Garden, Mees and advent talking

In mei begonnen we ook plannen te maken voor de tuin. Michiel wilde graag een voorgevormde vijver, er werd een nieuw hek en poortje gekocht en een mooie houten regenton. Michiel is een tijd bezig geweest om alles naar onze zin te maken. Door het hele warme en droge weer hebben we ervoor gekozen om in het voorjaar pas graszoden te leggen.

In May, we also started making plans for the garden. Michiel wanted a pre-formed pond, so we bought a new fence and gate, and a beautiful wooden rain barrel. Michiel spent some time getting everything just right. Due to the very warm and dry weather, we decided to wait until spring to lay sod.

Voor Mees kochten we een strechter om buiten op te liggen en wat genoot hij hiervan.

We bought a strechter for Mees to lie on outside and he really enjoyed it.

Met dierendag kreeg hij weer een stoffen beest dat binnen een kwartier uit elkaar lag.

On Animal Day he received another fabric animal that was taken apart within fifteen minutes.

In mei kwam ook het prentenboek van het jaar uit, dit keer De kleine walvis van Benji Davies.

May also saw the release of the picture book of the year, this time The Little Whale by Benji Davies.

Over een paar dagen is het alweer advent tijd. Ook dit jaar heb ik weer verschillende advent kalenders.
Dagelijkse garen kalenders van The woolly chicken, Mooike, Badcattoo/Wat Wollie, Frogmouse, Therese Notenboom en Witzomer.
Daarnaast weer een swap met vriendin Else en een quiltstofjes advent met 1/2 FQ's van The log cabin (deze is van vorig jaar en ze had er nog een over).
Verder de kalender van Bonne Maman, My buddy (Drogist DM), twee persoonse thee kalender en natuurlijk een voor Mees.
Tot slot heb ik Atelier Sopra gevraagd of ze me een kalender wilde maken voor de advent zondagen en kerstdag, omdat ze dit jaar geen kalenders ging verven. En ik ben blij dat ze dit voor mij en een vriendin heeft geverft.

In a few days, it's Advent season again. This year, too, I have several Advent calendars.
Daily yarn calendars from The Woolly Chicken, Mooike, Badcattoo/Wat Wollie, Frogmouse, Therese Notenboom, and Witzomer.
I also have a swap with my friend Else and a quilting Advent with half FQs from The Log Cabin (this one is from last year, and she had one left over).
Also, the Bonne Maman calendar, My Buddy (DM drugstore), a double tea calendar, and of course, one for Mees.
Finally, I asked Atelier Sopra to make me a calendar for Advent Sundays and Christmas, since she wasn't dyeing any calendars this year. And I'm glad she dyed this one for me and a friend.

Ik heb me dit jaar ook een adventboek besteld, het heet A heart for Christmas (Nederlandse uitgave), het leest als een Adventskalender. Elk van de 24 hoofdstukken zit nog dicht, verzegeld, als een ingepakt cadeautje.
Elke dag mag je één hoofdstuk openmaken. Zo beleef je elke dag tot aan kerstmis een magisch leesmoment.

I also ordered an Advent book this year, called "A Heart for Christmas" (Dutch edition). It reads like an Advent calendar. Each of the 24 chapters is still closed, sealed, like a wrapped present.
You can open one chapter each day. This way, you'll experience a magical reading moment every day until Christmas.

Ik weet nog niet of ik elke dag de inhoud van de kalenders laat zien of dat ik een keer in de 4 dagen alles laat zien.
In elk geval tot zondag, want dan is het de eerste advent zondag en mag ik een pakje open maken van Atelier Sopra en van vriendin Else.

I'm not sure yet whether I'll show the calendars every day or if I'll show everything every four days.
At least until Sunday, because then it's the first Advent Sunday, and I can open an present from Atelier Sopra and my friend Else.

