Promenade socks finished

Direct nadat ik mijn Opal sokken af had ben ik verder gegaan met de Promenade sokken van Kay Jones. Ik was hier vorig jaar al mee begonnen en ik kon nu direct met de hakken beginnen.

Immediately after I finished my Opal socks, I continued with the Promenade socks from Kay Jones. I had already started these last year and I could now start with the heels immediately.

Het garen is van de set die ik gewonnen had bij Rosy garn vorig jaar. Ik vind ze prachtig geworden. Je kunt het patroon vinden op Ravelry.

Afgelopen vrijdag was ook mijn zoon Niels jarig die 38 kaarsjes mocht uitblazen en zaterdag zijn we daar geweest om het te vieren.
Op vrijdag kwamen ook de hele mooie strengen van Het Wolbeest binnen. Ik had ze op Instagram gezien.

Last Friday it was also my son Niels' birthday who could blow out 38 candles and on Saturday we went there to celebrate.
On friday came also the very nice skeins from Het Wolbeest. I had seen them on Instagram.

De strengen zijn van de Apple Blossem set, dat worden weer mooie warme sokken. Voor de roze streng had ik meteen een mooie patroon in gedachte.

De laatste paar dagen is het heerlijk weer om buiten te zitten, wat ik dan ook graag doe. Nadat de Promenade sokken af waren, heb ik de roze streng opgedraaid en ben begonnen met de Village Fete sokken, ook een patroon van Kay Jones.

The last few days the weather has been lovely to sit outside, which I like to do. After the Promenade socks were finished, I wound up the pink skein and started with the Village Fete socks, also a pattern from Kay Jones.

Als ik buiten zit te breien dan zet ik vaak een luisterboek aan. Ik zag bij de online bibliotheek een boek staan van een voor mij onbekende schrijfster, het blijkt haar debuut roman te zijn. De verborgen apotheek van Sarah Penner. Ik kan jullie vertellen dat het een onwijs prachtig boek is, hoewel ik pas aan hoofdstuk 16 (van de 43) ben. Wat een heerlijk verhaal is dit, een echte aanrader.

When I'm knitting outside, I often turn on an audiobook. I saw a book at the online library by a writer unknown to me, it turns out to be her debut novel. The lost apothecary by Sarah Penner. I can tell you it's an incredibly beautiful book, although I'm only on chapter 16 (out of 43). What a wonderful story this is, highly recommended.

En mees is altijd dicht in de buurt.

Vrijdagmiddag was ik ook terug bij de neuroloog geweest die donderdag een gesprek heeft gehad met de neurochirurg in Maastricht en die gaan me nu binnen 3 weken oproepen om te komen voor een 1e gesprek waarin ze het gaan hebben over wat de mogelijkheden zijn en de voor- en nadelen van een operatie.
Schijnbaar is het weghalen van de tumor rond de ruggenwervel behoorlijk risocovol, maar zoals ik al tegen haar zei, laten zitten is zeker geen optie want dan krijg ik steeds meer uitval van ledematen. Ik wordt opgeroepen door het ziekenhuis in Heerlen, omdat ik de neuroloog verteld had dat ik geen goede ervaringen heb met het ziekenhuis in Maastricht. In Heerlen zitten verder dezelfde specialisten als in Maastricht.

Friday afternoon I went back to the neurologist who had a meeting with the neurosurgeon in Maastricht on Thursday and they will now call me within 3 weeks to come for a 1st meeting in which they will discuss the possibilities and the advantages and disadvantages of surgery.
Apparently removing the tumor around the spine is quite risky, but as I told her, leaving it in is definitely not an option because then I will get more and more limb loss. I am called up by the hospital in Heerlen, because I had told the neurologist that I have not had good experiences with the Maastricht hospital. The same specialists from Maastricht are also located in Heerlen.

Opal socks and not so good MRI news

Gisteren zijn mijn Coffee Bean sokken afgekomen. Ze zijn gebreid met een bol uit de Opal abo maart 2022. Voor de hak heb ik Durable Soqs in de kleur Antique Pink gebruikt. Het is verder een gewone sok met aan de zijkant een koffieboon patroontje dat ik haalde uit een gratis patroon op Ravelry (klik).

