Advent day 7

Voordat de kerstbal geïntroduceerd werd, hing men papieren slingers, appels en figuurtjes in de boom. Dankzij de opkomst van de glasblazerij in Oost-Europa in de negentiende eeuw kwam hier verandering in. In 1831 blies glasblazer Linder uit de Vogezen de eerste glazen kerstbal. In die tijd werden er voornamelijk appels gebruikt als decoratie in de Vogezen, maar door grote droogte die winter waren appels en noten een schaarste. De glasblazer besloot een grote kraal te blazen. De inspiratiebron hiervoor was waarschijnlijk de oudere heksenbal. De kerstbal was geboren. Zijn idee veroverde vervolgens de wereld.
