Time to write another blog post and I will make a confession ;-) Last week I was busy with applique those leaves on block 2 of the Susan Smith quilt, but it was going so slow. The reason was ...

Op donderdag kwamen mijn vriendinnen Trees en Ans quilten en ik vertelde dat ik die hexagonnen maar niet uit mijn hoofd kreeg. Het appliceren ging naar mijn idee nu zo langzaam en ik wilde voort maken omdat ik graag verder wilde met hexagons. Ook bespraken we wat je zoal met jellyrolls kunt doen en ineens zag ik het voor me. Boven had ik nog een jellyrol liggen van Antique Rose  for Mrs. March collection en wat zou daar een mooie hexagon quilt van gemaakt kunnen worden. Ik zei tegen Trees en Ans: "Ik leg mijn applicatie aan de kant en ga vanavond nog een patroon tekenen". Ze kwamen beide niet meer bij van het lachen.

On thursday my friends Trees and Ans came by to quilt and I told them that I couldn't get those hexagons out of my head. That was the reason why the  applique was going so slow, I wanted to do it fast so I could return to those hexagons. We also discussed what you can do with a jellyroll and then it hit me. In my quilt room I had a jellyroll of Antique Rose for Mrs. March collection and wouldn't that make a beautiful hexagon quilt? I said to Trees and Ans: "I 'm going to put my applique aside and tonight I'm going to draw a design". Both could not stop laughing.

De stoffen die ik in gedachte voor me had, werden 's avonds klaargelegd en ik kon beginnen aan een ontwerp. Eerst moest ik even tellen hoeveel hexagonnen er uit 1 strip van de jellyroll geknipt konden worden.

In the evening I took the fabrics that I wanted to use and I could start with making a design. But first I had to count how much hexagons I could cut from one strip of the jellyroll.

Daarna werd er getekend in EQ7 en volop geteld, zodat ik ook zeker genoeg stof had. Maar op vrijdag had ik mijn ontwerp klaar.

Then I started to draw in EQ7 and I counted a lot, because I had to make sure I had enough fabric. But on friday I had my design ready.

Er moesten meer dan 1800 hexagonnen getekend en geknipt worden. Snappen jullie nu dat ik geen tijd had om een nieuw blogje te schrijven. De meeste hexagonnen zijn inmiddels geknipt, alleen nog een partij van de achtergrondstof, maar dat doe ik gaandeweg. Inmiddels ben ik druk bezig met stofjes om de kartonnetjes te naaien ;-)

I had to draw and cut more than 1800 hexagons. Can you understand that I hadn't time to write a new blog post ;-) Most of the hexagons are cut, except for some background hexagons, but I will do that in between when I'm working on the quilt. Now I'm busy with sewing the fabrics around the hexagon templates.

Maar dat is niet alles wat er gedaan is, want we zijn ook nog volop bezig in de tuin. Laatst van de week komen de nieuwe graszoden en dan moet de tuin in zoverre op orde zijn. Er wordt dus hard gewerkt ...

But that isn't the only thing I did, we are also very busy in the garden. Later this week we get new grass (do they call it sods in English ?) and before that we have to make that is garden is ready for it. We are working very hard ...

Gisteren ook nog terug geweest op controle bij de gynaecoloog en het plekje waar ik 3 maanden de chemo zalf op gesmeerd had, zag er heel goed uit. Dat was dus positief nieuws. Er is meteen weer een uitstrijkje gemaakt en hopelijk krijg ik hier volgende week ook goed nieuws over. Even afwachten dus.

Yesterday I had to go back for a check up at the gynecologist and he looked at the spot where I had to put that chemo ointment on for 3 months. He said it looked very good, so that was positive news. He also made an internally smear and I hope to hear good news about this test next week. So we have to wait and see.

Lazy monday afternoon

De zijkanten die ik af had, heb ik gisteren aan de bloemen gezet van Birds and Blooms.

The side blocks I finished, I sewed yesterday onto the other flowers of Birds and Blooms.

