The last two weeks

Ik heb zoveel te vertellen over de laatste 2 weken, dat ik het maar in dagboek vorm opschrijf.

11 mei: 

Michiel heeft de aankomende 2 weken vakantie. 's Avonds kwamen zoon Niels en schoondochter Irene een prachtige bos bloemen brengen, omdat het gisteren moederdag was (helaas staat de foto zijwaarts en ik krijg hem niet gedraaid).

I have so much to say about the last 2 weeks that I write it down in diary form.

May 11:

Michiel has the next 2 weeks vacation. In the evening son Niels and daughter-in-law Irene brought a beautiful bunch of flowers, because it was Mother's Day yesterday (unfortunately the picture is sideways and I can't get it rotated).

12 mei:

Het maandelijkse wolletje van Piratenwolle is ook binnen. Voor mei is het de kleur Krabat.

May 12:

The monthly yarn from Piratenwolle arrived. For the month may it is Krabat.

15 mei:

Mijn april wolletje van de Warme Voeten club van Atelier Het Wolbeest was vorige week ook aangekomen. Thema dit jaar is Beatrix Potter. Erbij zat weer een mini streng, thee en iets van chocola. Ook een stitchmarker van Chapel view crafts in de vorm van een hommel. Deze maand is het Mr Jackson.

May 15:

I recieved my April yarn from the Warme Voetenclub (warm feet club) from Atelier Het Wolbeestt. Theme this year is Beatrix Potter. Also included is a mini skein, tea, chocolate and a Bumblebee stitchmarker from Chapel view crafts. This month it is Mr Jackson.

16 mei:
Bijna klaar met de I-Spy quilt, nog een klein stukje van de bies vast zetten en dan wachten tot mijn 2e kleinkind geboren is, zodat ik een label met naam op de achterkant kan naaien.

May 16:
I'm almost done with the I-Spy quilt, just a little bit of sewing on the binding. Then I have to wait till my second grandchild is born, so I can sew on the label to the back with the name.

Bowy slaapt veel de laatste tijd, hij wordt oud (volgende maand 15 jaar).

Bowy is sleeping much lately, he is getting old ( next month 15 year).

17 mei:
En vandaag is Michiel jarig. Als verjaardagcadeau mocht hij een mooie telescoop uitzoeken die hij kan gebruiken tijdens zijn natuur wandelingen en bij de vogeltellingen die hij doet voor de plaatselijke vogelvereniging. Gisteren al heerlijke Custard en chocolade crumblies gebakken voor vandaag, naar een recept van de Bakery Bears. Het recept staat op youtube (bakery bears podcast aflevering 150).

May 17:
Today it is Michiel's birthday. As a birthday present I let him choose a nice telescope that he can use during his nature walks and the bird counts he does for the local bird association. Yesterday I baked the Custard and chocolate crumblies for today, a recipe from the Bakery Bears. You can find the recipe on youtube (bakery bears podcast episode 150).

18 mei:
De I-Spy quilt is helemaal af, nu is het wachten op de geboorte van het kleine wondertje (ik schrijf dit op 25 mei, Irene is nu ruim 39 weken zwanger en de kleine zit nog steeds lekker warm in mama's buik).

May 18:
The I-Spy quilt is finished, now we are waiting for the little one to get born (I write this on May 25, Irene is now more than 39 weeks pregnant and the little one is still nice and warm in mom's belly).
 

De 2e zending van mijn Opal abo kwam ook binnen, het zijn weer 6 prachtige kleuren.

The second shipment of my Opal abo came today, I love all the six colors.

19 mei:
Vandaag naar de The Log Cabin in Hillensberg geweest, inclusief mondkapje want dat is in Duitsland verplicht. Maar het was heerlijk om weer bij te kletsen met Jacqueline en ik heb super leuke stofjes, gevonden voor bij mijn Beatrix Potter stoffen uit Engeland.

May 19:
Today we went to quiltshop The Log Cabin in Hillensberg (Germany) and it was a wonderful day. I found some beautiful fabrics, that goes wonderful with my Beatrix Potter fabrics from England.

Verder nog 3 scrapzakjes en een ring voor mijn spoeltjes. Al met al een heerlijke dag.

I also bought some scrap bags and a bobbin ring.

21 mei:
Heerlijk om nu in de tuin te zitten en te breien.

Wonderful time to knit in the garden.

Kleur 5 van de Sunshower sjaal van Ambah O'Brien is ook weer gebreid. Het garen is de 12 days advent kalender 2018 van Strawberry Fields Yarns ( boek thema).

22 mei:
De post bracht me zojuist weer wat leesvoer. Altijd fijn om wat in voorraad te hebben.

Just now the post brought me some books from Lucinda Riley. Always nice to have some books in the house that you haven't read.

Begin van de maand moest ze naar de huisarts om haar (voor dit jaar) laatste 3 injecties te gaan halen.

At the beginning of this month she had to go to the doctor to get her last 3 injections (for this year).