Yesterday I finished my Coffee Bean socks. They are knitted with a ball from the Opal abo March 2022. For the heel I used Durable Soqs in the color Antique Pink. It is a vanilla sock with a coffee bean pattern on the side that I got from a free pattern on Ravelry (click). 

Dinsdag ben ik bij de neuroloog geweest die helaas niet echt leuk nieuws had. Er blijkt een tumor te zitten rond de ruggenwervel ergens ter hoogte tussen mijn nek en schouderbladen. Het goede nieuws is wel dat het een gladde tumor is en ze denkt ook dat hij goedaardig is, maar dat weet je pas 100% zeker als ze er een stukje uithalen en onderzoeken.

Tuesday I had my appointment  with the neurologist who unfortunately didn't have really good news. Turns out there is a tumor around the spine somewhere between my neck and shoulder blades. The good news is that it's a smooth tumor and she also thinks it's benign, but you won't be 100% sure until they take a piece out and examine it.

De neuroloog heeft vandaag overleg met oncologie Maastricht over de mogelijkheden en dat krijg ik morgenmiddag van haar te horen.
Laten zitten is niet echt een optie omdat het op de zenuwen begint te drukken en dat is de reden waardoor ik nu ook zo moeilijk loop.
Een operatie is ook niet geheel zonder risico zei ze, maar ze wil eerst horen wat Maastricht vandaag te zeggen heeft. 

The neurologist will have a consultation with oncology Maastricht today about the possibilities and I will hear that from her tomorrow afternoon.
To keep it in that place isn't really an option because it's starting to press on the spine  and that's why I have such a hard time walking. An operation will not be completely without risk, she said, but she first wants to hear what Maastricht has to say today.

Ik ga in elk geval niet stilzitten, daar heb ik geen tijd voor. Nu ik mijn Opal sokken af heb, ga ik verder met een paar sokken waar ik vorig jaar augustus al mee begonnen ben. Tijd om die eens af te maken.
Vanmorgen ook bij de revalidatiearts geweest voor een intake gesprek. De uitval die ik momenteel heb aan mijn benen veroorzaakt door de tumor, noemt hij een dwarslaesie. Er schijnen veel vormen van dwarslaesies te zijn, weer wat geleerd. Hij kan pas met revalidatie beginnen als ik hieraan geholpen ben. eerst maar even afwachten wat morgen de neuroloog te vertellen heeft.

In any case, I'm not going to sit still, I don't have time for that. Now that I've finished my Opal socks, I'll continue with a pair of socks that I started last August. Time to finish that pair.
I went to the rehabilitation doctor this morning for an intake interview. He calls what I currently have in my legs caused by the tumor as a spinal cord injury. There seem to be many forms of spinal cord injuries, I didn't know that. He can't start rehabilitation until I've been helped. First let's wait and see what the neurologist has to say tomorrow.

De 1e zending van mijn Opal abonnement van 2022 (4x per jaar 6 bollen) kwam ook een paar dagen geleden binnen en ik vind de kleuren weer geweldig. 

The first shipment of my Opal abo of 2022 (4 times 6 balls in a year) came a few days back and I love all the colors.

Ik had ook tegelijkertijd 2 ballen Opal Beauty meebesteld, want dat wilde ik eens uitproberen.

Gisteren bijna anderhalf uur in de mri gelegen voor hoofd en wervelkolom waarvan de laatste 10 min. met contrastvloeistof. Diegene die me 2 weken geleden tijdens de mri complimenteerde met mijn zelf gebreide sokken was er weer en ze riep er nu zelfs een assistent bij om mijn sokken te bewonderen. Ik droeg gisteren de Snow Forest sokken, ook een patroon van Kay Jones. Hopelijk krijg ik dinsdag een goede uitslag.

This morning I was in the MRI for almost an hour and a half for the head and spine, the last 10 minutes with contrast fluid. The one who complimented me on my self-knitted socks 2 weeks ago during the MRI was back and she now even called an assistant to admire my socks. I wore the Snow Forest socks yesterday, also a pattern from Kay Jones. Hopefully I get a good result on Tuesday.

