All Around the Town block 2 - part 1

Dit is het eerste deel van blok 2, want op dit blok komen 2 kinderliedjes. Het is namelijk een blok dat op de hoek komt, maar dat wordt duidelijker als het 2e liedje erop staat.

De clou zat hem inderdaad in de vlag, ... daarop zie je een botje.

This is the first part of block 2, because in this block will be two children's songs. This is a block that will be placed at the corner, but all will be cleared up when I finish it.

The flag was indeed an indication, ... you see a bone.

Op de boot staat een vrolijke beer die naar iedereen zwaait die hij tegen komt. Op de boot zelf staan de cijfers 1 t/m 7.

On the boat is standing a happy bear that waves to everyone he sees. On the boat itself are the numbers 1 up to 7.

ik denk dat iedereen nu wel weet om welk kinderliedje het gaat.

Berend Botje ging uit varen,
met zijn scheepje naar Zuid-Laren.
De weg was recht, de weg was krom,

Dutch readers knows the song, it is called "Berend Botje ging uit varen". It is about Berend Botje who is going saling and at the end of the song he is going to America. The numbers 1 up to 7 is a line in the song. Translating the name Berend Botje; Botje means bone and in Berend you see the animal beer (bear), that's why I added the bear ;-)

De oplettende lezers zullen zien dat ik de zeilen van vorm veranderd heb, dit vond ik leuker. Links en rechts van het water komt het groen van de blokken die ernaast gemaakt worden, ze overlappen elkaar. Verder worden er nog sterren geappliceerd nadat alle blokken af zijn.

Readers will see that I changed the form of the sails, I liked that more. On the left and right of the water will be the green of the previous block and the next  block, they overlap each other. There will also be added some stars when all the blocks are done.

Inmiddels ben ik ook al druk bezig aan blok 2 van All Around the Town. Deze keer gaat het niet om een huis, maar om een boot. Misschien kunnen jullie al raden om welk kinderliedje het dit keer gaat? Wie weet is de vlag een aanwijzing?

I'm also busy with the second block of All Around the Town. This time not a house but a boat. I'm curious if the Dutch readers can guess which children's song I'm going to make. Who knows is the flag an indication?

Gistermiddag werd er ook nog een prachtige bos bloemen bezorgd om me beterschap en sterkte voor de komende tijd toe te wensen. De afzender was het bedrijf waar Michiel werkt. Zo lief !

Yesterday afternoon someone delivered beautiful flowers with get well wishes. They came from the company where Michiel works. So sweet of them !

All Around the Town block 1 finished

Jullie hadden al kunnen zien dat ik de walvis die als windvaan op het dak stond, vervangen had door een klomp.

You already could see that I changed the weather vane whale that was on the roof, for a clog.

Verder staat er in de tuin een water handpomp met twee emmertjes.

The Dutch readers can easily guess which children's song this is. It is called "Twee emmertjes water halen", which means: Getting two buckets of water from the water hand pump. In the song are also girls who walked on clogs, that's why I appliquéd a clog.

De auto's en de sterren worden pas geappliceerd als alle blokken klaar zijn, vandaar dat je hier en daar nog lege plekken ziet. 

Blok 2 ligt inmiddels klaar om aan te beginnen.

The cars and stars will be appliquéd when all of the blocks are made, that's why you see here and there some empty spaces.

I can start with block 2.

Bowy and building a house

Afgelopen vrijdag was het ontzettend warm buiten. Michiel was bezig in de voortuin en Bowy gaat dan altijd "meehelpen". Maar niet deze keer, want hij vond het te warm en zocht een heerlijk schaduw plekje op onder de bladeren van de stokroos.

Last friday it was so warm outside. Michiel was working in the front garden and Bowy is always "helping" him. But not this time, it was to hot for him and he found a place in the shadow under the leaves of the Alcea Rosea.

Ook de hortensia gaf hem van tijd tot tijd schaduw ;-)

Also the hydrangea gave him shadow from time to time ;-)

Bowy kreeg afgelopen weekend ook nog een mooie grote flos van de moeder van Michiel. Hij speelt er volop mee.

Last weekend Bowy got a nice present from my mother-in-law. He realy likes his new toy.

