I-Spy quilt for Loïs

Meer dan 1 maand geleden schreef ik mijn laatste berichtje hier. Ik was voornamelijk druk met het doorquilten van de I-Spy quilt voor kleindochter Loïs. 

More than a month ago I wrote my last message here. I was mainly busy quilting the I-Spy quilt for granddaughter Loïs.

De top stond al enige tijd in elkaar maar het doorquilten moest nog gedaan worden en aangezien ze vorige week op 6 september een half jaar geworden is, werd dit ook tijd.

The top had been put together for some time but the quilting still had to be done and since she turned six months last week on September 6, it was time too.

Nu kunnen ze samen plaatjes gaan zoeken op deze quilt of op de quilt van Lana die de haar quilt elke dag gebruikt.

Now they can look for pictures together on this quilt or on Lana's quilt who uses her quilt every day.

Ook de achterkant ziet er gezellig uit.

Ik koos voor een stof met 7 verschillende bosdieren die kleren aanhebben. Van elke diersoort is er een meisje en een jongetje. We zien vossen, konijnen, beren, eekhoorns, wasberen, muizen en uilen. Voor ik vragen hierover krijg, ik heb geen idee meer waar ik dit gekocht heb of van welke firma het is.

I chose a fabric with 7 different forest animals that have clothes on. There is a girl and a boy of every animal species. We see foxes, rabbits, bears, squirrels, raccoons, mice and owls.

Het stof was maar 110 cm breed, dus moest ik er iets op verzinnen zodat het breder werd. Aangezien het bosdieren zijn, maakte ik er een bospad langs van allerlei groene stofjes.

The fabric was only 110 cm wide, so I had to come up with something to make it wider. Since they are forest animals, I made a forest path along with all kinds of green fabrics.

Voor de afwerkbies koos ik een stof met (bos)aardbeien. De quilt is 130 cm x 152 cm (10 x 12 blokjes). Elk blokje is 13 x 13 cm.

For the binding I chose a fabric with (wild) strawberries. The quilt is 130 cm x 152 cm (10 x 12 blocks). Each block is 13 x 13 cm.

Oakworth socks and a lot more

Wat gaat de tijd toch snel, zeker als je tussendoor ook nog op een van je kleindochters oppast. Voor je het weet is het augustus.
Maar ik heb wel mijn Oakworth sokken afgekregen, een patroon van Kay Jones dat ze voor de Knitting University maakte op hun Patreon pagina. Ik heb alleen de teen veranderd. Het garen is Triologie (75% wol, 15% zijde, 10% linnen) van Maschenatelier in de kleur Seagrass.

Time flies so fast, especially if you also babysit one of your granddaughters in between. Before you know it, it is August.
But I did finish my Oakworth socks, a Kay Jones pattern she made for Knitting University on their Patreon page. I only changed the toe. The yarn is Triologie (75% wool, 15% silk, 10% linen) van Maschenatelier in the color Seagrass.

Verder ben ik sinds afgelopen week bezig met de I-Spy quilt voor kleindochter Loïs die al vanaf februari klaar was, maar door problemen met mijn hand was hij nog niet doorgequilt. Gelukkig gaat het nu beter, dus tijd om deze quilt  af te maken. Ik doe steeds een paar draadjes en dan wissel ik weer even af met mijn breiwerk.

Furthermore, since last week I've been working on the I-Spy quilt for granddaughter Loïs that was already finished in February, but due to problems with my hand it hadn't been quilted yet. Fortunately, things are better now, so time to finish this quilt. I do a few threads and then I alternate with my knitting.

De 3e rij van de Jelly Roll blanket is ook af. Ik vind hem echt geweldig. De lengte is ongeveer 150 cm. en ik ben inmiddels met de 4e rij gestart.

I also finished my 3th row of the Jelly Roll blanket. I love it so much. It is about 150 cm. long and I have now started with the 4th row.

Verder zijn er nog een paar dingen binnen gekomen waar ik een abonnement op heb. Als eerste het 3e verrassingspakket van The Log Cabin. Alles zit in het pakket om deze quilt te maken, zelfs de tussenvulling en achterkantstof. Deze keer een quilt met stitcheries.