Daarna zijn de hexies aan de kant gelegd, want het was tijd om te beginnen aan het 2e blok van the Rowdy Flat Library quilt. Het middenstuk is inmiddels klaar en ook de grote ring rondom. Deze ring was eigenlijk open aan de onderkant zodat je daar je letter van je naam kon appliceren, maar ik heb besloten om dat niet te doen. Nu tijd om de blaadjes vast gaan te zetten.

Then it was time for something else, the second block of the Rowdy Flat Library quilt. The middle part is done and also the large ring around. This last ring had to be open on the bottom so you could applique your initial, but I don´t do that. Now it is time to applique all those leaves.

Een tijdje terug kreeg ik van vriendin Trees een aantal stekjes, waaronder een stekje van de graslelie (Chlorophytum comosum). Inmiddels is het al best een hele plant geworden en de eerste bloemetjes staan te bloeien.

Awhile back I got from my friend Trees some cuttings of plants and one of those was a piece of the spiderplant (Chlorophytum comosum). It has grown a lot and the first flowers are blooming.

Buiten is het maar koud en grauw, maar Bowy heeft daar iets op gevonden. Heerlijk luierend je maandagmiddag op de bank door brengen ;-)

Outside it is cold, but Bowy don't care. He has a lazy monday afternoon on the couch.

TRFLQ - Block 1

Vlinders bleven af en aan vliegen, maar alle 6 staan inmiddels op het blok. Hiermee is blok 1 van The Rowdy Flat Library quilt af.

Butterflies keep flying off and on, but all 6 are now sewed on the block. Block 1 of The Rowdy Flat Library quilt is now finished.

Blok 2 heb ik inmiddels in huis, maar ik ga nu eerst even wat doen aan de Sarah Fielke BOM, want daar heb ik al 3 delen van die liggen te wachten. Hier nog even alle vlinders nog eens op een rijtje.

From walking to butterflies and bread

Wat hadden we het afgelopen weekend een prachtig weer, de zon scheen zo uitnodigend, dus tijd voor een natuurwandeling. Ja Bowy we komen er aan ...

We had so wonderful weather last weekend, the sun was shining bright, so time for a nature walk. Yes Bowy, we are coming ...

 Wilgenkatjes kwamen we overal tegen ...

We saw many willow catkins ...

Jammer dat jullie al die vogels niet horen fluiten ;-)

Too bad you can't hear all those birds chirping ;-)

 Bomen, ik hou ervan, of het nu een eik, een beuk of zoals hier een berk is. Het zijn net mensen, geen een is hetzelfde ...

Trees, I love them, if it is an oak, a beech or in this case a birch. They are like people, not one is the same ...

Bowy loopt ondertussen stevig door met zijn kleine pootjes ...

Uiteraard is er ook nog volop gewerkt aan het blok van The Rowdy Flat Library quilt. De bloempotjes zijn klaar en inmiddels ben ik begonnen aan de vlinders.

Ofcourse I worked also on The Rowdy Flat Library quilt. The flowerpots are done and now I'm working on the butterflies.

Tussendoor wordt er ook telkens brood gebakken, weliswaar in de broodmachine, maar smaken doet het goed. Het hele huis ruikt zo heerlijk als het brood klaar is. Dit keer maakte ik een muesli-rozijnen-noten brood, ... jammie !

In between I bake bread a lot, although in the bread maker, but it taste very good. The whole house smells so good when the bread is ready. This time I made a muesli-raisins-nuts bread, ... yummy !

The leaves

Nadat de strikken geappliceerd waren, was het tijd voor de blaadjes rondom de grote cirkel. Ik maak ze allemaal in groen tinten.

After I appliqued the ribbons, it was time for the leaves around the big circle. I'm making them all with green fabrics.

Het was even een werkje, maar inmiddels zitten ze allemaal vast. Nu ga ik beginnen aan de bloempotjes die in de hoeken komen te staan.

It was a bit of work, but they are sewed on. Now I can start with the flowerpots in each corner.

Started the RFLQ

Je vraagt je misschien af, wat is nu de RFLQ ? Dat is de afkorting voor de nieuwe BOM van Susan Smith, the Rowdy Flat Library Quilt. Het is zo'n lange naam om steeds te schrijven ;-) Allereerst begon ik met een afbeelding te kiezen voor het midden en daarna moesten er veel blaadjes rondom geappliceerd worden. Hier liggen ze nog los.

