Tour de France socks and more

Dit was mijn tour-de-yarn mand 🚲. Ik had 24 kleuren sokkenwol opgedraaid en ongenummerd verpakt. Elke dag (gedurende de Tour de France) ging ik een paar naalden breien aan een paar sokken met een nieuwe kleur.

This was my tour-de-yarn basket 🚲. I had rolled up 24 colors of sock wool and packaged them unnumbered. Every day (during the Tour de France) I knitted a few needles on a pair of socks in a new color.

Waarom 24 kleuren als de wielrenners maar 21 dagen fietsen?
Ik gebruikte er 21 voor op de rit dagen, 2 voor op de rustdagen (ik fietste/breide gewoon door, had geen rust nodig) en ik begon al 1 dag eerder, namelijk al op de vrijdag, dit was de fiets/brei opwarm ronde.
Ik gebruikte 12 kleuren voor een paar sokken dus na de tour had ik 2 paar scrappy Tour de France sokken. De pakjes waren ongenummerd zodat het ook voor mij een verrassing zou zijn hoe de sokken eruit kwamen te zien.

Why 24 colors if the cyclists only cycle for 21 days?
I used 21 for the ride days, 2 for the rest days (I just kept cycling/knitting, didn't need any rest) and I started 1 day earlier, namely on Friday, this was the cycling/knit warm-up round.
I used 12 colors for one pair of socks so after the tour I had 2 pairs of scrappy Tour de France socks. The packages were unnumbered so that it would also be a surprise to me what the socks looked like.

Op 25 juni was ik ook met het zomertruitje voor mijn middelste kleindochter Yara begonnen. Op 8 juli was ik bij de armsgaten

en op 10 juli was het helemaal klaar. Yara is 4 jaar en dit is gemaakt in maat EU 118 (6-7 UK).
Patroon komt uit zomerboek 109 van @katiayarns. Garen is Mimosa van Katia, 100 % katoen.

Bij Tante Tuttebol kwam vorige de week de nieuwe Opal Regenwald 20 jarig jubileum collectie binnen. Die gingen uiteraard mee naar huis en ik begon, naast de Toursokken, meteen met de lieveheersbeestjes kleur 1208.

The new Opal Regenwald 20th anniversary collection arrived at my local yarnstore this week. Of course I took them all home and, in addition to the Tour socks, I immediately started with the ladybug color 1208.

In de tuin bloeien weer verschillende planten, het is echt genieten.

Various plants are blooming again in the garden, it is really enjoyable.

Op 26 juli beginnen ook de Olympische Spelen en jahoor ... ik heb besloten om ook 2 paar Olympische Spelen sokken te gaan breien, maar daarover meer in mijn volgende berichtje.

The Olympic Games also start on July 26 and yes ... I have decided to knit 2 pairs of Olympic Games socks, but more about that in my next message.

Summer top finished

 Een tijdje terug was ik al begonnen met deze zomer top voor een van de kleindochters, maar mede door de slechte weer bleef het liggen. Een paar dagen geleden had ik het weer opgepakt.

A while ago I had already started this summer top for one of the granddaughters, but partly due to the bad weather I didn't like working on it.A few days ago I picked it up again.

Gisteren heb ik het Lana laten passen en het paste goed. Ze is 4 jaar en dit is gemaakt in maat EU 104 (3-4 UK).
Nu moet ik er nog 2 breien voor de andere kleindochters die er ook eentje willen, ze hebben bijna dezelfde maat.

I had it tried on Lana yesterday and it fit well. She is 4 years old and this is made in size EU 104 (3-4 UK).
Now I have to knit 2 more for the other granddaughters who also want one, they are almost the same size.

Boek 8 en 9 uit de Hope Harbor serie van Irene Hannon waren net als de voorgaande boeken weer prachtig om te lezen.
Inmiddels ben ik aan boek 10 Het zandpaleis begonnen. Geniet van het mooie weer dat we de komende dagen hebben.

Opal scrappy socks finished

Het vierde boek voor de Reading Corner cowl is De stam van de holenbeer van Jean M. Auel uit de serie De aardkinderen.

The fourth book for the Reading Corner cowl is The clan of the cave bear from Jean M. Auel from the series Earth's Children.

Kay Jones verteld een stukje uit het boek over wanneer Ayla en de clan hun nieuwe grot vinden en vlak van te voren komen ze uit bij een weide vol wilde bloemen. Daar staat deze kleur voor met allerlei tinten groen en wat kleurtjes voor de wilde bloemen.
Het garen voor deze 4e kleur is van herbstblatt_Regina  in de kleur Falalala.

Kay Jones tells a little bit about a part of the book when Ayla and the clan find their new cave and shortly before they arrive at a meadow full of wild flowers. That's what this color stands for with all kinds of shades of green and some colors for the wild flowers.
The yarn for this fourth color is from @herbstblatt_Regina in the color Falalala.

