Advent day 17

Kerstmis wordt ook wel het lichtfeest genoemd. Door christenen wordt dan de geboorte van Jezus Christus gevierd. De oorsprong ligt net wat verder weg.
De Germanen vierden rond midwinter (21 december) reeds midwinter- of joelfeesten (winterzonnewende) waarbij het boze werd verjaagd en het licht werd begroet. In de Scandinavische talen heet Kerstmis tot op vandaag jul.

Christmas is also called the light festival. Christians then celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The origin is just a little further away.
The Germanic people already celebrated mid-winter or Yule (mid-winter solstice) during the winter solstice, where the evil was chased away and the light greeted. In the Scandinavian languages, Christmas is called Jul today.
