No time ....

No time for anything else beside reading since I bought the book from Deborah Harkness yesterday. When you start reading you are instantly in the middle of the story, its beautiful. So now you know what I'm doing the next couple of days because this book has 651 pages to read.

Whats the book about:
When historian Diana Bishop opens a bewitched alchemical manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library it represents an unwelcome intrusion of magic into her carefully ordinary life. Though descended from a long line of witches, she is determined to remain untouched by her family’s legacy. She banishes the manuscript to the stacks, but Diana finds it impossible to hold the world of magic at bay any longer.
For witches are not the only otherworldly creatures living alongside humans. There are also creative, destructive daemons and long-lived vampires who become interested in the witch’s discovery. They believe that the manuscript contains important clues about the past and the future, and want to know how Diana Bishop has been able to get her hands on the elusive volume.
Chief among the creatures who gather around Diana is vampire Matthew Clairmont, a geneticist with a passion for Darwin. Together, Diana and Matthew embark on a journey to understand the manuscript’s secrets. But the relationship that develops between the ages-old vampire and the spellbound witch threatens to unravel the fragile peace that has long existed between creatures and humans—and will certainly transform Diana’s world as well.

Celtic BOM 6 - Litha

This time a block called Litha for the Celtic BOM. The design of this block is my own idea. Litha is the  longest day of the year and when the Sun is at its strongest. From now on the days grow shorter and the winter months are coming.  Thats why I made a sun/moon with a light and dark side.

Litha is usually celebrated on June 21st, but varies somewhat from the 20th to the 23rd, dependant upon the Earth's rotation around the Sun. According to the old folklore calendar, Summer begins on Beltane (May 1st) and ends on Lughnassadh (August 1st), with the Summer Solstice midway between the two, marking MID-Summer. The most common other names for this holiday are the Summer Solstice or Midsummer, and it celebrates the arrival of Summer, when the hours of daylight are longest.

Litha is a Celtic moongoddess. Litha stands for abundance and fertility, power and order.

The celebration of Midsummer's Eve was from ancient times linked to the summer solstice. The mid-summer plants, especially Calendula, have miraculous healing powers and therefore picked on this night.

Bonfires were lit to protect against evil spirits which were believed to roam freely when the sun was turning southwards again. In later years, witches were also thought to be on their way to meetings with other powerful beings. During Midsummer the gate to the fairieworld is open.

Good news

Last week I had my check-up with the gynaecologist to see if the bad cells had returned. Yesterday I got the results and they found nothing. No bad cells this time so I'm very happy. In december I have again a check-up to see if all is looking good.

Doing nothing

It was time to write a message ... except I have nothing to write about. The last two weeks I haven't been stitching or quilting because my neck hurts. The only thing I have done is make a few (very few) stitches on a chartpack of Little House Needleworks called Spring. With the pattern comes a skein of Crescent Colours and the hole design is stitch in this color.

Romantique sampler part 10 and 11

The last few days I was busy stitching part 10 and 11 of the romantique sampler and it is finished before the 10th of the month.

If you look carefully you will see that part 9 is missing and the reason why is that we get that part 9 later because it's going to be stitch on the left site.

Deck the Halls

"Deck the Halls" (origineel Engelse titel: "Deck the Hall") is een traditioneel kerst- en nieuwjaarsliedje.

Just in time before the months ends, I have finished my second ornament. This time Deck the Halls from Little House Needleworks. "Deck the Halls" (original English title: "Deck the Hall") is a traditional Yuletide and New Years' carol.

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
'Tis the season to be jolly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Beware of the bee

Yesterday Michiel en Carin went to Wendy Vosters Open Day, but I stayed at home trying to make my first quilt block myself. Its going to be G-4 Chimneys and Cornerstones. Carin always works to fast for me but after seeing Michiel quilting last week I thought I give it a try.

It was still even harder then I thought so when they returned after two hours and told me what I've missed, I regretted staying home. There were many workshops and quilts enough to fill a museum. Wendy thought of everything, she even thought of me and was surprised I didn't come. Next time I go for sure. Look what they brought home and ... you can tell that they both like chocolate very much.