Het paar sokken dat ik gebreid had met mini bolletjes van Opal garen zijn nu ook helemaal af. Ik gebruikte er 8, voor de hak en teen gebruikte ik een garen uit mijn voorraad, ik heb geen idee meer van welk merk dit is.

The pair of socks that I knitted with mini balls of Opal yarn are now also completely finished. I used 8, for the heel and toe I used a yarn from my stash, I have no idea what brand this is anymore.

Twee jaar geleden was ik begonnen met de Pixie Dust col, een patroon uit de platinum collectie 2022 van Kay Jones met de garens van de advent kalender 2020 van Cookston Crafts (thema kleuren van Schotland).
Ik had een stukje gebreid maar ik heb dit 3 dagen geleden uitgehaald en ik ben opnieuw begonnen. Ik vond hem iets te wijd worden, dus ik heb nu een aantal steken minder opgezet.

Two years ago I started with the Pixie Dust cowl, a pattern from the 2022 platinum collection by Kay Jones with the yarns from the 2020 advent calendar from Cookston Crafts (theme colors of Scotland).
I had knitted a few repeats but I took it out 3 days ago and started again. I thought it was a bit too wide, so I cast on a few fewer stitches now.

Er zitten 24 strengetjes in de kalender, ik ga eens kijken hoelang de col wordt als ik 12 kleuren gebruik. Als hij dan lang genoeg is, dan maak ik van de andere 12 kleuren een zelfde col.

There are 24 skeins in the calendar, I'm going to see how long the cowl will be if I use 12 colors. When it is long enough, I make the same cowl from the other 12 colors.

More Scrappy Quilt socks

Het patroon de Scrappy Quilt sokken van Kay Jones is zo verslavend dat ik er inmiddels nog 3 paar van gebreid heb. Dat zijn dus 4 paar in totaal. In het vorige bericht konden jullie het eerste paar zien.
Paar 2 is gebreid met het garen van The woolly chicken, kleur Brian Boru's harp voor de boord, hak en teen en de mini set We Three Kings voor de strepen.

The Scrappy Quilt socks pattern from Kay Jones is so addictive that I have now knitted 3 more pairs. So that's 4 pairs in total. In the previous post you could see the first pair.
Pair 2 is knitted with the yarn from The woolly chicken, color Brian Boru's harp for the cuff, heel and toe and the mini set We Three Kings for the stripes.

Paar 3 werd gebreid met mini strengen van Therese Notenboom, ze doen misschien denken aan kerst maar ik dacht aan een rozentuin.

Pair 3 was knitted with mini skeins from Therese Notenboom, they may remind you of Christmas but I was thinking of a rose garden.

Paar 4 die ik gisteren af kreeg is gebreid met 4 mini strengen van Therese Notenboom en de hoofdkleur is van Maschenatelier uit Duitsland in de kleur Happiness.

Pair 4 that I finished yesterday is knitted with 4 mini skeins from Therese Notenboom and the main color is from Maschenatelier from Germany in the color Happiness.

Op 30 mei werd onze middelste kleindochter Yara 4 jaar. De tijd gaat echt snel. We vierden haar verjaardag op zondag 2 juni.

On May 30, our middle granddaughter Yara turned 4 years old. Time goes really fast. We celebrated her birthday on Sunday, June 2.

De dag ervoor hadden we op de andere twee kleindochters gepast, want hun ouders gingen samen met vrienden bowlen en uit eten. Lana en Loïs wilden ook wel leren bowlen, dus opa zocht wat lege flessen bij elkaar en de kindjes hadden uren speel plezier.

The day before we had babysat the other two granddaughters as their parents went bowling and out to dinner with friends. Lana and Loïs also wanted to learn to bowl, so Grandpa gathered up some empty bottles and the children had hours of fun.

Afgelopen zaterdag 8 juni was het KIP dag (Knitting In Public - breien in het openbaar). Wereldwijd gaan mensen breien in de openlucht, dat kan zijn in een park, bij een theetuin, bij wolwinkels of waar dan ook. Ik was, net als vorig jaar, bij Tante Tuttebol (te zien hier vooraan op de foto).

Last Saturday, June 8, it was KIP day (Knitting In Public). People all over the world start knitting in the open air, which can be in a park, at a tea garden, at wool shops or anywhere else. Just like last year, I was at Tante Tuttebol (seen here at the front of the photo).

Ik heb deze middag gewerkt aan een aantal granny squares met garen dat ze ons gaf. We gaan met de granny squares namelijk de boom versieren die buiten voor de winkel staat.

I worked on some granny squares this afternoon with yarn she gave us. We are going to decorate the tree outside the store with the granny squares.