Ik liet hierboven de nieuwe Opal abo zien en met de bal linksboven ben ik inmiddels begonnen aan een nieuwe sok. Ik kan al met de hiel beginnen.

I showed the new Opal subscription above and with the ball at the top left I have now started on a new sock. I can already start with the heel.

Van Nicole C. Mendez heb ik 18 maanden lang de Harry Potter  mystery streng ontvangen en ik ben nu overgestapt op de Outlander mystery streng. Dit is ook weer een 3 maanden abonnement met zelfstrepend garen.

De eerste streng is inmiddels binnen en de kleur heet Craigh na Dun. Ik vind de kleur geweldig en ik heb al een patroon in gedachte voor deze streng.

I received the Harry Potter mystery skein from Nicole C. Mendez for 18 months and have now switched to the Outlander mystery skein. This is also a 3 month subscription with self-striping yarn.
The first skein has now arrived and the color is called Craigh na Dun. I love the color and I already have a pattern in mind for this skein.

Op 31 maart verscheen het boek De wijsheid van de heks van Susan Smit, een vervolg op haar boek Heks wat ze 20 jaar eerder geschreven heeft. Dat boek las ik toendertijd in 1 dag uit.

I bought this new book, it is from a Dutch writer and I really want to read it.

Verder heb ik afgelopen week ook de uitslag gekregen van de mri die in opdracht van de orthopeed was gemaakt gekregen. Er was slijtage te zien aan mijn rechterheup, maar de orthopeed denkt dat de hevige pijn toch eerder met mijn rug te maken heeft. Hij wil dan ook de uitslag van de mri afwachten die gisteren is gemaakt voor hij stappen onderneemt.

Last week I also got the results of the MRI that was made on behalf of the orthopedist. There was wear and tear on my right hip, but the orthopedist thinks that the severe pain is more related to my back. He therefore wants to wait for the results of the MRI that was made yesterday before taking any steps.

 

Rye Light socks finished

Afgelopen woensdag 23 maart ben ik bij de neuroloog geweest voor mijn benen die nog steeds zo raar doen nadat ik corona kreeg laatst oktober. Ook zij wil dat ik een mri scan laat maken van mijn wervelkolom en hoofd. Ik heb hiervoor een combinatie afspraak staan op 8 april. Helaas kon deze niet gekombineerd worden met de mri scan die ik afgelopen vrijdag moest laten maken.
De laatste dagen heb ik alleen gebreid omdat ik mijn handen even rust wilde gunnen van het kleine quiltnaaldje. Deze sokken heb ik in precies 1 week gebreid. Het garen is van de Opal abo December 2021 en het patroon heet Rye Light.

Last wednesday March 23 I went to the neurologist for my legs that still act so weird after I got corona last October. She also wants me to have an MRI scan of my spine and head. I have a combination appointment for this on April 8th. Unfortunately, this could not be combined with the MRI scan that I had to have made last Friday.
The last few days I have only knitted because I wanted to give my hands a rest from the small quilting needle. I knitted these socks in exactly 1 week. The yarn is from the Opal abo December 2021 and the pattern is called Rye Light.

Afgelopen vrijdag maart 25 zijn we eerst met Mees naar de dierenarts geweest voor een aantal inentingen

Last friday we first took Mees to the vet for some vaccinations 

en daarna hebben we meteen de nieuwe quiltmania opgehaald bij Quiltstudio Patch & Stitch.
's Middags komplimenteerde diegene die de mri scan bij me maakte (mri scan voor mijn heup), me met mijn mooie vrolijke sokken die ik hierboven liet zien. Zij deed ook sokken breien.

That afternoon the person who made the MRI scan (MRI scan for my hip)complimented me with my beautiful cheerful socks that I showed here above. She also knit socks.

10 maart
De Sterrenregen quilt staat in elkaar, begonnen op 13 februari. Er komt alleen nog een smalle rand omheen,  maar die moet ik in de winkel uit gaan zoeken.

March 10
The Starry Rain quilt is completed, started on February 13th. There will only be a small border around it,  but I have to look for fabric  in a store.  

