Het afgelopen jaar had ik de laatste 3 maanden van het jaar, elke betreffende maand de Warme Voeten Club van Het Wolbeest (klik) gekocht. Ik weet niet of ik ze heb laten zien maar het waren deze:

Dit jaar gaat ze ook weer elke maand een wolletje verven voor de Warme Voeten Club, maar nu kun je zelfs kiezen uit 2 series; de Blue Planet (met de wat wilde felle kleuren) of Impressions of Nature (met de rustige tinten). Ik heb gekozen voor de laatste en gisteren kwam het wolletje van januari binnen en het is me toch super mooi 😍

This year she is also going to dye a wool for the Warm Feet Club every month, but now you can even choose from 2 series; the Blue Planet (with the wild bright colors) or Impressions of Nature (with the calm tones). I have chosen the last one and yesterday the wool from January came in and it is again so beautiful 😍

Ik gebruik deze garens trouwens niet voor sokken maar om sjaals mee te breien, want de wolletjes zijn heerlijk zacht. Bowy maakt zich er in elk geval niet druk om, want die slaapt gewoon heerlijk door.

I do not use these yarns for socks, but to knit scarves and shawls, because the wool is wonderful soft. Bowy does not worry about it, because he just sleeps nicely.

 

Some quilting and a tea review

En wie heeft er allemaal goede voornemens voor het nieuwe jaar? Ik doe er niet echt aan mee, want ik weet al bij voorbaat dat het na een paar weken/maanden helemaal inzakt met de goede voornemens 😀. Ik zeg altijd gewoon ... ik ga het proberen en als het niet lukt, pech dan.

Wat ik dit jaar dus ga proberen (en als het niet lukt, pech dan) is om wat quilt toppen doorgequilt te krijgen, zodat ze daarna ook helemaal af zijn  en gebruikt kunnen worden. Ik begon in december al met de "When de frost is on the pumpkin" en deze gaat lekker. De pompoenen zijn rondom doorgequilt en ik ben nu bezig om de achtergrond door te quilten met een ruit patroon.

And who has good intentions for the new year? I do not really participate, because I already know in advance that after a few weeks / months it completely collapses with the good intentions 😀. I always just say ... I'm going to try and if it does not work out, too bad.
What I'm going to try this year (and if it does not work, too bad) is to get some quilt tops quilted, so that they are completely finished and can be used afterwards. I started in December with the "When the frost is on the pumpkin" and this goes wonderful. The quilting around the pumpkins is done and I am now working on quilting the background with a diamond pattern.

Voor de markering gebruik ik altijd mijn Hera-marker voor Applique & Sewing van Clover. Ik leg mijn liniaal neer waar ik een lijn wil en dan maak ik een "streep" met mijn Hera-marker. Geen potlood of iets anders nodig.  Ik denk dat dit een van de meest gebruikte tools van me is.

For the marking I always use my Hera marker for Applique & Sewing from Clover. I put my ruler were I want a line and then I make a "stripe" with my Hera marker. No pencil or anything else needed. I think this is one of the most used tools of mine.

Ik wil dit weekend ook weer verder gaan met mijn Advent sjaal, want ik heb in 2019 nog geen steek gebreid. Het doorquilten gaat nu zo lekker doordat ik geen last van mijn handen heb en dan maak ik daar dankbaar gebruik van.

I also want to go further this weekend with my Advent scarf, because I did not knit yet in 2019. The quilting is going so good because  my hands don't hurt at this time and then I make grateful use of it.

Ook krijg ik wel eens vragen over de theesoorten die ik drink, zoals "Is die lekker?" en "Waar koop je die?". Daarom heb ik besloten om af en toe eens een thee beoordeling te doen.  Dit kan zijn van een Nederlandse theesoort, maar ook van een buitenlandse theesoort, losse thee of theezakjes etc.

Ik gebruik voor het zetten van mijn thee altijd gewoon kraanwater dat ik in de fluitketel doe en daarna aan de kook breng. Als het theewater minder warm moet zijn, dan gebruik ik een vloeistof temperatuurmeter, zodat ik kan zien wanneer het water de juiste temperatuur heeft. Voor de hoeveelheid thee gebruik ik of mijn theeschepje of mijn digitale weegschaal die tot 0.00 gram gaat en dus heel precies weegt. 

Verder gebruik ik een digitale kookwekker, zodat ik weet wanneer ik de thee uit het water kan nemen. Voor de meeste klinkt dit enorm veel werk, maar als je het eenmaal gewend bent om de thee precies zo te zetten als aangeraden wordt, dan pas kom je er achter hoe lekker thee kan zijn 😁

 

I also get questions about the teas I drink, like "Is that tasty?" and "Where do you buy that?". That is why I decided to do a tea review once in a while. This can be from a Dutch tea variety, but also from a foreign tea variety, loose tea or tea bags etc.