Zelf ben ik nog druk bezig met het eerste blok van All Around the Town. Zoals ik al vertelde, verander ik elk blok in een kinderliedje. Misschien zie je al welk kinderliedje dit blok gaat worden. Toegevoegd zijn al een klomp en een emmer ;-)

I'm still busy with my first block of the All Around the Town quilt. As I told earlier, each block I'm going to change into a Dutch children's song. I already added a clog and a bucket. Who knows, ... maybe you can guess which song it's going to be ;-)

Sister Stitcher

Het speldenkussen dat ik voor de give away gemaakt heb (zie bericht gisteren), is  een gratis patroon van The Primitive Hare (klik). Het heet Sister Stitcher en ik borduurde het op 28 ct. in thee geverfd evenweave met 1 draadje. Onder de foto is te lezen welke kleuren ik gebruikt heb.

The pincushion I made for my give away (see message yesterday), is done with a free pattern from The Primitive Hare (click). Its called Sister Stitcher and I stitched it on 28 ct. tea-dyed evenweave with 1 thread. Under the picture you can read what colors I used.

Give Away and hospital news

Het afgelopen weekend zijn we even naar Haarlem geweest, gezellig op bezoek bij schoonmoeder en vanmorgen was ik al vroeg op, omdat ik een telefonisch consult had met de oncologie gynaecoloog over de biopsie.

Zojuist werd ik gebeld door oncologie gynaecoloog en de uitslag van de biopsie is CIN3. Dit betekend dat het op dit moment nog goedaardig is en tegelijkertijd weg gelaserd kan worden met de andere plekken binnenin. Ze moeten het wel weghalen, want doen ze dat niet, dan kan het omslaan in kwaadaardig en dat willen we natuurlijk niet.
Nu wachten op afspraak met anesthesist, omdat het onder algehele narcose plaats vindt en wachten op wanneer de ingreep zelf plaats gaat vinden.

Last weekend we went visit my mother-in-law and we had a great time. This morning I woke up early, because I had a telephone consultation with my oncology gynecologist.
I just got a call from my oncology gynecologist and the results of the biopsy is  SIL3. This means that at this moment the cells are affected but still good and can be removed by laser at the same time as the spots inside. They have to remove them, because if they don't the cells will turn into malignant.
Now I have to wait for my appointment with the anesthesiologist, because the operation takes place under general anesthesia and waiting to hear for when the operation will be.

New project

Tijd om een nieuw project te starten. Niet de Birdie Birdie van Susan Smith, want ik ben er nog niet helemaal aan uit welke stofjes ik hiervoor ga gebruiken. Voor deze quilt had ik wel al alle stofjes uitgezocht een tijdje geleden, het is All Around the Town van Quakertown Quilts.

Time to start a new project. Not the Birdie Birdie from Susan Smith, because I still don't know which fabrics I'm going to use for it. For this quilt I had all my fabrics ready for some time now, it is All Around the Town.

Jane (click) maakte dit patroon in 2011 en gaf het patroon toen door aan Ansje. Helaas overleed Ansje voordat ze hem kon maken, maar van tevoren gaf ze het patroon op haar beurt door aan Nanda. Aangezien Nanda hem nog niet ging maken, stuurde zij het weer door aan mij. Als ik hem af heb, stuur ik het weer terug naar Nanda. Dit patroon maakt heel wat kilometers ;-)

Jane (click) made this quilt in 2011 and she gave the pattern to Ansje. Before she could make it, she passed away, but before that, she send the pattern to Nanda. Nanda does not make it this year, so she passed it on to me. When I have make this quilt, I will send it back to Nanda. This pattern is a traveler pattern ;-)

Het patroon bestaat uit 12 verschillende blokken, die samen een stad vormen. Een kinderquilt waar heel veel op te zien is. Dit is het eerste blok ...

The pattern contains 12 different blocks, together they are a town. A childrens quilt with lots to see. This is the first block ...

Ik ga bij elk blok iets toevoegen, zodat elk blok een Hollands kinderliedje uitbeeld. Bij dit blok ga ik de walvis op het dak vervangen door iets anders. Misschien kunnen jullie al raden welk kinderliedje ik hiermee ga uitbeelden.

Each block I'm going to change a bit, because in my quilt each block will represent a Dutch children's song.  The whale on the roof  I will change for something else. If you know Dutch children's songs, maybe you can guess which song it will be.

Natures Journey finished

Het natuur avontuur (Natures Journey) dat begon op 24 maart 2015 is afgelopen. De laatste steekjes zijn gemaakt en de top staat helemaal in elkaar.