12 maart
Gisteren bij de orthopeed geweest vanwege mijn jarenlange pijnklachten aan rechterheup. Ik krijg op 25 maart hiervoor een mri scan.
Daarna naar Quiltstudio Patch & Stitch  geweest om stof uit te zoeken voor de rand van de Sterrenregen quilt. Gekozen voor deze combinatie, eerst een smalle donkerbruine bies en daarna een grijsblauwe rand.

March 12
Went to the orthopedist yesterday because of my years of pain in the right hip. I will have an MRI scan for this on March 25th.
Then went to Quiltstudio Patch & Stitch  to pick out fabric for the border of the Starry Rain quilt. Chosen for this combination, first a narrow dark brown trim and then a grey-blue border. 

 

Ook nog een paar andere stofjes en 2 acryl templates gekocht.

 

Also bought a few other fabrics and 2 acrylic templates.

14 maart
Nu de Sterrenregen quilt af is op de rand na, heb ik 2 andere oude projecten uit de kast gehaald. Een ervan is de Pippi Langkous sterren quilt. Hier ben ik in januari 2017 mee begonnen en er moeten nog 49 hele en 12 halve sterren gemaakt worden. Dit weekend heb ik 10 sterren gemaakt. Nu een paar dagen werken aan het andere project dat uit de kast gekomen is.

March 14
Now that the Starry Rain quilt is finished except for the border, I got 2 other old projects out of the closet. One of them is the Pippi Longstocking Stars quilt. I started this in January 2017 and 49 full and 12 half stars still have to be made. This weekend I made 10 stars. Now I'm going to work on the other project that came out of the closet for a few days.

16 maart
Het tweede project dat uit de kast gekomen is, is de Carousel quilt van Ellie's Quiltplace, waarmee ik in mei 2018 ben begonnen.
Voor blok 3 (van de 9) moesten nog 2 flying geese randen gemaakt worden. Die zijn nu gemaakt en kan ik eraan gaan zetten.

March 16
The second project that has come out of the closet is the Carousel quilt from Ellie's Quiltplace, which I started in May 2018.
For block 3 (out of 9) 2 flying geese edges still had to be made. They are now made and I can sew them on.

Vandaag 19 maart
De flying geese randen staan aan blok 3 en ik heb meteen blok 3 aan de andere 2 gezet. Hiermee is rij 1 helemaal af. Nog 2 rijen te gaan.

The flying geese edges are sewed on block 3 and I immediately put block 3 on the other 2. This completes row 1. Two more rows to go.

Happy birthday Loïs

Afgelopen zondag zijn we naar onze jongste kleindochter Loïs geweest die die dag 1 jaar werd. Wat wordt deze meid al groot.

Last Sunday we went to see our youngest granddaughter Loïs who turned 1 that day. How big this girl is getting.

Natuurlijk was ook haar grote zus Lana (links) van net 2 jaar daar en nichtje Yara (rechts) die eind mei 2 jaar wordt. Zo leuk om te zien hoe alle 3 de kleindochters zo weinig in leeftijd schelen.

Of course her big sister Lana (left) who is just 2 years old, was also there and her niece Yara (right) who turns 2 at the end of May. So nice to see how all 3 granddaughters care so little in age.

Inmiddels ben ik bijna klaar met alle rijen samen te naaien voor de Sterrenregen quilt, nog 1 rij te gaan.

By now I'm almost done sewing all the rows together for the Starry Rain quilt, only 1 row to go.

Tussendoor ben ik ook nog een paar dagen bezig geweest met het maken van de laatste hexagonbloemen voor de verkleinde Stonefields quilt. Nu kan ik de laatste rand hiervan gaan afmaken.

In between I also spent a few days making the last hexagon flowers for the scaled-down Stonefields quilt. Now I can start finishing the last border of this.

Ook kreeg ik nog een leuk zelfgemaakt kaartje van mijn zus Yvon.

I also received a nice homemade card from my sister Yvon.

Under the spell of the stars

De laatste 14 dagen ben ik alleen maar bezig geweest met de sterren.

The last 14 days I have only been busy with the stars.