 

Gisteren had ik de gastroscopie met sedatie, dus heerlijk geslapen tijdens de behandeling. Ze hebben onder in de maag weer enkele adertjes dicht gebrand.
Op 2 januari moet ik opnieuw bloedprikken en op 7 januari krijg ik de uitslag. Hopelijk blijft nu mijn ijzergehalte op peil.

Yesterday I had the gastroscopy under sedation, so I slept wonderfully during the procedure. They cauterized a few arteries in my lower stomach again.
I have another blood test on January 2nd, and I'll get the results on January 7th. Hopefully, my iron levels will remain stable this time.

Give a book as a gift

 Elk jaar houden de Bakery Bears Valenvent. Dit begint op 1 februari en eindigt op 14 februari. Kay geeft de patrons dan een patroon dat ze kunnen breien. Twee jaar geleden was dit de Cerish Cowl.

Every year the Bakery Bears hold Valenvent. This starts on February 1 and ends on February 14. Kay then gives the patrons a pattern to knit. Two years ago that was the Cerish Cowl.

Ik gebruikte hiervoor de Rosy en de Purple Posy mini set van The Woolly Chicken en ik hield van elke kleur tussen de 9 en 10 gram over.

I used the Rosy and the Purple Posy mini set from The Woolly Chicken and I had between 9 and 10 grams of each color left.

Dit jaar kregen we de Love Story sokken als patroon en ik ben hiervoor de restjes gaan gebruiken die ik over had van de col.

This year we received the Love Story socks as a pattern and I used the leftovers I had from the cowl for this.

Vorige week dinsdag was ik naar de sokkenclub bij Tante Tuttenbol die eens in de 6 weken wordt gehouden en ik heb de dames daar uitleg gegeven over hoe ze een ajourpatroon kunnen breien in hun sok. Ze kwamen er achter dat het niet eens zo moeilijk is.

Last Tuesday I went to the sock club at Tante Tuttenbol's that is held once every 6 weeks and I explained to the ladies there how they can knit a lace pattern in their sock. They found out that it's not even that difficult.

Afgelopen week was ook de startdatum voor "Geef een boek cadeau", dit gebeurd eenmaal per jaar. Ze hebben dan een bekend boek opnieuw gedrukt tegen een zeer lage prijs, 2,99 euro. Dit jaar is het Superjuffie van Janneke Schotveld. Ik kocht er weer vier (voor zoon en dochter en hun kinderen, voor petekind en 1 voor mezelf).

Last week was also the start date for "Give a book as a gift", this happens once a year. They have then reprinted a well-known book at a very low price, 2.99 euros. This year it is Superjuffie by Janneke Schotveld. I bought four books (for son and daughter and their children, for goddaughter and 1 for myself).

2 februari Deze mok gebruik ik meestal om mijn 10 of 20 grams bolletjes in te doen terwijl ik ermee aan het breien ben, ze rollen dan niet door de kamer heen.
3 februari Na het spelen met zijn kluif moet er gerust worden.
4 februari De tafel is weer leeggemaakt nadat we een puzzel af hadden. Het is tijd voor een nieuwe.

Morgenavond begint ook weer de sokcursus die Francien en ik geven, alweer voor de vijfde keer.  Ook dit keer zat de cursus weer snel vol met 10 deelneemsters.

Tomorrow evening the sock course that Francien and I are giving will start again, for the fifth time.  This time too, the course quickly filled up with 10 participants.

Another week has passed

 In de nacht van 8 op 9 januari viel er sneeuw, niet heel veel maar Mees vond het geweldig.

On the night of January 8 to 9, snow fell, not a lot, but Mees loved it.

Voor de vogels wordt ook goed gezorgd.

The birds are also well cared for.

Er viel op 10 januari ook nog iets sneeuw en Michiel kon een kleine sneeuwpop maken op de tuintafel. De kleindochters vonden het geweldig toen ze de volgende dag kwamen.

Some snow also fell on January 10 and Michiel was able to make a small snowman on the garden table. The granddaughters loved it when they came the next day.

