It's been a while

 Het is 10 maanden geleden dat ik een berichtje schreef terwijl ik genoeg te vertellen had. Ik heb wel steeds alles op instagram gepost, maar de fut om een bericht hier te schrijven bleef uit. 
Als ik alles zou schrijven wat er in die 10 maanden is gebeurd, dan zou dit een super lang bericht zijn. Ik ga daarom de komende dagen steeds een bericht posten.
Als eerste de werkjes waar ik mee bezig ben.
Granny squares (gehaakt met wolletjes van swap met vriendin in 2024), hier wil ik een deken mee maken.

It's been 10 months since I last wrote a post, even though I had so much to say. I've been posting everything on Instagram, but I haven't had the energy to write a post here.
If I were to write everything that happened in those 10 months, this would be a super long post. So I'm going to post one at a time over the next few days.
First, the projects I'm working on:
Granny squares (crocheted with yarn from a swap with a friend in 2024); I want to make a blanket with these.

Wat gebeurde er nog meer:
Onze middelste kleindochter Yara werd in mei 5 jaar.

What else happened:
Our middle granddaughter Yara turned 5 in May.

1x per jaar mogen de kinderen een restaurant uitzoeken waar we gaan eten. Dit is ons cadeau in plaats van ze een verjaardags cadeau te geven en ze vinden dit geweldig (de kleinkinderen blijven thuis). 
Dit jaar kozen ze voor een Crazy Diner. Aan de hand van beschrijvingen moet je raden waar dit in het 5 gangen menu past. Het kan dus zijn dat je je hoofdgerecht als eerste krijgt zonder bestek en je voorgerecht als laatste met bv alleen een mes. Het was echt hilarisch.

Once a year, the children get to choose a restaurant where we dine. This is our gift instead of a birthday present, and they love it (the grandchildren stay home).
This year, they chose a Crazy Dinner. Using descriptions, you have to guess where it fits into the 5-course menu. So, you might get your main course first, without cutlery, and your appetizer last, with, say, just a knife. It was truly hilarious.

In the front right of the photo is son Niels, then son-in-law Kyle, and then husband Michiel.

Net als vorig jaar (ballon vlucht) wilde Michiel ook dit jaar iets doen en hij koos voor zweefvliegen. Alleen schoondochter Irene wilde dit ook wel doen en dus gingen ze met zijn  tweetjes dat doen in augustus. Beide hebben enorm genoten.

Just like last year (hot air balloon flight), Michiel wanted to do something special this year, and he chose gliding. Only our daughter-in-law Irene was interested, so the two of them went together in August. They both had a wonderful time.

Hello 2025

Wat was 2024 weer een jaar van up en downs. Met de downs bedoel ik dan weer de vele ziekenhuis bezoeken, het uitzoeken waarom ik steeds een ijzertekort heb, het zoeken naar het goede medicijn voor de neuropathie. In januari ga ik verder met de ziekenhuis bezoeken, voor de 27e staat weer een coloscopie en gastroscopie ivm het ijzertekort. Hopelijk krijg ik nu iets meer duidelijkheid hierover.

2024 was another year of ups and downs. By the downs I mean the many hospital visits, finding out why I keep having an iron deficiency, the search for the right medicine for the neuropathy. In January I will continue with hospital visits, on the 27th there will be another colonoscopy and gastroscopy due to the iron deficiency. Hopefully I get a little more clarity about this now.

Maar wat waren er ook weer veel mooie momenten het afgelopen jaar. Teveel om op te noemen.
Michiel kon zich dit najaar uitleven in de tuin, de vijver werd afgebroken en de vele maaskeien werden opgehaald.

But there were also many wonderful moments last year. Too many to mention.
Michiel was able to enjoy himself in the garden this autumn, the pond was demolished and the many stones were collected.

Niet zo leuk was dat de 3 bomen in de tuin, de prunus, de meidoorn en de krentenboom eruit moesten. Ze waren aan het rotten, de bodem bleef nat door al de vele regens die we hebben gehad. In het voorjaar gaan we de tuin aanpakken, er komt een iets kleinere vijver, gazon en veel planten en bloemen.

It was not so nice that the 3 trees in the garden, the prunus, the hawthorn and the currant tree, had to be removed. They were rotting, the ground remained wet from all the rain we had. In the spring we will tackle the garden, there will be a slightly smaller pond, lawn and many plants and flowers.

Verder is het enorm genieten van onze Mees die alweer 4 jaar geworden is. Hij geniet van de lange wandelingen om daarna heerlijk weg te dromen in zijn mand.

Furthermore, we really enjoy our Mees, who has already turned 4 years old. He enjoys the long walks and then dreaming away in his basket.

en natuurlijk genieten we ook enorm van de kleindochters. Het worden al echte meiden.

and of course we also enjoy the granddaughters immensely. They are already becoming real girls.

