Five more blocks

Blok 64 is I8 Pete's paintbox (Pete's verfdoos). Dat moet wel een hele  bijzondere verfdoos zijn geweest als er al een quiltblok naar vernoemd is. Misschien is Pete later wel een beroemd schilder geworden.

Block 64 is I8 Pete's paintbox. That must have been a very special color box if a quilt block has already been named after it. Perhaps Pete later became a famous painter.

 

Blok 65 is K4 Thea's Turn (Thea's beurt). Eindelijk was Thea aan de beurt om misschien wel het volgende lapje uit te kiezen of om samen met Jane wel een volgend blok te verzinnen. Of heeft Jane al die tijd alleen aan deze quilt gewerkt ?

 Blok 66 is G6 Papa's Star (Papa's Ster). Keek Jane 's nachts naar boven en zocht ze dan naar de ster waarvan ze dacht dat het haar papa was.

 Blok 67 is M8 Enchanted Square (Betoverde plein). Had het dorp waar Jane woonde een plein waar zeer bijzondere dingen plaats vonden?

 Blok 68 is L3 Reflectons Abound (Reflections in overvloed). Ik heb geen idee waarom het blok deze naam heeft.

A birthday and more blocks

Ik heb weer genoeg te vertellen vandaag, dus neem maar even een kopje koffie of thee 😀. Als eerste ga ik weer alle blokken laten zien die ik de afgelopen dagen heb gemaakt. Blok 58 is B13 Four Corner Press (vierhoeken pers).

I have enough to say today, so take a cup of coffee or tea 😀. First I will show all the blocks that I have made in the last few days. Block 58 is B13 Four Corner Press.

Dit doet me denken aan een bloemenpers die we vroeger hadden. We plukten bloemen in de tuin en dan legden we die in de bloemenpers die de bloempjes helemaal plat maakte. Na een week of 2 haalden we de bloemen eruit en plakten ze in albums of op cadeaus.

This reminds me of a flower press that we used to have. We picked flowers in the garden and then we placed them in the flower press that flattened the flowers completely. After about two weeks, we took the flowers out and glued them into albums or on gifts.

Blok 59 is I12 Fred's Square Fair (Fred's vierkante jaarmarkt). Dit is vast het plein in het dorp waar jaarlijks de grote markt op staat. Een markt die van alles verkocht en waar Jane misschien wel sommige van haar lapjes kocht.

Block 59 is I12 Fred's Square Fair. This is probably the square in the village that houses the large market every year. A market that sold everything and where Jane might have bought her patches.

Door met blok 60, dat is E9 Quilt Jail (Quilt gevangenis). Bij dit blok vraag ik me af of er in gevangenissen ook gequilt wordt of zou dat te gevaarlijk zijn met al die snijmessen en scherpe quiltnaalden.

Continue with block 60, that is E9 Quilt Jail. With this block I wonder if quilting is going on in prisons or would it be too dangerous with all those cutting blades and sharp quilting needles.

Op vrijdag werd blok 61 gemaakt, B10 Jud's Trophy (Jud's Trofee). Met wat zou Jud een trofee gewonnen hebben? Met paardrijden of misschien wel met het bakken van een heerlijke taart.

On Friday I made block 61, B10 Jud's Trophy. Whit what would Jud have won a trophy? With horse riding or perhaps with baking a delicious cake.

Blok 62 is I3 Family Album (Familie Album). Wat zou ik graag eens een kijkje nemen in het familie album van Jane.

Blok 63, het laatste voor vandaag is C13 Lakota Sioux. Sioux is een exonieme verzamelnaam voor de Lakota, de Nakota en de Dakota. Dit zijn inheems-Amerikaanse volkeren uit de VS en Canada die een van de drie grote Sioux-dialecten spreken.

Block 63, the last one for today is C13 Lakota Sioux. Sioux is an collective name for the Lakota, Nakota and Dakota. These are Native American peoples from the US and Canada who speak one of the three major Sioux dialects.

Ik was een van de gelukkigen die een Eula breiset won, bestaande uit 4 strengen La Bien Aimée Mondim en het Eula patroon van Isabell Kraemer, een give away die georganiseerd werd door Atelyeah. Ik kreeg de kleur Sansa en het garen is geweldig en zo mooi !

I was one of the lucky ones who won a Eula Strickset, consisting 4 strands La Bien Aimée Mondim and the Eula pattern by Isabell Kraemer, a give away organized by Atelyeah. I got color Sansa and the yarn is amazing and so beautiful !

Afgelopen donderdag moest ik op controle bij de longarts in Maastricht UMC en ze hebben daar zo'n mooie tegelvloer in het restaurant.

Last Thursday I had to go to the lung doctor in Maastricht UMC and they have such a beautiful tile floor in the restaurant.

