Advent day 5 and a bit about my rehabilitation

Gisteren zijn we, eigenlijk hoofdzakelijk Michiel, bezig geweest met wat kerstspullen neer te zetten. Niet echt heel veel want daar heb ik de energie nog niet voor. Kaarsen doen dan al heel veel om er sfeer in te brengen. Ik geniet altijd van de geur van de Yankee Candles. Onderaan het bericht een kleine update over mijn revalidatie.

Yesterday we, actually mainly Michiel, were busy putting down some Christmas stuff. Not really much because I don't have the energy for that yet. Candles do a lot to create atmosphere. I always enjoy the smell of the Yankee Candles. At the bottom of this post a small update about my rehabilitation.

Deel 2 van de Yuletide sokken. Dit patroontje heet Chimney stacks (schoorstenen), omdat het net stenen van een schoorsteen zijn en de kerstman komt door de schoorsteen omlaag om cadeautjes onder de kerstboom te leggen.

Part 2 of the Yuletide socks. This pattern is called Chimney stacks, because it looks like the bricks of a chimney stack and Santa Claus comes down the chimney to put presents under the Christmas tree.

Hoe gaat het nu eigenlijk met de revalidatie? Op zich best goed, ik merk dat mijn linkerhand sterker wordt. Het zal nooit worden zoals het was, maar ik kan ermee breien en dingen vasthouden, zolang ze niet al te zwaar zijn.
Met de benen gaat het ook steeds beter, alleen als ze moe zijn dan sta ik niet meer vast op de benen. Dat is ook de reden waarom ik nog steeds niet kan fietsen. Ook langere stukjes lopen gaat nog steeds niet zonder rollator.
Het langdurig rechtop zitten zal een probleem blijven zoals ik al in een eerder bericht schreef, maar dat zal ook wel gaan wennen. Voor de revalidatie periode staat 1 jaar en alles wat binnen die tijd verbeterd, is meegenomen.
Dan mijn conditie, ik ben terug bij de longarts geweest en die is toch bang dat de corona vorig jaar mijn longen aangetast heeft. Dat is de reden waardoor ik steeds snel benauwd ben en helaas is tegen longcovid nog steeds geen pilletje. Het enige wat ik kan doen is oefenen, oefenen, oefenen. Gelukkig helpt mijn fysiotherapeut me daar bij.

How is the rehabilitation going now? Pretty good in itself, I notice that my left hand is getting stronger. It will never be the way it was, but I can knit with it and hold things as long as they aren't too heavy.
My legs are also getting better, only when they are tired then I am no longer stuck on my legs. That's also the reason why I still can't ride a bike. Walking longer distances is still not possible without a walker.
Sitting upright for a long time will remain a problem as I wrote in an earlier post, but that will also take some getting used to. The rehabilitation period is 1 year and everything that has improved within that time, is gain.
Then my condition, I went back to the pulmonologist and he is afraid that the corona affected my lungs last year. That is why I am always short of breath and unfortunately there is still no pill against lung covid. All I can do is practice, practice, practice. Fortunately, my physiotherapist helps me with that.

 

Advent day 4

Vandaag komen er 2 blogberichten omdat het een advent zondag is en met de kalenders voor advent zondagen heb ik een apart bericht geschreven. Vandaag gaan we ook ons kerstboompje opzetten, ik zeg bewust boompje omdat het net als vorig jaar weer een kleine is van tussen de 60 en 70 cm. Vanwege Mees kunnen we geen grote zetten, die sloopt de boom meteen.

Ook lees ik elke dag 3 of 4 bladzijden uit dit boek. Het bevat meerdere verhalen van Charles Dickens, maar het verhaal wat ik lees is het bekende A Christmas Carol.

I also read 3 or 4 pages of this book every day. It contains several stories by Charles Dickens, but the story I read is the well-known A Christmas Carol.

Second Advent Sunday

 Vandaag is het de 2e zondag van advent, dus we mogen het 2e kaarsje aansteken. Dit zijn de kalenders die alleen op de advent zondagen geopend worden.

Today is the 2nd Sunday of Advent, so we can light the 2nd candle. These are the calendars that are only opened on Advent Sundays.

De eerste is van Atelier Sopra, de kleur is prachtig en de mini streng is donkerrood die er heel mooi bij past.

The first one is from Atelier Sopra, the color is beautiful and the mini skein is dark red which goes very well with it.

De volgende is van Rosy Garn uit Duitsland. Deze uit de Neon Rainbow kalender heeft veel geel en oranje met hier en daar paarse en roze spikkels, echt schitterend.

The next one is from Rosy Garn from Germany. This one from the Neon Rainbow calendar has a lot of yellow and orange with purple and pink speckles here and there, so beautiful.

Als derde is daar de kalender van Nicole C. Mendez. De kleur van de zelfstrepende streng heet Christmas Ornaments.

Third is Nicole C. Mendez's calendar. The color of the self-striping skein is called Christmas Ornaments.

De 4e en tevens laatste van de advent zondagen kalenders is die van The Happy Kiwi Stitchmarkers. Het kerstthema is: t'was the night before Christmas. Vandaag zat er deze super leuke muis in die hulstblaadjes vast heeft.

Advent day 3

Vanmorgen al op tijd de kalenders geopend en toch is het weer middag voor ik tijd heb om mijn blog te schrijven. Eerst had ik een lijst opgesteld met allemaal breisters die vlogmas doen op youtube en ik heb 3 A4tjes vol. Elk jaar doen er meer mensen mee en het is zo leuk hun video's te kijken terwijl je zelf aan het breien bent. Onderaan dit blogbericht een lange lijst met hun youtube namen.