A few more things have also come in that I have a subscription to. First up is the 3rd surprise package from The Log Cabin. Everything is included in the kit to make this quilt, even the batting and backing fabric. This time a quilt with stitcheries.

De juli Harry Potter Mysterie set van Nicole C Mendez was ook weer binnen. Dit is een 3 maanden abonnement met zelfstrepend garen. De kleur deze maand is Happee Birthdae Harry. Tenslotte was het 31 juli Harry's verjaardag.

The July Harry Potter Mystery set from Nicole C Mendez came. This is a 3 month subscription of selfstriping yarn. The color this month is Happee Birthdae Harry. After all on July 31st it was Harry's birthday.

Ik heb het garen tot een bol opgedraaid zodat je een beetje ziet hoe het streeppatroon verloopt.

I wind the yarn to a ball so you can see how the stripe pattern will be.

Tot slot had ik ook nog een paar mooie strengen besteld bij Atelier Sopra. Prachtige zachte kleuren die ik hoogstwaarschijnlijk gebruikt voor sokken met een patroon.

Finally, I also ordered a few beautiful strands from Atelier Sopra. Beautiful soft colors that I most likely use for patterned socks.

And here is our puppy

Afgelopen zaterdag was het dan zover, we konden onze puppy gaan ophalen. Na een uur waren we daar en puppy was met zijn broertje en moeder heerlijk buiten aan het spelen. Na een half uur hadden we al het papierwerk geregeld en kon hij mee naar huis. Op de terugweg sliep hij voornamelijk.

Last Saturday the time had come, we could pick up our puppy. After an hour we were there and the puppy was playing outside with his brother and mother. After half an hour we had arranged all the paperwork and he could go home with us. On the way back he mostly slept.

Eenmaal thuis hebben we hem meteen in de tuin gezet om zijn plasje te doen en ook om even te wennen.

Once home we immediately put him in the garden to do his pee and also to get used to his new garden.

 

Binnen ging hij alles verkennen en ook de bench in de keuken is goedgekeurd. Deze gebruiken we alleen voor als wij eens weg moeten (zolang hij pup is en niets kapot kan maken in de tijd dat we er dan niet zijn).

He explored everything inside and the bench in the kitchen was also approved. We only use this when we have to leave the house (as long as he is a puppy and cannot destroy anything during the time that we are not there).

Ook zijn mand in de woonkamer vind hij prima om in te liggen, hij sleept er nu al al zijn speelgoed naar toe.

He also likes his basket in the living room to lie in, he already drags all his toys to it.

Verder ligt er in de woonkamer ook nog een deken die overal kan liggen. Ik leg hem nu steeds op een plek waar ik zelf ook zit en dat vind hij wel gezellig om zo dicht bij ons te slapen overdag.

There is also a blanket in the living room that can lie anywhere. I now always put it in a place where I am myself and he likes that to sleep so close to us during the day.

's Nachts slaap hij in een bench naast ons bed en dat gaat heel goed. Hij slaapt al behoorlijk een paar uurtjes door. En nu willen jullie natuurlijk ook weten hoe hij heet. Zijn naam is Mees en hij heeft nu al ons hart veroverd.

At night he sleeps in a bench next to our bed and that goes very well. He has been sleeping for quite a few hours. And now you also want to know his name. His name is Mees (pronounced as Mace) and he has already captured our hearts.

Verder staat ook de top van de I-Spy quilt in elkaar en voor de achterkant gebruik ik dit stof vol met bosdieren (konijn, wasbeer, uil, vos, muis, beer, eekhoorn). Deze heb ik inmiddels iets breder gemaakt  met een groen bospad erlangs, zodat die de goede maat heeft. De quilt heb ik daarna gedubbeld en ik kan beginnen met doorquilten.

 

Furthermore, the top of the I-Spy quilt is also assembled and for the back I use this fabric full of forest animals (rabbit, raccoon, owl, fox, mouse, bear, squirrel). I have now made it slightly wider with a green forest path along it, so that it has the right size. Then I doubled the quilt and I can start quilting.