Cause I managed to stitch only a few pieces this afternoon, Carin helped me to finish the block. Now it was done in no time like the bee Michiel made during a workshop at Wendy's, the one on the photo with me.

You could say this is a real "Quilt BEE", but don't get mistaken ! This one realy stings.

Bringing Home the Tree

I was so busy with my quilting that I totaly forgot to stitch an ornament last month and because I want to stitch one every month, I now have to stitch two this month.
The first one is ready and that is: Bringing Home the Tree from Little House Needleworks. I hope to finish the second one this weekend.

Addicted to reading

Beside cross stitch and quilting I'm addicted to reading, especially mystery books. I like to find out who is the murder while I'm reading. When you look at my sidebar you can see that I'm still reading the book of Michael Scott but at the same time I read another book (one before I go to sleep, the other while I sit in the garden). This time  several books, because they where so exciting  to read. The last 3 weeks I read the first 4 books of Shirley Damsgaard, I like them very much. I have order the other 3 books of her already and I hope to recieve them next week.

Some time ago I read the first book of Madelyn Alt which was a joy to read. I solved the mystery just before the end of the book. Luckely I had two more books of this writer so last night I have began reading her second book; A Charmed Death.

This afternoon I came in a local bookstore to buy the magazine Quiltmania and I saw there a book which I would love to read so I bought that too. The book is from Jodi Picoult and its called Nineteen minutes (from 2007).
What is this book about?
In the city Sterling in New Hampshire almost never something happens - until a student enters  the local high school and starts shooting. This changes the lives of everyone of the ones in and outside the school.

 Do not think that I read the whole day. I am very busy with stitching the Christmas ornament that I forgot to make last month.

Brumelda loves pineapple

Finally I can show two blocks which Michiel made together with me. The first block is L-5 Pineapple and I love pineapple, the only problem is that I never can open that can.

I like pineapple, just from the can or on the pizza, in a salad, on ice or with chicken ... ohh wait a minute ... we are eating chicken tonight, maybe it helps when I give them a quiet clue.

The second block is called A-7 Cats and Mice and maybe you think that witches love cats but I don't have one because cats aren't very nice to the mice in our garden. The mice come to the birdseeds that Michiel scatters for the birds. No .. we catch them alive.

The mouse in the mousetrap is already been released by Michiel because that mouse would be nibbling on our block. In this block Michiel has used some stripe fabric from his shirt. These mouse will not nibble on the block, because they only eat cheese.

Four blocks and a birthday

The last few days I made another 4 blocks for my Antique Sampler and they are so much fun to make.

With this block 9 and 10 I have now the blocks complete to sew the first row.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vandaag is Michiel jarig en we zijn van plan om er een gezellige dag van te maken.
Gefeliciteerd lieverd !
Today is Michiel's birthday and we are planning to make a wonderful day of it.
Happy birthday sweetheart !
National Mill day
Gisteren hebben we 3 molens in ons dorp bezocht, het is namelijk nationale molendag dit weekend. Eerst gingen we naar Windmolen st. Joseph in Ospel waar tevens een expositie van keramiek te zien was.
Yesterday we went to see 3 mills in our village, because it is national mill day this weekend. First we went to see a windmill and there was also a exposition of ceramics.
Daarna gingen we naar korenmolen de Korenbloem in Ospel. De molen was in werking en ze waren bezig met het malen van mais.
Then we went to a corn mill de korenbloem (cornflower) and the mill was in woking.
Rondom de molen stond het vol met korenbloemen en papavers wat een erg mooi gezicht was.
Outside the mill there where a lot of cornflowers and papavers and that was a very nice view.
Daarna gingen we naar Olieslagmolen de Windlust in Nederweert. Deze molen wordt gebruikt voor het winnen van olie uit zaden en pitten, oa. uit lijnzaad.
Then we went to see a mill who does win oil from seeds, such as line seed.
Deze molen was ook in gebruik en de molenstenen vermorzelden het lijnzaad.
This mill was working and the millstones where crushing the line seed.
Vanuit de molen had je een mooi uitzicht over het land.
From inside the mill you had a beautiful view over the land.