Daarna was ze helemaal uitgeteld van al het huilen.

After that she was completely exhausted from all the crying.

En dan een selfie maken zodat je een leuke foto naar oma kunt sturen, maar tegelijkertijd schrik je ervan.

And then take a selfie so that you can send a nice photo to grandma, but at the same time you are shocked.

Start quilting

Quilt voor kleindochter nummer 2 is gedubbeld, ik kan met doorquilten beginnen.

I sandwich the quilt for granddaughter number 2, so I can start with the hand quilting.

Zes avonden waren er nodig om deze 2 boeken van Debbie Johnson te lezen en het was elke minuut waard. Wat heb ik hiervan genoten 😍.

In six evenings I read these two books from Debbie Johnson and it was worth every minute. I enjoyed it very much 😍.
The English titles are Summer at the comfort food café and Christmas at the comfort food café.

Lots of sewing

Zondag had ik de lapjes voor de I-spy quilt gesneden en op maandag en dinsdag alle 120 lapjes aan elkaar gezet.

Sunday I cut all the pieces for the I-Spy quilt. On Monday and Tuesday I sewed all 120 pieces together.

Gisteren heb ik een achterkant gemaakt en vandaag kan de quilt gedubbeld worden en kan ik met doorquilten beginnen.

Yesterday I made a backing fabric for it. Now time to sandwich the quilt and I can start with the hand quilting.

Umbrella socks finished

De umbrella sokken zijn af. Wat was dit een leuk patroon om te breien. Mijn eerste toe-up sokken (niet met de boord maar met de teen begonnen).

Dochter Lindy was afgelopen zaterdag jarig. Ze werd 34 jaar en ze stuurde deze leuke foto waar ze samen met haar dochter Lana (4 1/2 maand oud) op staat.

Daughter Lindy had her birthday last Saturday. She is now 34 years old and she sent this nice photo from her and her daughter Lana (4 1/2 months old).

En deze 2 foto's stuurde ze ook nog van Lana, wat een dotje is het toch.

She also send these 2 pictures of Lana, she is such a sweetheart.

In het weekend bezig geweest met lapjes snijden voor nog een I-Spy quilt. Het wordt tijd dat ik eraan begin want 2e kleinkind wordt eind mei verwacht

This weekend I cut all the pieces for another I-Spy quilt. It is time that I start because 2nd grandchild is expected at the end of May.

Dit boek van Astrid Harrewijn, De stroopwafelshop was weer zo'n boek dat je meteen uit wilt lezen. Ik deed er 3 avonden over.

This book by Astrid Harrewijn, De stroopwafelshop was another book that you want to read right away. It took me 3 evenings. I don't think this book is in another language.

New socks and other things

Op 22 april ben ik begonnen met de Umbrella socks van Kay Jones. Ik had nog nooit sokken gebreit waarbij je met de teen begint, maar na het zien van Kay's tutorial (de link staat op het patroon) was het heel makkelijk om te starten.

On April 22 I started the Umbrella socks from Kay Jones. Never done toe up socks, but after seeing Kay's tutorial (link is on the pattern) it was very easy to start.

Het garen dat ik gebruik is Zig Zag van King Cole in de kleur 3251 Lime. Ik kocht dit afgelopen januari toen we in Engeland waren. Voor de boorden, hielen en tenen gebruik ik Drops Fabel, kleur 104 paars.

The yarn that I use is Zig Zag from King Cole in the color 3251 Lime. I bought this yarn last January when we were in England. For the cuffs, heels and toes I use Drops Fabel, color 104 purple.

Gisteren was ik bijna klaar met de boorden van de sokken, daarna kan ik de hielen gaan breien.

Yesterday I was almost done with the cuffs of the socks, then it is time for the heels. 

Vorige week ontving ik ook mijn Litmus cowl kit van Duckydarlings Yarns en het garen is geweldig. De samenstelling is 70% SW merino, 20% Yak, 10% Nylon.  Het patroon is een gratis patroon van Amy Florence op Ravelry.

Last week I received my Litmus cowl kit from Duckydarlings Yarns and the yarn is so beautiful. The base is 70% SW merino, 20% Yak, 10% Nylon. The cowl is a free pattern from Amy Florence which you can find on Ravelry.

Momenteel is er volop geluid in onze tuin. Tot nu toe hebben wij 14 kikkers geteld in onze vijver en ze kwaken wat af. Geluid aan ! 

EDIT: nadat we er 10 uitgezet hadden de volgende dag in een nabij glegen sloot, bleken we er nadien weer ruim 12 te tellen.

At the moment there is plenty of noise in our garden. So far we have counted 14 frogs in our pond and they make plenty of noise. Sound on!

Verder ben ik zo blij met nog een Beatrix Potter boek. Ik had al een Engelse versie met 14 verhalen, maar nu ook een Nederlands boek met 27 verhalen. Super blij mee.

I'm so happy with another Beatrix Potter book. I already had an English version with 14 stories, but now also a Dutch book with 27 stories. Very happy with it.