I  always use normal tap water in my kettle for my tea and then bring it to a boil. If the water needs to be less warm, I use a liquid temperature meter, so that I can see when the water has the right temperature. For the amount of tea, I use my tea spoon or my digital scale that goes to 0.00 grams and therefore weighs very precisely.
Furthermore, I use a digital kitchen timer, so I know when I can take the tea out of the water. For most this sounds a lot of work, but once you're used to making the tea exactly as recommended, then you'll find out how good tea can be 😁

Als eerste de "Knibbel Knabbel Knuisje" thee. Dit is een vruchtenthee van Kaldi (klik) met de smaak van geroosterde amandelen. 

Ingrediënten: Appel, krokante stukjes ananas en papaya, rode kool, kaneel, natuurlijk aroma, rozijnen, kokos, geroosterde amandelen en popcorn.

First the "Knibbel Knabbel Knuisje" tea. This is a fruit tea from Kaldi (click, you can change the language in the right corner) with the flavor of roasted almonds.
Ingredients: Apple, crunchy pieces of pineapple and papaya, red cabbage, cinnamon, natural flavor, raisins, coconut, roasted almonds and popcorn.

Ik vind dit een heerlijke thee die de smaak heeft van geroosterde amandelen gecombineerd met warm appelgebak. Het geeft je een "thuis" gevoel.

Voor mijn grote theemok van 0.5 liter gebruik ik iets meer dan 3 theeschepjes waarop ik kokend water schenk en laat de thee 10 minuten trekken. Van mij krijgt deze thee een 8.5

I find this a delicious tea that has the taste of roasted almonds combined with warm apple pie. It gives you a "home" feeling.
For my large 0.5 liter tea mug I use just over 3 teaspoons on which I pour boiling water and let the tea infuse for 10 minutes. From me this tea gets a 8.5 

Diary September 9 - September 26

Het lijkt wel of de dagen voorbij vliegen. Ik dacht dat ik pas een blogje geschreven had maar dit blijkt alweer 2 1/2 week geleden te zijn. 

9 September: Bij al die garen advent kalenders die in december komen, mag een heerlijke thee advent kalender van Your daily teacup (klik) niet ontbreken, dus die is inmiddels ook besteld. Tot 1 oktober nog met korting te bestellen ;-)

It seems the days are flying away. I thought I had write recently a blog post but it is already 2 1/2 weeks ago. 

September 9: With all the yarn advent calendars that are coming in December, I also decided to order a  tea advent calendar from the Dutch shop Your daily teacup (click). 

Vanmiddag zijn we naar een plaatselijke pompoenmarkt geweest en daar hebben wij een aantal Hokkaido pompoenen voor de soep gehaald en een Butterscotch pompoen die ik gebruik om een cake mee te bakken. Ik maak de pompoensoep volgens eigen recept, HIER (klik) te vinden.

This afternoon we went to a local pumpkin market and we bought some Hokkaido pumkins for making soup and a Butterscotch pumpkin to bake a cake. I always make the pumpkinsoup following my own recipe, you can find it HERE (click).

12 September: Mijn dochter bracht me een super leuk cadeautje mee uit Engeland, ze weet wel waar haar moeder helemaal weg van is. Harry Potter natuurlijk.

September 12: My daughter had her vacation in England and brought me a wonderful present, she knows what her mother like. Everything from Harry Potter.

13 September: Deze quilt ligt al bijna 5 jaar te wachten om door gequilt te worden, When the frost is on the pumpkin, uit het boek Country quilts for friends van Margaret Peters en Anne Sutton. Ik ben er eindelijk aan begonnen. Ik probeer er elke week eventjes aan te werken.

September 13: This quilt has been waiting for almost 5 years to be quilted, When the frost is on the pumpkin, from the book Country quilts for friends by Margaret Peters and Anne Sutton. I finally started and hope to quilt on it each week a bit.