My Natures Journey that started as a journey on march 24 is finished. The last stitches are made and the quilt top is ready.

Natures Journey is een patroon van Hatched and Patched, dat ik kocht bij De Quiltster.

Op bovenstaande foto lijken de kleuren wat flets, maar in het echt zijn ze voller van kleur. De maat van deze quilt is 146 x 154 cm.

On the picture above the colors look a little pale, but in real they are more brighter. The size of the quilt is 57.5" x60.5"

Ik werkte aan de quilt van 24 maart t/m 6 mei, daarna moest ik even stoppen vanwege een wondje aan mijn vinger. Op 27 mei pakte ik hem weer op en de laatste steekjes werden gemaakt op 10 juni. Dit betekend dat ik er 8 weken en 3 dagen aan gewerkt heb oftewel 59 dagen.

I worked on the quilt from march 24 till may 6 and then I had to stop, because I had a little wound on my finger. On may 27 I started again and worked till june 10 when I made the last stitches. This means I worked on this quilt in total 8 weeks and 3 days or you can say 59 days.

Natuurlijk zijn niet echt de laatste steekjes gezet, want ik moet hem nog helemaal doorquilten. Volgende week ga ik hem dubbelen, zodat ik hiermee kan beginnen.

Ofcourse I didn't make the very last stitches yet, because I still have to quilt it. Basting the quilt I'm going to do next week, so I can start quilting.

From trunk show to quilt rack

Gistermiddag ben ik, samen met vriendinnen Elly en Cindy, naar Wendy Vosters (klik) geweest. Even er een middagje tussenuit en niet te hoeven denken aan de ziekenhuis bezoeken die er nog aan zitten te komen. Ingrid-Supergoof (klik) hield er een trunkshow en het was volle bak, alle stoelen waren bezet.

Yesterday afternoon I went, together with my friends Elly and Cindy, to Wendy Vosters (click). An afternoon full of fun and no thinking of the hospital visits that are coming soon. Ingrid-Supergoof (click) had her quilt trunk show there and all the seats where taking.

De weergoden waren ons gunstig gezind. Heerlijk genieten van het zonnetje en luisteren naar de verhalen van Ingrid, grappige maar ook ontroerende verhalen.

The weather was beautiful. Enjoying the sun and listening to Ingrid who told  stories about her quilts, funnies ones but also touching stories.

Vele quilts gingen er door onze handen, maar deze blijft toch de favoriet van mij, de Pocket of Posies. Eens ga ik deze ook maken.

Many quilts we had in our hands, but this one is still my favorite, the Pocket of Posies. I'm sure I'm going to make this one in the future.

Maar er gebeurde nog iets geweldigs, ... zie je die pijl ? Die wijst naar een quilt rek. Het quiltrek stond naast de deur van het quiltatelier van Wendy. Ik was er al verschillende keren langs gelopen en op een gegeven moment kon ik me niet inhouden en zei tegen Wendy: "Waar heb je die weggehaald, die is zo mooi". 

But something else happend, ... do you see the arrow? That is pointing to the quilt rack. This quilt rack was standing aside the door to Wendy's  quiltstudio. I already passed it several times and then I had to ask Wendy : "Where did you buy that one, it is so beautiful".

Waarop Wendy zegt: "Vind je hem echt mooi? Dan is hij voor jou. Ik had me voorgenomen dat ik hem mee zou geven aan de eerste persoon die ernaar zou vragen." Vol verbazing keek ik haar aan en volgens mij trok ik een heel gek gezicht. Wel drie keer vroeg ik of ze het echt meende. 

En dat ze het meende blijkt wel uit onderstaande foto, want inmiddels staat het quiltrek bij ons in de huiskamer en ik geniet met volle teugen ervan !

Wendy said: "Do you realy like it? Then it is yours. I made myself a promise that I would give it to the first person that ask about it".  Full of surprise I looked at her and I think I made a realy funny face. Three times I asked her if she meant it.

And that she meant it, you see in this picture, because the quilt rack is standing in our livingroom and I realy enjoy it !

Er werden ook aankopen gedaan. Van Ingrid kocht ik haar patroon "het ooievaarshuis". Ik wilde graag eens iets maken met yoyo's, want die heb ik nog nooit gemaakt. De ooievaar laat ik wel weg, want ik maak er meer een huis welkoms quilt van. Ook had ik mijn briefje meegenomen met de maten van stofjes die ik nodig had voor de achtergrond van de nieuwe quilt Birdie Birdie van Susan Smith. Na niet al te lang zoeken had ik 3 mooie uitgezocht.