Ze kwamen het dekentje halen dat ik voor Loïs had gehaakt. Dit is het 2e dekentje voor haar stapelbed in haar poppenhuis.

They came to get the blanket that I had crocheted for Loïs. This is the 2nd blanket for her bunk bed in her dollhouse.

Maar ze kwamen ook omdat mijn dochter Lindy haar sok kwam passen. Ze had al vaker gevraagd om een paar zelf gebreide sokken. Ze houdt van roze en dus zocht ik verschillende bolletjes Opal bij elkaar.

But they also came because my daughter Lindy came to try on her sock. She had often asked for a pair of self-knitted socks. She likes pink so I looked for several balls of Opal together.

De maat was goed en ik heb nu bijna de sokken af.

The size was right and I have almost finished the socks now.

Op 7 januari was er ook een sokkenclub avond bij Tante Tuttebol. Gewoon dames die gezellig bij elkaar komen om sokken te breien. Ze hadden gevraagd of ik uit wilde leggen hoe je scrappy sokken breid en hoe je dan de draadjes allemaal instopt. Dit heb ik die avond uitgelegd en ze zijn aan de slag gegaan met hun restjes om daarvan sokken te breien.

On January 7 there was also a sock club evening at Tante Tuttebol. Just ladies who get together to knit socks. They asked me to explain how to knit scrappy socks and how to weave in all the ends. I explained this that evening and they started working with their leftovers to knit socks.

Mijn dochter stuurde me deze foto op 9 januari, het was toen precies 5 jaar dat we in Engeland waren om kleindochter Lana te zien die op 13 december geboren was. We zijn toen 10 dagen daar geweest en wat hebben we toen genoten. In augustus dat jaar (2020) precies tussen 2 golven van de corona golf, kwamen ze definitief in Nederland wonen en we zijn daar nog steeds heel blij om. Ze wonen nu dichtbij en we zien ze regelmatig.

My daughter sent me this photo on January 9th, exactly 5 years ago that we were in England to see granddaughter Lana who was born on December 13th. We were there for 10 days and we enjoyed it so much. In August that year (2020), exactly between 2 waves of the corona wave, they came to live in the Netherlands permanently and we are still very happy about that. They now live close by and we see them regularly.

Het eerste boek van dit jaar is ook gelezen: Sneeuw, sterren en kaneel van Helene Holmström, wat een geweldig boek om te lezen. Inmiddels ben ik begonnen in het nieuwste boek van Karen Swan, de Canadese ontmoeting en ik zou zeggen ... zeker lezen !

The first book of this year has also been read: Snow, Stars and Cinnamon by Helene Holmström, what a great book to read. I have now started Karen Swan's latest book, Christmas under the stars and I would say... definitely read it!

Advent day 24

Vandaag een bak dag gehad. Het hele huis ruikt nog naar gingerbread koekjes.

I had a baking day today. The whole house still smells like gingerbread cookies.

Ik won dit boek vorige week in de give away die Manuela Inusa elke dag hield tijdens advent.
Een boek uit de Valerie Lane serie. Ben er zo blij mee, gelukkig kan ik ook goed Duits lezen. Ze stuurde ook nog volop andere dingen mee. 

I won this book last week in the giveaway that Manuela Inusa held every day during Advent. A book from the Valerie Lane series. I'm so happy with it, luckily I also can read German. She also sent plenty of other things.

In de late middag hebben wij weer volop gingerbread koekjes gebakken voor de kinderen en kleinkinderen. Het is stilaan een traditie geworden want ze vinden ze heerlijk. Twee koektrommels worden morgen weer afgegeven, uiteraard blijft 1 koektrommel hier bij ons.

In the late afternoon we baked plenty of gingerbread cookies for the children and grandchildren. It has gradually become a tradition because they love them. Two cookie jars will be delivered again tomorrow, of course, 1 cookie jar will stay here with us.

Later deze week zal er nog een overzicht foto komen van alle garens uit de advent kalenders. Ik ben al volop plannen aan het bedenken wat ik ermee ga maken.