De longarts wil me op andere medicatie gaan zetten die mijn benauwdheid meer aanpakt, maar omdat ik altijd zoveel bijwerkingen krijg van bepaalde medicatie is nu eerst bloed afgenomen.

The pulmonologist wants me to put on other medication that tackles my stuffiness more, but because I always get so many side effects from certain medication, blood has now been taken first.

Hier gaan ze nu een test mee doen waarin ze kunnen zien waarom mijn lever zo raar op bepaalde medicijnen reageerd. Dan kan de arts zien welke medicatie hij me WEL kan voorschrijven die me geen of amper bijwerkingen zullen geven. Ik krijg over 4 weken de uitslag, want deze test duurt een ruim 3 weken.

With the blood they are going to do a test in which they can see why my liver reacts so strange to certain medicines. Then the doctor can see which medication he can prescribe to me that will give me no or hardly any side effects. I will get the result in 4 weeks, because this test takes more than 3 weeks.

En vandaag is ook mijn oudste kind jarig, hij wordt 35 jaar. Niels gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag !

And today it is also my oldest child's birthday, he will be 35 years old. Congratulations Niels, I wish you a Happy Birthday.

Seven more blocks

Wat hadden we mooi weer afgelopen weekend en daardoor veel tijd buiten doorgebracht. Maar ook zijn er de nodige Dear Jane in Autumn blokjes gemaakt. 

Blok 51 is B9 Tinker Toy (Tinker speelgoed).  Een klassiek kinderspeelgoed dat al meer dan 100 jaar (het werd gemaakt in 1914) onafgebroken op de markt is. Tinkertoy-bouwsets bevatten spoelen en staven die ontworpen zijn met wiskundige principes in het achterhoofd om kinderen in staat te stellen stevige constructies te bouwen tijdens hun constructieve spel.

We had great weather last weekend and therefore spent a lot of time outside. But the necessary Dear Jane in Autumn blocks have also been made.

Block 51 is B9 Tinker Toy. A classic children’s toy that has continuously been marketed for over 100 years (it was created in 1914), Tinkertoy construction sets feature spools and rods that were designed with mathematical principles in mind to allow children to build sturdy structures during their constructive play.

Blok 52 is K11 Columbine, dit is een plant, Aquilegia caerula, van de familie van de boterbloemen, met opvallende bloemen met witte bloemblaadjes en witte tot blauwe kelkblaadjes die lange, achterwaartse uitlopers vormen: de staatsbloem van Colorado. Bij ons beter bekend als Akelei.

Block 52 is K11 Columbine, which is a plant, Aquilegia caerula, of the buttercup family, having showy flowers with white petals and white to blue sepals that form long, backward spurs: the state flower of Colorado.

Door met blok 53, dat is H10 Ben's Bowtie (Ben's vlinderdas). Een vlinderdas of vlinderstrik is een type das die door heren op de boord van een overhemd wordt gedragen. Dit type das dankt zijn naam aan zijn vorm, die enigszins op die van een vlinder lijkt.

Continue with block 53, this is H10 Ben's Bowtie. A bow tie or bow tie is a type of tie that is worn by gentlemen on the collar of a shirt. This type of tie owes its name to its shape, which is somewhat similar to that of a butterfly.

Blok 54 is D7 Meeting Place (ontmoetingsplek), een plek waar je bij elkaar komt om elkaar te ontmoeten. Mijn eerste samenkomst met dit blok was in onze tuin, samen waren we aan het genieten van de zon.

Block 54 is D7 Meeting Place, a place where you come together to meet. My first meeting with this block was in our garden, together we were enjoying the sun.

We hebben samen genoten van Bowy die aan het spelen was op het gras en Michiel was druk bezig met de vijver op orde te maken voor de zomer.

Together we enjoyed Bowy playing on the grass and Michiel was busy putting the pond in order for the summer.

Dan komen we aan bij blok 55, dat is D5 Cathedral Window (kathedraal raam). Voor zo'n raam heb je kathedraalglas nodig, dat is de naam die commercieel wordt gegeven aan monochromatisch glas. Het is dun in vergelijking met plaatglas, kan gekleurd zijn en aan één kant getextureerd. De naam komt voort uit het feit dat ramen van glas in lood een kenmerk waren van middeleeuwse Europese kathedralen vanaf de 10e eeuw.

Than we come to block 55, that is D5 Cathedral Window. For such a window you need cathedral glass, this is the name given commercially to monochromatic sheet glass. It is thin by comparison with slab glass, may be coloured, and is textured on one side. The name draws from the fact that windows of stained glass were a feature of medieval European cathedrals from the 10th century onwards.