Tot slot had ik ook nog bij Chapel View Crafts (klik) een mini advent kalender besteld. Ze maakt prachtige stitch markers and progress keepers (steek markeerders en voortgangs markeerders). De mini kalender houdt in dat er 15 items in zitten verspreid over 12 dagen. Ik maak dus om de andere dag een pakje open. Je kon ook het onderwerp kiezen: cakes, kerst of een mix van beide. Ik koos voor de laatste ;-)

I also ordered a mini advent calendar at Chapel View Crafts (click). She makes such beautiful stitch markers and progress keepers. The mini advent calendar means: 15 items all together included in the calendar spread over 12 days. So I open a package every other day. You could choose: cakes, christmas or a mix of both. I choose the last one ;-)
 

14 September: De eerste garen advent kalender is binnen gekomen. Deze is van The yarn lab UK met thema Harry Potter. Nu wachten tot 1 december en ik mag het eerste pakje open maken.

September 14: The yarn advent calendar arrived. This one is from The yarn lab Uk with theme Harry Potter. Now I have to wait till it is december 1 and I can open the first package. 

15 September: Sectie 4 van de Goldfish Memory sjaal van Casapinka is bijna klaar. De 3 mooie kleuren blauw zijn van Marianthi yarns in de kleuren Dark denim, Stone washed and Melting snow. Ik vind ze toch zo geweldig mooi.

September 15: I'm almost done with section 4 of the Goldfish Memory shawl from Casapinka. The 3 beautiful blue colors are from Marianthi yarns in the colors Dark denim, Stone washed and Melting snow. I love these so much.

16 September: Vandaag was het Americana Village in ons dorp. Er was heel veel te zien. Speciaal voor mijn zoon Niels een paar foto's gemaakt omdat hij zelf niet kon gaan.

September 16: Today it was Americana Village in our village. There was a lot to see. I made a few pictures for my son because he couldn't go himself.

20 September: Vandaag druk bezig met blok 2 van de Carousel quilt van Ellie's Quiltplace.

22 September: Mijn blok 2 was gisteren al klaar en inmiddels ben ik met de vliegende gansjes bezig die rondom komen.

September 22: My block 2 was ready yesterday and I'm already busy with the flying geese that come around.

25 September: Tussendoor steeds druk bezig om al de pompoenen door te quilten.

September 25: In between all other things I'm still busy with quilting all those pumpkins. 

26 September: Vanmiddag in ons dorp naar de quiltclub in de Gunnerij geweest en volop sterretjes zitten tekenen en knippen voor mijn Pippi Langkous sterrenquilt. Tijd om weer eens een aantal sterren te maken voor deze quilt.

September 26: This afternoon I went to my quiltclub in our village and I was busy with drawing an cutting out pieces for making more stars for my Pippi Longstocking Stars quilt. Time to sew a few more stars and attach it to the quilt.

Quilting the pumpkins

Nadat ik de smalle border eraan gezet had, was het tijd voor de laatste brede border. Ook deze stond er snel aan. De borders, heb ik net als de rest van de quilt, er met de hand aangezet. De quilt top heb ik niet gestreken, vandaar dat het lijkt of de rand er gehobbeld aan staat

After I sewed the narrow border, it was time for the last slightly wider border. It was sewed in no time. All the borders I have, just as the hole quilt, sewed by hand. I didn't iron the quilt top, so it looks if the last border is not flat.

Voor de achterkant had ik nog een extra brede okergele stof liggen, die er heel mooi bij past.

For the back I had in my stash an extra wide ochre fabric lying that fits perfectly.

Tijd om de quilt gaan te dubbelen. Voor het eerst heb ik dat met de latten methode gedaan en ik moet zeggen dat me dat uitstekend bevallen is.

Time to baste the quilt. For the first time I did it the same way as Sharon Schamber shows in this film and I realy liked doing it this way.

In ruim anderhalf uur had ik zittend en zonder rugpijn, de hele quilt gedubbeld !!

In over a hour and a half I had, sitting and without backpain, the whole quilt basted !!

En toen mocht ik aan het leukste deel beginnen ... het doorquilten !! Ik ga eerst rondom alle pompoenen quilten en ook direct naast de geborduurde lijnen in de pompoen, zodat daar diepte in komt. De rest van de achtergrond wil ik daarna met een all-over patroon doorquilten.

And then the fun part began ... quilting !!! First I'm going to quilt around each pumpkin and in the pumpkin directly beside the embroidery lines, so the pumpkin gets depth. The rest of the background I'm going to do with an all-over pattern.

Vanavond ga ik ook stofjes bij elkaar zoeken voor de applicatie quilt van Esther Aliu, want gisteren konden we het eerste deel al uitprinten en het ziet er geweldig uit. Op Esther's blog (klik) kun je al een gedeelte van de quilt zien.

Tonight I'm going to search for fabrics in my stash for the applique quilt from Esther Aliu, because yesterday we could print the first part of the quilt and it looks amazing. On Esther's blog (click) you can see the middle part of the quilt.