De boekenlijst aan de rechterkant is ook weer bijgewerkt. Ik heb boek 2 en 3 van de Thorndale serie van Suzanne Snow gelezen die echt mooi zijn en ook boek 2 uit de Verloren dochters serie, De Cubaanse dochter van Soraya Lane was schitterend om te lezen.

The book list on the right has also been updated. I have read books 2 and 3 of the Welcome to Thorndale series by Suzanne Snow which are really beautiful and also book 2 of the Lost Daughters series, The Cuban Daughter by Soraya Lane was wonderful to read.

Verder kwam vorige week ook de 2e zending van het jaar binnen met de Opal ABO, ook ditmaal weer hele mooie kleuren.
Zelf ga ik nu eerst verder om de vierde kleur aan de reading Corner cowl te breien die ik hopelijk volgende keer kan laten zien in een nieuw berichtje.

Furthermore, last week the 2nd shipment of the year arrived with the Opal ABO, again very beautiful colors.
I will now continue to knit the fourth color to the reading Corner cowl, which I can hopefully show in a new message next time.

Scrappy Quilt socks

Op 2 mei (onze 19e trouwdag en de 38e verjaardag van dochter Lindy) met het mooie weer heerlijk buiten kunnen breien. Ik was begonnen met de Spring Shorty socks ( die ik nu iets langer brei) in de Goudvink (Bullfinch) kleur.
Deze kleur is van The Woolly Chicken uit haar maandelijkse vogel serie en het patroon is van Kay Jones.

On May 2 (our 19th wedding anniversary and daughter Lindy's 38th birthday) I was able to knit outside in the nice weather. Started with the Spring Shorty socks (which I now knit a little longer) in the Bullfinch color.
This color is from The Woolly Chicken from her monthly bird series and the pattern is from Kay Jones.

Op 7 mei was ik inmiddels aan mijn 2e sok bezig.

On May 7 I was working on my 2nd sock.

De volgende dag legde ik deze sok even apart, want 10 jaar geleden op 8 mei zond de Bakery Bears hun eerste video op youtube uit en nog steeds zit ik elke 2 weken  op vrijdag klaar om hun nieuwste opname te bekijken.
Ter gelegenheid van dit 10 jarig bestaan heeft Kay Jones  een patroon uitgebracht, de Scrappy Quilt socks en ook dit is weer zo'n patroon dat van de naald af vliegt.

The next day I put this sock aside, because 10 years ago on May 8, the Bakery Bears broadcast their first video on YouTube and every 2 weeks I am ready on Friday to watch their latest recording.
On the occasion of this 10th anniversary, Kay Jones has released a pattern, the Scrappy Quilt socks and this is another pattern that flies off the needle.

Op 17 mei waren de Scrappy Quilt sokken af en wat een geweldig patroon om te breien is dit. Ik heb hiervoor scraps gebruikt uit mijn voorraad.

On may 17 my Scrappy Quilt socks were finished and what a great pattern to knit this is. I used scraps from my stash.

Ik ben meteen aan een tweede paar begonnen. Nu met het garen van The Woolly Chicken, kleur Brian Boru's harp voor boord, hak en teen en de mini set We Three Kings voor de strepen.

I started immediately with a second pair. This time with yarn from The Woolly Chicken, color Brian Boru's harp for cuff, heel and toe and the mini set We Three Kings for the stripes.

Ook kreeg ik deze maand de 4e vogel kleur van The Woolly Chicken binnen. Dit keer is het de groenling.

I also got the 4th bird color from The Woolly Chicken, this time the greenfinch.

En nog een paar andere mooie kleuren.

Heb ik nog mooie boeken gelezen? Jazeker.
In 2 dagen tijd dit mooie boek van Soraya Lane  uitgelezen. De Italiaanse dochter is het 1e boek in een 8 delige serie genaamd De verloren dochters. Het volgende deel, De Cubaanse dochter, ligt al klaar.

Have I read any wonderful books lately? Sure.
I read this beautiful book by Soraya Lane in 2 days. The Italian Daughter is the 1st book in an 8-part series called The Lost Daughters. The next one, The Cuban Daughter, I already have ready to go.

Elk jaar staat er een leesboek in de schijnwerpers bij @geefeenboekcadeau voor een kleine prijs. Dit jaar is het Kom uit die kraan !! van Tjibbe Veldkamp & Alice Hoogstad.
Er zijn weer 4 boeken gekocht, 2 voor mijn kinderen (en kleindochters), 1 voor petekind en 1 voor mezelf.

Every year a Dutch book is in the spotlight at @geefeenboekcadeau for a small price. This year it is Kom uit die kraan !! van Tjibbe Veldkamp & Alice Hoogstad.
Another 4 books have been purchased, 2 for my children (and granddaughters), 1 for my goddaughter and 1 for myself.