Snel door met blok 56, dat is J4 Adelaine's Apron Strings (Adelaine's schort banden). Er is een leuke uitdrukking over de banden van een schort:
Als je zegt dat iemand vastzit aan de schorten van iemand anders, bedoel je dat ze te veel door de ander worden gecontroleerd of beïnvloed. Ik kende deze niet, dus toch weer wat geleerd.

Then we have block 56, this is J4 Adelaine's Apron Strings. There is a phrase about apron strings:

If you say that someone is tied to another person's apron strings, you mean that they are controlled or influenced too much by the other person.

Het laatste blok voor vandaag is blok 57, A6 Uncle Homer (oom Homer). Misschien was dit wel de oom die iedere keer de blokjes van Jane kwam bewonderen of misschien zocht hij samen met Jane naar stofjes die gebruikt konden worden.

The last block for today is block 57, A6 Uncle Homer. Maybe this was the uncle who came to admire Jane's blocks every time or maybe he and Jane looked for fabrics that could be used.

50 blocks completed

Druk, druk, druk, ... waarmee? Met het maken van de Dear Jane blokken natuurlijk. Het gaat zo lekker ! Blok 45 was J2 Picture perfect (de perfecte foto). Heb jij wel eens gedacht, dit is de perfecte foto? Ik wel, tot ik weer eens iets anders tegen kwam, voornamelijk in de natuur waarvan ik dacht, dit is het perfecte plaatje. Ik denk dan ook dat het vaak een moment opname is.

Busy, busy, busy, ... with what? Making the Dear Jane blocks of course. It's going so well! Block 45 is J2 Picture Perfect. Have you ever thought this is the perfect photo? I did, until I came across something else, mainly in the nature that I thought, this is the perfect picture. I therefore think that it is often a snapshot of that moment.

 

We gaan verder met blok 46; A9 Cabin Fever (Cabine (kleine ruimte) koorts). Cabinekoorts is een idiomatische term voor een claustrofobische reactie die plaatsvindt wanneer een persoon of groep op een afgelegen of eenzame locatie belandt of gedurende langere tijd binnenshuis in beperkte ruimtes vastzit. Cabinekoorts beschrijft de extreme geïrriteerdheid en rusteloosheid die een persoon in deze beperkende situaties kan voelen.

We continue with block 46; A9 Cabin Fever. Cabin fever is an idiomatic term for a claustrophobic reaction that takes place when a person or group ends up in an isolated or solitary location, or stuck indoors in confined quarters for an extended period of time. Cabin fever describes the extreme irritability and restlessness a person may feel in these limiting situations.

Blok 47 was enorm leuk, dat was E3 Paddle Wheels (Schoepenrad). Alle punten kwamen mooi samen in het midden.

Block 47 was a lot of fun, that was E3 Paddle Wheels. All the points came so good together in the middle.

Een schoepenrad is een vorm van waterrad of waaier waarin een aantal schoepen rond de omtrek van het wiel zijn geplaatst. Heb jij wel eens op een waterfiets gezeten, die heeft ook zulke waterwielen.

A paddle wheel is a form of waterwheel or impeller in which a number of paddles are set around the periphery of the wheel. Have you ever been on a pedal boat, it also has such water wheels.

Door met blok 48, dat was M2 Duff's Bluff (de bluf van Duff). Waarom het blok zo heet weet ik niet. Moest Duff iemand overbluffen met iets?

Than block 48, that was M2 Duff's Bluff. Why the block is so called I don't know. Did Duff have to bluff someone over with something?

En dan ... blok 49. Dat was A11 Pebble's Protest (Pebble protest). Ik denk niet dat Pebble de enige was die aan het protesteren was. Ik zelf vond dit geen leuk blok om te maken. Veel Y-naden die niet echt lekker gingen en ik ben dan ook blij dat dit blok af is.

And then ... block 49. That was A11 Pebble's Protest.  I don't think Pebble was the only one protesting. I myself did not like making this block. Many Y seams that didn't go really well and I am happy that this block is finished.

En daar is dan blok 50, dat heet M10 Simple Simon (Simpele Simon).

And there is block 50, that is called M10 Simple Simon. 

 

 

Ik moest even opzoeken wat ze nu bedoelen met Simpele Simon. Dat staat vaak voor een een dwaze of goedgelovige persoon.
Herkomst: waarschijnlijk van de naam van een personage dat in verschillende kinderrijmpjes voorkomt.

I just had to look up what they mean by Simple Simon. That often means a foolish or gullible person.
Origin: probably from the name of a character who features in various nursery rhymes.

Steeds meer bloeiende plantjes zijn er te vinden in de tuin. Hoe meer zon, hoe meer bloemen.

More and more flowering plants can be found in the garden. The more sun, the more flowers.