Op 25 februari maakte ik de laatste ster.

On February 25 I made the last star.

In 14 dagen tijd maakte ik 77 hele en 8 halve sterren.

In 14 days I made 77 full and 8 half stars.

Daarna ben ik steeds sterren aan elkaar gaan maken tot rijen.

After that I started making stars together into rows.

En nu ben ik druk bezig om alle rijen aan elkaar te zetten, dit duurt nog het langst. Maar ik hoop de quilt volgende week wel in elkaar te hebben staan.

And now I'm busy putting all the rows together, this is taking the longest. But I hope to have the quilt put together by next week.

Tot zover de sterren. Op 20 februari was het ook 1 jaar geleden dat we Mees op konden halen. Dat jaar is echt omgevlogen.

So much for the stars. On February 20 it was also 1 year ago that we could pick up Mees. That year really flew by.

Er zijn ook 2 pakjes aangekomen. Als eerste dit leuk ingepakte pakje van Supergoof Quilts.

Also 2 packages have arrived. First up is this nicely wrapped package from Supergoof Quilts.

Ik had al verschillende keren zo mooie reproductie stofjes zien staan op de foto's die ze steeds post op FB en IG. De kleuren vond ik heel geschikt voor de 4x5 quilt block Anthology quilt waarmee ik dit jaar wil beginnen. Het boek staat al zo'n 3 jaar hier in de boekenkast. Dit zijn allemaal halve FQ's, behalve het lapje met de dieren, daarvan kocht ik een FQ.

Several times I had seen such beautiful reproduction fabrics in the pictures she keeps posting on FB and IG. I found the colors very suitable for the 4x5 quilt block Anthology quilt that I want to start this year. The book has been on my bookshelf for about 3 years now. These are all half FQ's, except for the piece with the animals, that is a FQ.

Als tweede kwam daar het pakje van Petra Prins met daarin het patroon Cordelia's Spinning Wheel van Brigitte Giblin en ook een pakje met rode stofjes die in de aanbieding waren. Die zullen ook in verschillende projecten komen.

Second came the package from Petra Prins containing the Cordelia's Spinning Wheel pattern by Brigitte Giblin and also a package with red fabrics that were on sale. They will be for different projects.

Verder ben ik op advies van de 2 fysio therapeuten die aan huis komen, terug gegaan naar de huisarts om verwijzingen te vragen voor een neuroloog en een orthopeed. De neuroloog voor mijn benen die nog steeds niet echt willen vanwege de aangetaste gevoelszenuwen en naar de orthopeed voor mijn rechterheup.  

 

Furthermore, on the advice of the 2 physiotherapists who come to my home, I went back to the GP to ask for referrals to a neurologist and an orthopedist. The neurologist for my legs that still don't really want to because of the affected sensory nerves and to the orthopedist for my right hip.

 

 

 Van die heup heb al sinds 2015 last van. Op foto's uit die tijd bleek dat vanwege een geboorte afwijking de heupkom niet goed op de heupkop zit, maar sinds een jaar of 3-4 is de pijn alleen maar toegenomen en sinds ik corona heb gehad straalt de pijn uit naar mijn lies en knie.  Tijd om de orthopeed er eens naar te laten kijken.

 

 I have been suffering from that hip since 2015. Photos from that time showed that due to a birth defect the hip socket is not properly on the femoral head, but since about 3-4 years the pain has only increased and since I had corona the pain radiates to my groin and knee. Time to have the orthopedist take a look.

De afspraken zijn inmiddels gemaakt. Ik kan op 11 maart terecht bij de orthopeed en op 23 maart bij de neuroloog. Ik ben benieuwd naar de uitkomst.
Verder kwam er vandaag ook nog een superleuke verrassing met de post. Een geweldig mooi project tasje gemaakt door een hele lieve vriendin. Ik glimlach nog steeds als ik naar het tasje kijk.

The appointments have already been made. I can go to the orthopedist on March 11 and the neurologist on March 23. I am curious about the outcome.
There was also a super nice surprise in the mail today. A very nice project bag made by a very sweet friend. I still smile when I look at the bag.