Heb ik nog voornemens voor dit jaar? Normaal gesproken niet, maar nu heb ik toch met mezelf afgesproken dat ik weer meer tijd ga steken in dit blog en dat ik naast breien ook weer iets meer met lapjes ga doen (quilten). Uiteraard blijf ik sokken breien want dat vind ik toch wel enorm leuk. Hier mijn stapel met gebreide sokken van het afgelopen jaar (morgen een overzicht van alle gemaakte projecten in 2024).

Do I have any resolutions for this year? Normally not, but now I have agreed with myself that I will put more time into this blog and that in addition to knitting, I will also do more with fabric (quilting). Of course I will continue to knit socks because I really enjoy that. Here is my pile of knitted socks from the past year (tomorrow an overview of all projects completed in 2024).

Socks for granddaughters

De kerstdagen zijn heel gezellig verlopen. Eerste kerstdag hebben we door gebracht met zoon en dochter en hun gezinnen in het huis van mijn dochter.Ze had voor de 3 meiden een etagere met allerlei lekkers erop neergezet.

The Christmas holidays went very pleasantly. We spent Christmas Day with our son and daughter and their families in my daughter's house. She had placed a tiered display with all kinds of sweets on it for the 3 girls.

Je snapt wel dat ze dat heel lekker vonden.

You can imagine that they really liked that.

Na al dat snoepen werd er ook volop gespeeld, Lana en Yara liepen rond met hun mooiste juwelen

terwijl Loïs met haar toverstaf liep te zwaaien.

Schoonzoon Kyle en onze dochter hadden een Engels diner gemaakt. Dit bestond dan uit een biefrollade, 2 verschillende kiprollades, veel groenten zoals wortel met pastinaak, spruitjes met spekjes,bloemkool en broccoli, witte kool, aardappelpuree en geroosterde aardappels, heerlijke jus, 2 soorten stuffing (dit zijn kruidenballetjes, de een was met salie en de ander was met cranberries) en Yorkshire pudding (foto van internet, ik was vergeten foto's te maken). De tafel stond bomvol en bijna alles is opgegeten.

Son-in-law Kyle and our daughter had made an English dinner. This consisted of a beef roulade, 2 different chicken roulades, many vegetables such as carrot with parsnips, Brussels sprouts with bacon, cauliflower and broccoli, white cabbage, mashed and roasted potatoes, delicious gravy, 2 types of stuffing (these are herb balls, one was with sage and the other was with cranberries) and Yorkshire pudding (photo from the internet, I forgot to take pictures). The table was packed and almost everything was eaten.

Als toetje hadden we IJstaart d’arancio- & vanille ijs (Sinaasappelijs met pure chocolade gecombineerd met klassieke vanille) en die was me toch lekker.

For dessert we had ice cream cake d'arancio & vanilla ice cream (orange ice cream with dark chocolate combined with classic vanilla) and it was delicious.

 

Ik had voor de 3 kleindochters ook sokken gebreid. Het garen dat ik gebruikt had was van Flotte Socke Melody in de kleuren 3020, 3023 en 3024. De maat was van alle drie 26/27 want ze hebben nagenoeg dezelfde maat.

I also knitted socks for the 3 granddaughters. The yarn I used was from Flotte Socke Melody in the colors 3020, 3023 and 3024. The size of all three was EU 26/27 because they are almost the same size.

 

Ze konden niet wachten om ze aan te trekken en ze hebben ze verder ook de hele dag aangehad. Hier op rij van links naar rechts Loïs, Yara en Lana.

Twee weken geleden kwamen ook deze 2 strengen binnen van Crealien Design.

Het zijn zelfstrepende garens.

They are self-striping yarns.

 

En net voor kerst kwam het januari pakket binnen van S7ors. Een streng van 50 gram en 5 mini's van 20 gram met een paar extra dingen.

And just before Christmas the January package arrived from S7ors. A skein of 50 grams and 5 minis of 20 grams with a few extra things.

Olympic Games socks and summer tops granddaughters

Het lijkt wel of de dagen wegvliegen. Het is alweer 1 maand geleden dat ik mijn laatste berichtje schreef. Er zijn weer verschillende dingen gebreid, waaronder de Olympische Spelen sokken.
Deze werden gebreid met allemaal Opal garens, sommige uit series, sommige uit de abo's. Het eerste paar kreeg de boord, hak en teen in de medaille kleuren goud, zilver en brons.

It seems like the days are flying away. It's been 1 month since I wrote my last message. Several things have been knitted again, including the Olympic Games socks.
These were knitted with all Opal yarns, some from series, some from the subscriptions. The first pair received the cuff, heel and toe in the medal colors gold, silver and bronze.