Afgelopen zondag gingen we ook naar Vevi Kreatief in Deurne. Ze had diverse aanbiedingen, waaronder korting op quiltstof, dus er werden best wel wat stofjes gekocht. Ik heb een nieuwe quilt op het oog die ik wil maken, maar ik heb tegen mezelf gezegt: "Carin eerst alle blokken van de Dear Jane afmaken en dan mag je met deze beginnen".  Snappen jullie nu waarom ik ze druk met deze blokken ben.

Last Sunday we also went to Vevi Kreatief in Deurne. She had various offers, including a discount on quilting fabric, so quite a few fabrics were bought. I have a new quilt in mind that I want to make, but I have said to myself: "Carin first finish all blocks of the Dear Jane and then you can start with this". Do you now understand why I am busy with these blocks?

Begin van de week was daar ook mijn April wolletje (Impressions of Nature) van de Warme Voeten Club van Het Wolbeest dat binnen kwam rollen. Ook deze is weer geweldig. Hele mooie lente kleuren.

I also received this week my March wool (Impressions of Nature) from the Warm Feet Club of Het Wolbeest. Again such a beautiful one. Beautiful spring colors.

The next blocks

Ik ben heerlijk bezig geweest met de volgende blokken voor de Dear Jane in Autumn. Blok 39 is C12 Family Reunion (familie reunie). Zou Jane ook een gezellige dag samen door hebben gebracht met haar familie, net als ik 23 maart heb gehad? Toen kwamen we (alle nichten en neven van mijn moeders kant) een middag bij elkaar om gezellig te kletsen.

I was very busy with the following blocks for the Dear Jane in Autumn. Block 39 is C12 Family Reunion. Would Jane also have spent a nice day together with her family, just like I had on March 23? Then we (all cousins ​​from my mother's side) came together one afternoon to socialize.

We gaan door met blok 40, dit was G8 Justin's Comet (Justin's komeet). Zou hij echt een komeet hebben gezien? Of was het een vallende ster?

En dan is daar blok 41, het middelste blok. Hierna kan ik terug gaan tellen, want mijn totaal wordt 81 blokken. Dit is het leuke blok M12 Hopscotch, wie kent dit spel niet? In het Nederlands heet dit het hinkelspel. Wie heeft dit vroeger op school niet gedaan. Met stoepkrijt alle vakken tekenen op de grond en hinkelen maar.

And then there is block 41, the middle block. After this I can start counting back, because my total will be 81 blocks. This fun block is M12 Hopscotch, who doesn't know this game? Hopscotch is a popular playground game in which players toss a small object into numbered triangles or a pattern of rectangles outlined on the ground and then hop or jump through the spaces to retrieve the object. 

Blok 42 is H13 Farm Fields (boerderij velden). Een veld bij een boerderij kan gebruikt worden voor het verbouwen van gewassen, maar ook  voor vee, zoals paarden, koeien of schapen. Als erfafscheiding tussen velden werd gebruikt gemaakt van hekken, muren, heggen of sloten.

Block 42 is H13 Farm Fields. A field near a farm can be used for growing crops, but also for cattle, such as horses, cows or sheep. Fences, walls, hedges or ditches were used as boundary fencing between fields.

We gaan verder met blok 43, dat is K1 Crooked Creek (bochtige kreek). Een kreek is een kleine watergeul, die ontstaat als gevolg van een dijkdoorbraak. Na een dijkdoorbraak zorgt het in- en uitstromende water (onder invloed van eb en vloed) er vaak voor dat de geul een behoorlijke diepte bereikt. Na dichting van het gat in de dijk blijft de kreek over.

Than I made block 43, that was K1 Crooked Creek. A creek is a small water channel that is created as a result of a dyke breach. After a dyke breach, the incoming and outgoing water (under the influence of ebb and flow) often ensures that the channel reaches a considerable depth. After closing the hole in the dike, the creek remains.

Blok 44 is D6 Challenge (uitdaging). Het woord uitdaging staat voor: iets waardoor je iets doet of kunt dat je niet eerder deed of kon. Ik kom genoeg uitdagingen tegen bij het quilten en/of breien en steeds is er dan weer die glimlach als iets gelukt is. Een kleine overwinning !

Block 44 is D6 Challenge. The word challenge stands for: something that allows you to do or do something that you did not or could not do before. I come across enough challenges when quilting and / or knitting and there is always that smile when something is successful. A small win!

Terwijl ik bezig ben met "herfst" kleuren, zie je buiten dat de lente begonnen is. Volop bloesem aan de bomen en struiken en ook de solitaire bijen hebben het druk met het af en aan vliegen bij het bijenhotel.

While I'm working with "fall" colors, you can see outside that spring has begun. Plenty of blossoms on the trees and shrubs and also the solitary bees are busy flying to and from the bee hotel.