 

Now only a few days to wait

Nog een paar dagen en dan mogen wij zaterdagmiddag deze mooie jongen eindelijk gaan ophalen na al die weken wachten. De naam maken we nog niet bekend, tenslotte willen we er ook zeker van zijn dat de naam die wij uitgekozen hebben ook echt bij hem past.

Only a few days to wait and then we can finally pick up this beautiful boy on Saturday afternoon after all those weeks of waiting. We will not announce the name yet, after all we also want to make sure that the name we have chosen really suits him.

Op 1 februari kwam de postbode met het Scheepjeswol garen (Metropolis) wat ik besteld had bij Woll of Fame, net op tijd, want die dag begon de valenvent Kal van  Kay Jones. Elke dag kregen wij (de patreons) een stukje van de Amore Sampler socks. Na 14 februari was het patroon voor iedereen te koop op Ravelry.

On February 1 the postman came with my Scheepjeswol yarn (Metropolis) which I ordered at Woll of Fame, just on time, because that day the valenvent KAL from Kay Jones started. Each day we (the patreons) got a piece of the Amore Sampler socks. After February 14 everyone else can buy the pattern on Ravely.

Ik kon niet bij blijven elke dag, maar op 10 februari had ik de 1e sok af. Sok 2 zal net iets anders worden.

I couldn't knit each day the part we got, but on February 10 I finished the first sock. Sock 2 will be a bit different.

Verder ben ik druk bezig met de I-Spy quilt voor 3e kleindochter, die rond 10 maart geboren gaat worden. De lapjes zijn 13 x 13 cm zonder naad en de quilt gaat 130 cm x 156 cm worden.

I am also busy with the I-Spy quilt for my 3th granddaughter which will be born around March 10. The pieces are 13 x 13 cm without seam, so the quilt will be 130 cm x 156 cm (52" x 62").

I-Spy quilt for Yara

Allereerst bedankt voor de lieve felicitaties op de geboorte van kleindochter Yara. De I-Spy quilt hebben we afgelopen woensdag afgegeven en ik hoop dat Yara er veel plezier van zal hebben.

First of all thank you for the congratulations on the birth of granddaughter Yara. We gave the I-Spy quilt last Wednesday and I hope Yara will enjoy it.

Op de voorkant uiteraard ook een lapje met Star Wars figuren (zie vorig berichtje)

en voor de achterkant nam ik een Wizard of Oz stof en maakte ik een bijbehorende gele weg.

Ik krijg wel eens vragen wat een I-Spy quilt is. In het Nederlands zeggen wij: Ik zie, ik zie, wat jij niet ziet. De I-Spy quilt, een quilt die voor uren speelplezier kan zorgen, maar ook troost kan bieden als ze ziek op de bank liggen.

I sometimes get asked what an I-Spy quilt is. In Dutch we say: I see, I see, what you do not see. The I-Spy quilt, a quilt that can provide hours of fun, but also comfort when they are sick on the couch.

The last two weeks

Ik heb zoveel te vertellen over de laatste 2 weken, dat ik het maar in dagboek vorm opschrijf.

11 mei: 

Michiel heeft de aankomende 2 weken vakantie. 's Avonds kwamen zoon Niels en schoondochter Irene een prachtige bos bloemen brengen, omdat het gisteren moederdag was (helaas staat de foto zijwaarts en ik krijg hem niet gedraaid).

I have so much to say about the last 2 weeks that I write it down in diary form.

May 11:

Michiel has the next 2 weeks vacation. In the evening son Niels and daughter-in-law Irene brought a beautiful bunch of flowers, because it was Mother's Day yesterday (unfortunately the picture is sideways and I can't get it rotated).

12 mei:

Het maandelijkse wolletje van Piratenwolle is ook binnen. Voor mei is het de kleur Krabat.

May 12:

The monthly yarn from Piratenwolle arrived. For the month may it is Krabat.

15 mei:

Mijn april wolletje van de Warme Voeten club van Atelier Het Wolbeest was vorige week ook aangekomen. Thema dit jaar is Beatrix Potter. Erbij zat weer een mini streng, thee en iets van chocola. Ook een stitchmarker van Chapel view crafts in de vorm van een hommel. Deze maand is het Mr Jackson.

