Advent day 7

Voordat de kerstbal geïntroduceerd werd, hing men papieren slingers, appels en figuurtjes in de boom. Dankzij de opkomst van de glasblazerij in Oost-Europa in de negentiende eeuw kwam hier verandering in. In 1831 blies glasblazer Linder uit de Vogezen de eerste glazen kerstbal. In die tijd werden er voornamelijk appels gebruikt als decoratie in de Vogezen, maar door grote droogte die winter waren appels en noten een schaarste. De glasblazer besloot een grote kraal te blazen. De inspiratiebron hiervoor was waarschijnlijk de oudere heksenbal. De kerstbal was geboren. Zijn idee veroverde vervolgens de wereld.

Before the Christmas bauble was introduced, paper garlands, apples and figurines were hung in the tree. Thanks to the rise of glass making in Eastern Europe in the nineteenth century, this changed. In 1831, glassblower Linder from the Vosges blew the first glass Christmas bauble. At the time, apples were mainly used as decoration in the Vosges, but due to great drought that winter, apples and nuts were a scarcity. The glassblower decided to blow a large bead. Advent day 6 and Happy news

Elk jaar worden er heel veel kerstkaarten verstuurd. Wij zelf versturen er al jaren geen meer, maar maken in plaats daarvan een bedrag over naar KiKa (Stichting Kinderen Kankervrij), het is een Nederlandse stichting die sinds 2002 fondsen werft voor onderzoek naar kinderkanker.

Many Christmas cards are sent every year. We have not been sending any more for years, but instead transfer an amount to the Foundation KiKa (Dutch: Stichting Kinderen Kankervrij; English: Children Cancer-free Foundation), it is a Dutch charity foundation that brings in fundings solely for research to childhood cancers.

Eindelijk mag ik het zeggen !
Er is een 2e kleinkind op komst. Zoon Niels en schoondochter Irene zijn ook zwanger. Bij hen wordt de baby eind mei verwacht. Dat betekend in 5 maanden tijd 2x oma worden.
Kleinkind 1 wordt rond 24 december verwacht. Wat een feest !!!

Finally I can say it!
A second grandchild is coming. Son Niels and daughter-in-law Irene are also pregnant. The baby is expected at the end of May. That means becoming a grandmother twice in 5 months.
Grandchild 1 is expected around December 24. I'm so happy !!!

Veel vogels die we in de zomer hier aan treffen zien we 's winters niet. Vogeltrek is de jaarlijkse seizoensgebonden migratie die veel vogels ondernemen. Hierbij broeden ze op de ene plek en overwinteren op een andere plek.

Many birds we see in the summer, we don't see in the winter. Bird migration is the annual seasonal migration that many birds undertake. They breed in one place and hibernate in another.