I also did buy something. From Ingrid I bought her pattern "het ooievaarshuis" (the stork house). I always wanted to make something with yoyo's, because I never made them. I don't going to make the stork, because it will be more a house welcoms quilt. I also took my note with me where I wrote down the sizes of fabrics I needed for my new quilt Birdie Birdie from Susan Smith. I did not search long before I had them.

Ik was opslag verliefd op de lichte stof met het tere bloempje (Green Tea & Iced Mocha by The Buggy Barn for Henry Glass) dat ik ga gebruiken voor het middenstuk. De oudblauwe (Elizabeth by Mary Koval for Windham Fabrics) voor erlangs waar de ketting op wordt geappliceerd. De bruine stof (Comfort by Howard Marcus for Moda) zal gebruikt worden voor de vazen.

I immediately fell in love with the light fabric  (Green Tea & Iced Mocha by The Buggy Barn for Henry Glass) that I'm going to use for the middle part. The old blue one (Elizabeth by Mary Koval for Windham Fabrics) is for the border around it where the chain is going to be appliquéd. The brown one (Comfort by Howard Marcus for Moda) I will be using for the vases.

Elly en Cindy jullie ook bedankt voor de super gezellige middag. Wat hebben we toch weer gelachen ! Ingrid voor de mooie verhalen bij haar quilts en Wendy voor de voortreffelijke organisatie en uiteraard voor het prachtige quiltrek.

Elly and Cindy, thank you both for this wonderful afternoon. We had a lot of fun ! Inrgid for the great stories about her quilts and Wendy for the wonderful  organization and the beautiful quilt rack.

Little square border

Gistermiddag was ik nog druk bezig met de kleine vierkantjes rand aan de Natures Journey te naaien, ...

Yesterday afternoon I still was busy with sewing the small square border onto the Natures Journey, ...

maar inmiddels staan alle vier de randen eraan. De volgende, tevens laatste rand, is er een met de roze stofjes die ook in het midden van de quilt zitten.

but now they are all sewed on. The next and final border is one with the pink fabrics that are seen in the middle of the quilt.

Back from hospital

Net terug van het oncologiecentrum Maastricht. Na het inwendig onderzoek blijken er twee aangetaste plekken in de vaginawand te zitten die verwijderd moeten gaan worden. Dit gebeurd onder algehele narcose door middel van lasertechniek binnen nu en 6 weken. 

Ook hebben ze vanmorgen een biopsie gedaan bij een verdacht plekje op de vulva, hiervan krijg ik telefonisch bericht op 15 juni. Mocht dit plekje nu ook niet goed zijn, dan doen ze dit tegelijkertijd weg laseren met de twee plekjes aan de binnenkant.  Nadeel van het weg laseren is wel, dat het kan zijn dat niet alles direct weg is, maar dat zien ze pas een half jaar na de behandeling. Als dat zo is, dan wordt deze behandeling hierna nog een keer uitgevoerd, net zo vaak tot het weg is.

Just returned from the oncology center Maastricht. After the internal examination they saw two spots on the inside of the vagina which has to be removed. This will be done with general anesthesia and a laser technique within 6 weeks. 

They also did a biopsy on a suspect spot on the vulva, I will get an answer of this result on june 15. When this spot has to removed also, they do it at the same time with the laser technique. Maybe they have to do thislittle operation 2 more times, as often till it is gone completely.

 

Dus binnenkort weer op en neer naar Maastricht ..., nu eerst verder met mijn quilt. Mijn randen met vierkantjes staan er nog niet helemaal aan, nog twee te gaan. Ik was even druk met breien. Maar ondertussen wel nagedacht over de volgende quilt. Twee staan er in de planning, de St Neot Band Sampler en Birdie, Birdie die zaterdag binnen kwam. beide patronen zijn van Susan Smith.

So in a few weeks I have to go back to the hospital for this, ... for now I'm going to work on my quilt. My borders with the little squares is almost sewed on, not finished yet, ... too busy with knitting. But I have thought about my next project. I have two on my wishlist, the St Neot Band Sampler and Birdie, Birdie that I recieved last saturday, both patterns are from Susan Smith.