May 15:

I recieved my April yarn from the Warme Voetenclub (warm feet club) from Atelier Het Wolbeestt. Theme this year is Beatrix Potter. Also included is a mini skein, tea, chocolate and a Bumblebee stitchmarker from Chapel view crafts. This month it is Mr Jackson.

16 mei:
Bijna klaar met de I-Spy quilt, nog een klein stukje van de bies vast zetten en dan wachten tot mijn 2e kleinkind geboren is, zodat ik een label met naam op de achterkant kan naaien.

May 16:
I'm almost done with the I-Spy quilt, just a little bit of sewing on the binding. Then I have to wait till my second grandchild is born, so I can sew on the label to the back with the name.

Bowy slaapt veel de laatste tijd, hij wordt oud (volgende maand 15 jaar).

Bowy is sleeping much lately, he is getting old ( next month 15 year).

17 mei:
En vandaag is Michiel jarig. Als verjaardagcadeau mocht hij een mooie telescoop uitzoeken die hij kan gebruiken tijdens zijn natuur wandelingen en bij de vogeltellingen die hij doet voor de plaatselijke vogelvereniging. Gisteren al heerlijke Custard en chocolade crumblies gebakken voor vandaag, naar een recept van de Bakery Bears. Het recept staat op youtube (bakery bears podcast aflevering 150).

May 17:
Today it is Michiel's birthday. As a birthday present I let him choose a nice telescope that he can use during his nature walks and the bird counts he does for the local bird association. Yesterday I baked the Custard and chocolate crumblies for today, a recipe from the Bakery Bears. You can find the recipe on youtube (bakery bears podcast episode 150).

18 mei:
De I-Spy quilt is helemaal af, nu is het wachten op de geboorte van het kleine wondertje (ik schrijf dit op 25 mei, Irene is nu ruim 39 weken zwanger en de kleine zit nog steeds lekker warm in mama's buik).

May 18:
The I-Spy quilt is finished, now we are waiting for the little one to get born (I write this on May 25, Irene is now more than 39 weeks pregnant and the little one is still nice and warm in mom's belly).
 

De 2e zending van mijn Opal abo kwam ook binnen, het zijn weer 6 prachtige kleuren.

The second shipment of my Opal abo came today, I love all the six colors.

19 mei:
Vandaag naar de The Log Cabin in Hillensberg geweest, inclusief mondkapje want dat is in Duitsland verplicht. Maar het was heerlijk om weer bij te kletsen met Jacqueline en ik heb super leuke stofjes, gevonden voor bij mijn Beatrix Potter stoffen uit Engeland.

May 19:
Today we went to quiltshop The Log Cabin in Hillensberg (Germany) and it was a wonderful day. I found some beautiful fabrics, that goes wonderful with my Beatrix Potter fabrics from England.

Verder nog 3 scrapzakjes en een ring voor mijn spoeltjes. Al met al een heerlijke dag.

I also bought some scrap bags and a bobbin ring.

21 mei:
Heerlijk om nu in de tuin te zitten en te breien.

May 21:
Wonderful time to knit in the garden.

Kleur 5 van de Sunshower sjaal van Ambah O'Brien is ook weer gebreid. Het garen is de 12 days advent kalender 2018 van Strawberry Fields Yarns ( boek thema).

Color 5 has been add to the Sunshower shawl from Ambah O'Brien. The yarn is the 12 days advent calendar 2018 from Strawberry Fields Yarns (book theme).

22 mei:
De post bracht me zojuist weer wat leesvoer. Altijd fijn om wat in voorraad te hebben.

May 22:
Just now the post brought me some books from Lucinda Riley. Always nice to have some books in the house that you haven't read.

En dan nog een paar foto's van Lana die inmiddels 5 1/2 maand is.

Begin van de maand moest ze naar de huisarts om haar (voor dit jaar) laatste 3 injecties te gaan halen.

At the beginning of this month she had to go to the doctor to get her last 3 injections (for this year).

Daarna was ze helemaal uitgeteld van al het huilen.

After that she was completely exhausted from all the crying.

En dan een selfie maken zodat je een leuke foto naar oma kunt sturen, maar tegelijkertijd schrik je ervan.