You maybe asking, what is the RFLQ ? That is an abbreviation for the new BOM of Susan Smith, the  Rowdy Flat Library Quilt. It is such a long name to write every time ;-) First I started with selecting a print from the middle and then I had to applique all the leaves around. Here they are still not sewed.

Toen de blaadjes vast gezet waren, moest ik de bias bandjes vastnaaien. Dit was nog een hele klus, maar het is me toch goed gelukt. Nu kan ik verder met de strikken te appliceren.

When the leaves were sewed, I could continue with the bias. Not the easiest job, but I think I managed okay. Now I can go on with the ribbons.

 

Piece and Plenty quilt top finished

Dit quiltavontuur begon in de 1e week van januari. Jeannet (klik) en daarna vele andere, begonnen aan de Piece and Plenty quilt van Moda (klik voor het gratis patroon). 

This quilt adventure started the first week of january. Jeannet (click) and then many more people started the Piece and Plenty quilt from Moda (click for the free pattern).

 

Niet alle blokjes zijn volgens het patroon, soms heb ik er iets aan veranderd. 

Not all the blocks are made according to the pattern, sometimes I made some changes.

De bedoeling was 1 blok per maand te doen, maar de mandjes waren te verslavend om er steeds mee te wachten tot de maand om was. 

The intention was to make 1 block each month, but the baskets were such fun to make, that it was to hard to wait another month.

 

Met als resultaat dat op deze 1e lentedag de quilt top helemaal in elkaar staat.

With the result that on this first spring day the quilt top is finished.

 

Ik heb hem nu even aan de kant gelegd. Het doorquilten is voor een andere keer, want ik ga eerst beginnen met de Rowdy Flat Library quilt van Susan Smith. Afgelopen zaterdag vond ik een mooi stofje met "oude" afbeeldingen die perfect zijn voor deze quilt. Als ondergrondstof koos ik voor een lichte zand kleur en een blauw/groen streepje voor de bias cirkels.

For now I have put the quilt top away. The quilting is for later, because I want to start with The Rowdy Flat Library quilt from Susan Smith. Last saturday I found some lovely fabric with "old looking" prints that were perfect for this quilt. For the background I choose a light sand color and a blue/green stripe for the bias circles.

Basket month 7

Wie het Piece and Plenty patroon kent, zal dit blok niet herkennen. Dat komt omdat ik dit blok behoorlijk veranderd heb.

Who the Piece and Plenty pattern knows, will not recognize this block. That's because I have changed this block considerably. 

Het originele blok is een emmer met een Amerikaanse vlag en de achtergrond bestaat uit allemaal aparte blokjes. Ik koos voor een rustige achtergrond en maakte van de emmer een vaas met daarin bloempjes.

The original block is a bucket with an American flag and the background are all separate little blocks. I choose for a one piece background and instead of the bucket I made a vase with flowers.

Gisteren kwam ook het eerste deel van de nieuwe BOM van Susan Smith. Nu kan de voorpret beginnen, ... het uitzoeken van de stofjes.

Yesterday the first part of the new BOM from Susan Smith arrived. Now the fun can begin, ... sorting out the fabrics.

Another new BOM

Op 7 januari schreef ik al over de nieuwe BOM van Sarah Fielke die eind januari begint,maar ook Susan Smith (bekend van o.a. de Stonefields) begint met een nieuwe BOM, die eind februari start. 

The Rowdy Flat Library quilt staat in het teken van de natuur, vol met bijen, bloemen, vlinders, vogels en nog meer dieren. Daar wij echte natuurliefhebbers zijn was dit een quilt naar mijn hart, dus ik heb mij al opgegeven ;-)

On january 7 I wrote about the new BOM from Sarah Fielke which starts end january,  but also Susan Smith (wel known from the Stonefields) starts with a new BOM, that will start end february.

The Rowdy Flat Library quilt has as theme Nature, full with bees, flowers, butterflies, birds and many more animals. We love nature very much, so I had to make this quilt ;-)