Het 2e paar kreeg de boord, hak en teen in onze nationale kleur oranje.

The 2nd pair had the cuff, heel and toe in our national color orange.

Ook heb ik het derde zomertopje voor de jongste kleindochter Loïs af.  Ze is 3 jaar en dit is gemaakt in maat EU 104 (3-4 UK).

I also finished the summer top for our youngest granddaughter Loïs. She is 3 years old and this is made in size EU 104 (3-4 UK).

Patroon komt uit zomerboek 109 van @katiayarns.  Voor haar had ik ander garen gebruikt, dit is Le Bambou van Katia, 50 % katoen en 50% bamboo.

Pattern comes from summer book 109 by @katiayarns. For her I used a different yarn, this is Le Bambou from Katia, 50% cotton and 50% bamboo.

Met al het mooie weer van de laatste tijd is Mees constant buiten te vinden, soms in de zon, soms in de schaduw.

With all the nice weather lately, Mees can always be found outside, sometimes in the sun, sometimes in the shade.

Spelen met water vindt hij ook geweldig. Ik had 3 filmpjes opgenomen.

He also loves playing with water. I had recorded 3 videos.

En ook heb ik weer een paar goede boeken gelezen, waaronder De Griekse dochter en de Zwitserse dochter van Soraya Lane. Deze 2 boeken las ik in 3 dagen uit !

And I also read a few good books, including The Royal Daughter and The Sapphire Daughter by Soraya Lane. I read these 2 books in 3 days!

Dan 2 boeken van Hilde Veeren, het eerste boek heet Duinroos en het 2e boek Maretak. Ik kon deze boeken niet wegleggen, ze waren zo mooi. Romantiek en spanning in een boek.

Then 2 books by Hilde Veeren, the first book is called Duinroos and the 2nd book Maretak. I couldn't put these books down, they were so beautiful. Romance and suspense in one book. I don't know if they are transletted to English.

Ook het 2e boek uit de Kustdromen serie van Manuela Inusa was weer geweldig. Zon in de sinaasappelboomgaard en ik kijk alweer uit naar het 3e boek.

The 2nd book in the Kustdromen series by Manuela Inusa was also great again. Zon in de sinaasappelboomgaard and I'm already looking forward to the 3rd book. I don't know if they are transletted to English.

Tour de France socks and more

Dit was mijn tour-de-yarn mand 🚲. Ik had 24 kleuren sokkenwol opgedraaid en ongenummerd verpakt. Elke dag (gedurende de Tour de France) ging ik een paar naalden breien aan een paar sokken met een nieuwe kleur.

This was my tour-de-yarn basket 🚲. I had rolled up 24 colors of sock wool and packaged them unnumbered. Every day (during the Tour de France) I knitted a few needles on a pair of socks in a new color.

Waarom 24 kleuren als de wielrenners maar 21 dagen fietsen?
Ik gebruikte er 21 voor op de rit dagen, 2 voor op de rustdagen (ik fietste/breide gewoon door, had geen rust nodig) en ik begon al 1 dag eerder, namelijk al op de vrijdag, dit was de fiets/brei opwarm ronde.
Ik gebruikte 12 kleuren voor een paar sokken dus na de tour had ik 2 paar scrappy Tour de France sokken. De pakjes waren ongenummerd zodat het ook voor mij een verrassing zou zijn hoe de sokken eruit kwamen te zien.

Why 24 colors if the cyclists only cycle for 21 days?
I used 21 for the ride days, 2 for the rest days (I just kept cycling/knitting, didn't need any rest) and I started 1 day earlier, namely on Friday, this was the cycling/knit warm-up round.
I used 12 colors for one pair of socks so after the tour I had 2 pairs of scrappy Tour de France socks. The packages were unnumbered so that it would also be a surprise to me what the socks looked like.

Bij Tante Tuttebol kwam vorige de week de nieuwe Opal Regenwald 20 jarig jubileum collectie binnen. Die gingen uiteraard mee naar huis en ik begon, naast de Toursokken, meteen met de lieveheersbeestjes kleur 1208.

The new Opal Regenwald 20th anniversary collection arrived at my local yarnstore this week. Of course I took them all home and, in addition to the Tour socks, I immediately started with the ladybug color 1208.

In de tuin bloeien weer verschillende planten, het is echt genieten.

Various plants are blooming again in the garden, it is really enjoyable.

Op 26 juli beginnen ook de Olympische Spelen en jahoor ... ik heb besloten om ook 2 paar Olympische Spelen sokken te gaan breien, maar daarover meer in mijn volgende berichtje.

The Olympic Games also start on July 26 and yes ... I have decided to knit 2 pairs of Olympic Games socks, but more about that in my next message.