This morning I opened the calendars on time and yet it is noon again before I have time to write my blog. First I had made a list with all knitters who do vlogmas on youtube and I have 3 A4 pages full. Every year more people join and it's so much fun to watch their videos while you're knitting yourself. Advent day 2 and hopital check up

Vandaag 's avonds pas mijn blog kunnen schrijven. Vanmorgen zijn we eerst op controle geweest in het ziekenhuis van Maastricht (daarover meer aan het einde van dit bericht) en vanmiddag hadden we breimiddag in de bibliotheek.

Mijn deel 1 van de Yuletide sokken is ook af. Dit is het Fairy Light boordje. Het garen is Regia Premium - Merino Yak, kleur 7513.

Vanmorgen op controle geweest in het Maastricht ziekenhuis. De MRI besproken en het bleek dat die een iets vertekend beeld gaf vanwege het ijzerwerk wat geplaatst is naast de ruggenmerg. Zo op het eerste oog ziet het er goed uit. Bovenaan waar alles los gesneden was zat wel nog een dikke rand wit, maar volgens de radioloog (en de neurochirurg is het daar mee eens) is dat lidtekenweefsel. Dit zal elke maand minder worden.
Dus als ik in augustus 2023 terug kom voor mijn volgende MRI dan moet dit haast verdwenen zijn. Is dat niet het geval, dan blijkt dit toch een restant tumor te zijn, maar daar gaat hij niet van uit (lidtekenweefsel kleurt hetzelfde als een tumor met contrast bij een MRI). Direct langs de ruggenmerg zat wel nog een klein restantje, maar dat had hij me al verteld direct na de operatie. Dit wordt ook met regelmatige controles in de gaten gehouden.
Voor de rest moet ik een klein tandje minder doen bij de fysio, omdat de spieren bovenaan toch erg hard waren (geirriteerd). Dit komt door de meer intensieve oefeningen.
Het langdurig rechtop zitten zal altijd een probleempje blijven zei hij, omdat mijn spieren zich niet meer zo goed kunnen hechten, want de aanhechtingspunten zijn weg. Die hebben ze weg moeten halen om er goed bij te kunnen. We gaan binnenkort dan ook een relaxstoel kopen, zodat ik iets achterover kan zitten als ik teveel last krijg van nek en schouders.

This morning I had a check-up at the Maastricht hospital. We discussed the MRI and it turned out that it gave a slightly distorted picture because of the ironwork that is placed next to the spinal cord. At first glance it looks good. At the top where everything had been cut loose, there was still a thick white rim, but according to the radiologist (and the neurosurgeon agrees) that is scar tissue. This will decrease by every month.
So when I come back in August 2023 for my next MRI this should be almost gone. If that is not the case, then this turns out to be a remnant tumor, but he does not assume that (scar tissue colors the same as a tumor with contrast on an MRI). There was still a small remnant directly along the spinal cord, but he had already told me that immediately after the operation. This will be also monitored with regular checks.
For the rest I have to do a little less at the physio because the muscles at the top were still very hard (irritated). This is due to the more intensive exercises.
Sitting upright for a long time will always be a problem, he said, because my muscles can no longer attach so well, because the attachment points are gone. They had to remove it to get to the tumor. We will soon buy a relaxing chair, so that I can sit back a bit if my neck and shoulders start to bother me too much.

 

Advent day 1

Het is vandaag de eerste dag van december en dat betekent ... advent kalenders openen.

We start with The Woolly Chicken calendar with the theme Garden Year. She chose 2 flowers/plants from each month and took them as inspiration to dye a mini skein. They are 24 x 20 gram skeins (75% merino - 25% polyamide, 80m/20gr). Today Bare Banches

Deze kalender is van BadCattoo Yarn & Wat Wollie die samen weer de strengetjes hebben geverfd. Ieder 12 stuks, zodat je in totaal 24 strengetjes krijgt van 20 gram (75% merino - 25% polyamide, 85m/20gr). Het thema is Most Wanted Yarn Christmas. We beginnen met een wolletje van Wat Wollie

Voor het eerst heb ik deel genomen aan een swap, de Dutch Advent Swap 2022. Je maakt dan een advent kalender voor iemand (in mijn geval Rachel Beers) en je krijgt van een ander een advent kalender terug (ik kreeg hem van Ellen Dorrestijn). Het moesten 25 pakjes zijn, 20 met een sokkenwolletje van 10 gram en 5 andere kleine cadeautjes.

For the first time I participated in a swap, the Dutch Advent Swap 2022. You then make an advent calendar for someone (in my case Rachel Beers) and you receive an advent calendar from someone else (I got it from Ellen Dorrestijn). It had to be 25 packages, 20 with a 10 gram sock wool and 5 other small gifts.

Dit is een Stoffige wollige adventskalender die ik kreeg van mijn internet vriendin. Ik ben razend benieuwd wat er allemaal in zit. Ik op mijn beurt had er haar ook een gemaakt. Je zou dus kunnen zeggen dat dit ook een soort van swap is. Vandaag dit mooie sok wolletje.

This is a fabric woolly advent calendar that I got from my internet girlfriend. I'm very curious what's in it. I made one for her too. So you could say that this is also a kind of swap. Today this beautiful sock wool.

Na de wolletjes gaan we door met de quiltstofjes. Op mijn verzoek had Ingrid aka Supergoof mij een adventskalender gemaakt met 24 x 1/2 FQ. Zo spannend om te zien welke stofjes er allemaal tevoorschijn komen. Ze maakt er wel een feestje van, want in elk van de 4 zakken zitten weer 6 mooie verpakte lapjes.

After the yarn we continue with the quilting fabrics. At my request, Ingrid aka Supergoof made me an advent calendar with 24 x 1/2 FQ. Very exciting to see which fabrics she put in the calendar. She makes a party of it, because in each of the 4 bags there are 6 beautifully wrapped fabrics.