In dit boek staan ook veel verhaaltjes die niet in het Engelse boek staan.

In this book there are many stories that are not in the English version.

Gisteren kwamen ook de mooie strengen van Bollekes wol binnen, ben er zo blij mee. De kleuren zijn om te zoenen.

Yesterday I received the beautiful skeins from Bollekes wol, so happy with it. The colors are so pretty.

Tea at Downton socks

Mijn Tea at Downton sokken zijn af en ik ben er zo blij mee. Het ajour patroontje was een genot om te breien en ik ben ook heel tevreden met de kleuren.

My Tea at Downton socks are finished and I'm really happy with it. The lace pattern was a joy to knit and I'm also happy with the colors I used.

Het patroon is van Kay van de Bakery Bears en is te vinden op Ravelry. Het gespikkelt garen (heeft geen naam) is van Bollekes wol en daarvan gebruikte ik 50 gram.

De goudgele mini streng is van LamingtonLass Yarns en daarvan gebruikte ik 17 gram. De sok blokkers zijn van The Knitting Shed.

The pattern is from Kay of the Bakery bears and can be found on Ravelry. The speckled yarn (has no name) is from Bollekes wol and I used 50 grams.

The gold yellow mini skein is from LamingtonLass Yarns and from that I used 17 grams. The sock blockers are from The Knitting Shed.

En dan wil ik nog even dit boek laten zien: Liefde met een parasolletje, geschreven door Abby Clements. Het gaat over 2 zussen die een ijswinkel erven van hun oma en wat heb ik genoten van dit verhaal. Ik las het boek in 3 avonden (op bed) uit.

And then I want to show you this book (picture is showing the Dutch cover): The heavenly ice cream shop by Abby Clements. It is about 2 sisters who inherit an ice cream shop from their grandmother and I enjoyed this story so much. I finished the book in 3 evenings (in bed).

Perfectly square blanket is finished

Op 29 maart begonnen met deze schootdeken en op 19 april was hij af. Dat waren 22 dagen haakplezier.

I started the lap blanket on March 29 and finished it on April 19. That was 22 days of crochet fun.

Het patroon is Perfectly Squares, wat ik vond in een tutorial van Kay Jones van de Bakery Bears op hun Patreon groep.

The pattern is called Perfectly Squares, which I found in a tutorial from Kay Jones from the Bakery Bears on their Patreon group.

Het gekleurde garen komt van mijn Opal advent kalender uit 2017 en ik nam de 6 kleuren van mijn Opal ABO van maart. Van elke kleur gebruikte ik bijna 15 gram, dat maakt 30 x 15 gram = 450 gram.

Het grijze garen is Drops Fabel in de kleur 114. Om alle blokken te omranden had ik 80 gram nodig en voor de buitenste rand 70 gram. In toaal gebruikte ik 150 gram.

The colored yarn comes from my 2017 Opal advent calendar and I took the 6 colors from my March Opal ABO. I used almost 15 grams of each color, which makes 30 x 15 grams = 450 grams.
The gray yarn is Drops Fabel in the color 114. To border all blocks I needed 80 grams and for the outer border 70 grams. In total I used 150 grams.

Ik heb haaknaald 3 gebruikt en de deken is in totaal 90 cm x 100 cm. Perfect om op je schoot te leggen als je het koud hebt.

I used crochet hook 3 mm. and the blanket measures 90 cm x 100 cm (35.5" x 40") in total. Perfect for laying on your lap when you are cold.

Om  de blokken aan elkaar te zetten gebruikte ik de As-you-go methode, zoals HIER te zien op youtube. Voor de rand gebruikte ik niet echt een patroon. Het schulprandje zijn steeds *5 stokjes, halve vaste in volgend gaatje* en dit steeds herhalen. op de hoeken deed ik 9 stokjes.

To assemble the blocks I used the As-you-go method, as you can see HERE on youtube. I didn't really use a pattern for the border. The scallops are always (in UK terms) *5 treble crochets , slip stitch in next hole* and repeat this. On the corners I did 9 treble crochets.

Dan waren er nog wat garens aangekomen.  De april streng van Piratenwolle ...

Twee weken geleden kwam Het Wolbeest met haar advent kalenders. Ze heeft keuze uit 3 thema's en 4 kleuren combinaties. Tot 5 mei is er nog een early bird korting. Ik koos voor de Beatrix Potter kalender, te zien in het vorige bericht. Maar ze heeft ook een kalender met allemaal zoete kleuren, genaamd Sweet Tooth en ik kreeg deze niet uit mijn hoofd, dus gisteren heb ik deze erbij besteld.

Two weeks ago Het Wolbeest came with her advent calendars. She has a choice of 3 themes and 4 color combinations. There is an early bird discount until May 5. I choose for the Beatrix Potter calendar, which you can see in precious post. But she also has a calendar with soft sweet colors, named Sweet Tooth,  and I couldn't get it out of my head, so yesterday I ordered this one also.
